LVIVWOGD, OA LUSD STUDENT BOARD REPORT - October 13, 2015 To: From: Board of Education Lesly Vasquez, Student Board Representative Collese & Career On Wednesday, September 30th, Firebaugh AVID Junior and Senior classes went on a field trip to visit 3 campuses in one day - Cal State San Marcos, University of San Diego and Point Loma Nazarene University. Students learned about the campuses and had an opportunity to explore each one. Also on Wednesday,^ September 30th, MIT came to speak to the Seniors that are interested in Engineering. Then on Tuesdsay, October 6, representatives from UC San Diego visited and offered personal statement advice and information about the admission requirements. Princeton advisors will be helping our teachers on October 14th. They will be having a Letters Of Recommendation workshop so our staff can create outstanding recommendations. On October IS'1', Cal State Monterey Bay will be giving a presentation on the admission requirements, campus life, housing and what their college has to offer. Our College and Career advisor, Ms.Gordon, will be going to every senior English class starting October 16"' and will be making it mandatory for every student to apply or work on their Cal State applications. Activities & Events Falcons are showing their support in honor of Breast Cancer Fighters all around the world. For the month of October Falcons will be wearing pink every Wednesday to spread awareness. Also, the Button Club is selling buttons for $1 on Wednesday which they will be donating to St. Francis. On Tuesday, October 6th, 33 ASB members and 5 Link Crew members attended the Pasadena CADA Student Leadership Conference. Some workshops that our student leaders attended were: Creating A Campus of Culture- making everyone in our campus feel welcomed and wanted; and Student & Staff Recognition - new ways to appreciate our Falcon community and get them involved. The Childhood Cancer Awareness Club hosted a movie night on Friday, October 9"'. The money earned will be donated to a special hospital that specifically focuses on helping children with cancer. On October 14th, The Falcon Medics Club will be having students design and decorate a ribbon in honor of their loved ones who has or had breast cancer. Next week on October 19th to the 23rd, gus will be our Homecoming Spirit Week celebrating our WA Timeless Wonder" theme. Dress up days are: Dream Away to Wonderland, pajama day; Mad Tea Party Day, wear stripes or polkadots; Once Upon A Time, Disney related clothing; Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, twin day; and Jump Into the Colorful Hole, bright, colorful, and neon clothing. Our Homecoming football game versus Rio Hondo Prep is on Thursday, October 22"d at 7pm. And the dance is on Friday, October 23rd from 7 to 11pm. Sports On September 29th, our Frosh Girls Volleyball team lost to our cross town rivals, but our JV and Varsity Lady Falcons took the win against Lynwood High School. This week our Volleyball girls have two league games - one on October 13l!l, this afternoon, versus Mayfield and then on Thursday versus Polytechnic, both at 4:30pm. And finally, we would like to wish athfemmfchappy birthday to Mr. Marco Antonio Firebaugh. This concludes the Marco Antonio Firebaugh High School Board Report.

Lynwood, Ca Phone (310) Date: To: From: Regarding: Tuesday, October 13, 2015 Board of Education, Superintendent and Cabinet Paola Estrada, Student Board Representative Lynwood High School Student Report to the Board Good evening board President Mrs. Lopez, Board Members, Superintendent Mr. Gothold, District cabinet members, and Lynwood community. I am Paola Estrada, Lynwood High School's Student Board Representative. This is Lynwood High School's student board report for Tuesday, October 13 th: Telemundo - Lynwood High School sports and clubs were highlighted on television. At 4 AM on the morning of October, we had many clubs and sports teams show up to school and particiapte. It was a great turnout and our students had a fun time. CSU Workshops - Our counselors are holding CSU application workshop for all seniors to provide guidance through the application process. Workshops are being held through 12th grade English classes. Conference - UC Berkeley Black Recruitment is hosting a conference with workshops for students at Mount St. Mary's Academy in Inglewood. The Movement is sponsoring a field trip to the conference for our students this Saturday morning. Homecoming - Last week was another memorable Homecoming for our students and alumni. Many of our students dressed up for spirit week and had fun during our lunchtime activities. Friday, October 9th we had our Pep Assembly in the morning to get our students pumped up and excited for the day! After-school we had our annual Knight Rally on the quad. We had over 35 of our clubs and organizations participate selling food, playing games and dancing, even in the 100 degree weather. Our Homecoming game took place that evening against Gahr High School. We had an amazing halftime show. Many of our clubs participated in the float competition with some very creative and spirited floats. The "Knight of the Dragon" dance took place Saturday, OctoberlOth in the gym. We had the largest attendance we have had in a very long time. We also crowned our Homecoming