1 TITAN TIMES RSMS NEWS May 21, 2018 All library books are past due. RSMS will have an 8th grade graduation dance. The dance on Monday, May 21, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. for our graduating 8th graders. Pizza, drinks and cake will be served to celebrate their upcoming graduation on Friday. Parents will need to be here by 5:30 p.m. to pick up their students. There will NOT be a cake and drinks reception after the graduation program on Friday. This event is a free event and it is for 8 th grade students only. What a year we have had at RSMS! We are so excited to be graduating two communities of wonderful eighth-grade students on May 25, 2018! As you will see below, the graduations have been divided into two sessions. Because we want to give each graduating community the same respect and consideration that these students deserve, it will be necessary for our band students to be available to perform at both the 10:00 and the 12:30 ceremonies. We appreciate your understanding of this. Thank you in advance for allowing your student to be part of this special event for our eighth graders. RSMS will have Awards and Graduation Ceremonies on Friday, May 25. We will celebrate in separate sessions: The following are schedules for graduation and awards ceremonies: May 25 Endeavor Community 8:50 9:30 Cafeteria Awards Exploration Community 10:00 Gym Graduation and Awards Innovation Community 12:30 Gym Graduation and Awards Transformation Community 2:00 Cafeteria Awards If your student has medications at school, these must be picked up before the last day of school. School personnel will be available during the awards and graduation ceremonies to sign these out to the parent. Students will not be able to pick up medications to bring home with them. Medications that are left will be disposed of after the last day of school. Parents may sign out students after awards and/or graduation ceremony; however, it will be counted as an unexcused absence for attendance purposes. The PTSA Perfect Attendance laptop drawings will not take place until the end of the day and students must be present at school to win! Students will NOT be released early on this day to anyone who is not already on their pick-up list. There will be no phone calls or s to arrange this. Titan Transition Camp for Incoming 6 th Graders Royal Spring Middle School Wednesday, August 1, :00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. We encourage all incoming 6 th grade students to attend Titan Transition Camp! This will not be a drop-in event. Please read the following information carefully. Transition Camp for the students will take place from 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. (drop off will begin at 12:30 p.m.), parents should plan to arrive before 3:30 p.m. and be seated in the gym bleachers for an informational talk by the principal from 3:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. At that time, parents and students will reunite and may visit teacher classrooms together from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Transition Camp gives your student an in-depth look at what they have in store as a new Titan. Only those students who live (or will be living) in the RSMS school district, or those students who have received an acceptance letter as an open enrollee for the school year, should be in attendance.

2 Safe Sitter Babysitting Classes are being offered this summer at Georgetown Hospital for students ages The 6-hour class takes place on June 9. There are only 16 spots available. Kroger Rewards Cards This is a super easy, no cost way to donate money to Royal Spring just by doing what you do every week GROCERY SHOP! If you shop at Kroger and have not signed up to support the Community Rewards Program, please do so! It costs nothing and does not affect savings or gas points, but is a huge support for our school. Our organization number is Community Rewards sign up information is located on the Kroger website at under the Community Tab. Box Tops and Tyson A+ Labels This is another easy (no additional cost) way to support Royal Spring! Simply clip Box Tops and Tyson A+ labels, throw them in a Ziploc sandwich bag with their PEACE teacher s name on it and send them in to school with your student. Every unexpired Box Top is worth.10 and every Tyson A+ label is worth.25. This adds up very quickly! We have a PEACE class competition every 9 weeks to see which class turns in the most labels. That class gets a 7 th hour party either popcorn, ice cream, pizza, hot chocolate and donuts, etc. Help your student s class win a party and help their school purchase much needed computers and other technology by clipping and sending in your labels. Dresses, skirts, and tunic tops worn with opaque leggings, jeggings, and yoga pants, need to be dollar bill length, turned long ways from the bend at the back of the knee, all the way around. Leggings are only allowed to be worn in this fashion (with a dress, skirt, or tunic over them following the dollar bill rule). 7. Jeans cannot have any holes, rips, or frays in them. 8. Sweatpants, joggers, and wind pants are allowed. 9. No clothing with inappropriate pictures, language, suggestive messages, innuendos, obscenities, excessive blood/gore, advertisements related to drugs/alcohol/tobacco, or gang emblems. 10. No head coverings to include: caps, hats, beanies, bandannas, headscarves, combs, rakes, rags, picks, sweat bands, or rollers. 11. No house shoes or slippers. 12. No chains or other jewelry items that may be perceived as dangerous or as a weapon. Heavy coats, book bags, backpacks, pouches, purses, fanny packs, lunch bags, etc., must be stored in the student s locker during the school day. If any type of clothing worn in the building leads to confusion or misunderstanding, the administration will make the final decision as to the clothing s appropriateness. Interventions and assistance will be given to help students reach compliance. Disciplinary action will be taken for repeated issues of non-compliance/defiance.

4 If you have any questions about the dress code or the appropriateness of a particular article of clothing, please reach out to the front office ( ) in order to be connected to an administrator. For Physical Education Classes: Shirts must meet the same dress code as above. Athletic shorts need to be dollar bill length, turned long ways from the bend at the back of the knee, all the way around. Disciplinary Procedures: In any situation regarding dress code, the school administration will make the final decision as to the appropriateness of the clothing. Disciplinary action will be taken for repeated issues and/or noncompliance/defiance. Students who are out of dress code will call home with an administrator to request that a change of clothes be brought to school. If a change is unable to be provided, the Youth Service Center may assist the student by providing a change of clothes. Multiple dress code violations will result in a discipline referral. Students out of dress code may not return to class until they are in approved clothing. Attention car riders: Students should not be getting out of the car in an area other than the drop-off line. This includes the parking lot. Additionally, students may not exit the building at dismissal to walk out into the parking lot without a parent. This is not a safe area at this time. Our school doors open at 8:10. If you are not part of our early morning program, a parent should not drop you off until 8:10 or after. Please do not get out of the car in the morning until teachers and staff are outside and the buses have started unloading. Important: Parents, we need you to know that students are not allowed to have any medicines (other than emergency medications) on their person. So, they may not have even common medications like Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, allergy medications, medicated creams or cough drops. Having said that, if the student has an ongoing illness, the parent may fill out paperwork at school and bring a new, unopened container of medication to be administered by our nurse. According to our Scott County Discipline Code, medication violations may be subject to disciplinary action; including, but not limited to suspension or expulsion. FOUND Earring, ear buds, watch/fit bit, ring, necklace, key, glasses DATES TO KNOW May 22 Election Day, no school for students 23 Field Day 25 Last day of school for students, 8 th Grade Graduation June 11 SBDM meeting, 4:00 p.m. ECOMMUNICATIONS

5 If you know of TITAN FAMILY MEMBERS who have not signed up for our school ECOMMUNICATIONS on please direct them there so they can receive our information each day. The Titan Times can also be viewed on our school website: with newest information highlighted. To access: go to the school site and click the link on the right-hand side of the menu under Student Resources. ATTENDANCE As stated in our agenda, Students are considered tardy if they do not arrive in their PEACE class by 8:30 a.m. or if they leave school earlier than 3:25. The regular school calendar allows students to be off during the summer months as well as holidays, fall break, spring break, Christmas break and teacher professional days. Therefore, absences for family vacations when school is in session will be recorded as unexcused. Since classroom time is a high correlate for learning, parents are strongly encouraged to plan vacations around the school calendar. Notes shall include phone numbers to assist attendance personnel in verifying information. All notes of excuse shall be turned into all appropriate person within five (5) school days of the student s return to school. If a note is not received within five (5) days after returning to school, the absence or tardy will be considered unexcused. The principal/designee shall determine whether the absence is excused. The following are valid reasons for an excused absence: Child was ill Death or severe illness in immediate family (covered by parent notes) Religious holiday Court appearance (please attach excuse) Kentucky State Fair (limited to one day per KRS) Departure of parent/guardian called to active military duty (military form required to be completed from school) Visitation with parent while on military duty stationed outside country (school form required to be completed) BUS PASSES If the student is riding the bus with another student, that student must be in our building and both students must bring a note from their parent, with the bus number on the note and the time this will be effective (one day, as needed, for school year, etc.). Bus passes should be brought to the office first thing in the morning. Other transportation changes must be made by 1:45 p.m. in order to guarantee delivery to the student. Oftentimes, due to temporary schedule changes, testing, rallies, etc., it is difficult to track down students. Taking care of these issues in advance makes our school day run much more smoothly. It is always our ultimate goal to get each and every student safely to their destination every day. Thank you for your help in making this happen. EARLY MORNING Did you know that a before-school, early-drop-off program is available for your use at RSMS? Students can be dropped off at school as early as 7:10 to play basketball, socialize, study or read. The cost for this program is $6.00 daily or $25.00 for the week, in addition to an annual registration fee. Additionally, these payments are taxdeductible on your itemized tax return. If you are interested in using this program for your student daily or as needed, please celeste.lehr@scott.kyschools.us for additional information.