Royalty: Baron - Adrian Franco and Baroness Anayely Molina Duke - Diego Gutierrez and Duchess - Hannah Preciado Prince - Hector Avena and Princess - Irene Molina King - Jacob Hernandez and Queen - Stephany Garcia Our students had a great Homecoming! Sports - Our fall sports have officially began playing league games. Football - Our football team played their first league match October 9th against Gahr. The next home game will be on October 23rd against long time rival, Dominguez High School Tennis - Girls Tennis beat Paramount for the first in ten years with a score of They will be played Warren HS today. Volleyball - Girls Volleyball also had a game today against Paramount High School. PSAT - All juniors will be taking PSAT tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14th. 4 Ms. Maribel Martinez, Principal lyk] UlStiFiED SCH Vista High School To: Board of Education, Superintendent and Cabinet From: Xian Pearson, Student Board Representative Date: October 13, 2015 Re: Board Report Good Evening Board President Maria Lopez and the board of education, Superintendent Mr. Gothold, Members of the Cabinet, and the Lynwood Community, my name is Xian Pearson, and I am the Student Board Representative and the ASB President for Vista High School. Vista High School hosted our annual back-to-school night Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 pm. We are proud to report we had over 200 parents/guardians attending the event. We were able to register approximately 80 parents online with Parent Portal allowing them an opportunity to view their students' attendance and grades via internet. Vista High School ASB Student Leadership Team attended the CADA conference on October 6th. The conference was an all-day event in Pasadena, California. Our team enjoyed attending the event as each student was able to attend various break-outsessions of trainings and activities. Several young ladies from Vista High School attended the Laser for Ladies Conference at the University of Southern California, Saturday October 10th. The conference was held to motivate more female students to enter the field of studies for engineering and science. Vista High School will be participating in the Great Shake-Out on October 15, Vista High School students will be completing the end of the 1st quarter, this Friday, October 16, We will have a minimum day schedule. Vista High School will be having its Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Assembly, October 21, The Assembly will 10:30 am. All Board Members and District Personnel are invited to attend. We encourage all that attend to show your support and wear pink October 21st. Vista High School will be celebrating Halloween with our Annual Door Decorating Contest the week of October 26-October 30, This concludes the Vista High School report. Jones, Principal October 13,2015 TO: Board of Education, Superintendent and Cabinet FROM: Elizabeth Zaragoza, ASB President SUBJECT: Student Board Report Board President Mrs. Lopez, Members of the Board of Education, Superintendent Paid Gothold, Lynwood Unified School District officials, fellow students, friends, and family members. Good evening. My name is Elizabeth Zaragoza, and I am the Associated Student Body President at Lynwood Community Adult School. On Thursday and Friday, September 24th and 25tl1, representatives from the Tri City Consortium (Lynwood, Paramount, and Compton) attended the AB86 Adult Education Regional Planning Summit that was held in Sacramento, California. The Summit brought together representatives from all 70 adult education regions as well as the State AB86 Work Group and Cabinet to engage in discussions on how to better serve the educational needs of adults in California. Great strides are being made by consortia throughout the State in drafting plans for adult education in their respective regions. The Adult School continues to recognize student achievement by hosting a Student of the Month luncheon on September 29th at the Atlantic Site. Students were given Certificates of Achievement, and photos were taken of them and will be framed in a special section of the Atlantic Site hallway. On Thursday, October 01, 2015, the Adult School hosted the annual Vocational Nurse graduation and capping/pinning ceremony. We are pleased to announce that twenty-one graduates were acknowledged for their fine achievements, and twenty new nursing students were given caps and pins to signify their entry into the program. This has been, and continues to be, one of the most popular and well attended events of the year as evidenced by the many positive comments that the Adult School VN department has received. Many friends and loved ones were in attendance to wish the graduates congratulations and best of luck in their future endeavors. The Adult School would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Gudiel Crosthwaite and Dr. Yesenia Fernandez for attending and offering their support to the Adult School VN program. In addition, it is noteworthy to mention that the VN NCLEX passing rate is 85%. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, October 12th, 13th, and 14th, the HiSET examination was administered at the Atlantic Site. The exam was administered in English as well as Spanish. Twenty-one people have registered to take the exam.
