2 Characteristics of the County and the Road Network Calumet County is a geographically small and metropolitan county on the northeastern shore of Lake Winnebago. About 72 the county lives in urban areas. Along with neighboring Outagamie County, the county is considered to be part of the Appleton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Some significant natural features in Calumet County include much of the eastern shores of Lake Winnebago, as well as the Killsnake and Manitowoc Rivers. US Highway (USH) 10 carries traffic between Appleton and Central Wisconsin and Manitowoc, and crosses through or bypasses Brillion, Harrison, Menasha and Appleton while crossing west to east through northern Calumet County. USH 151 crosses east to west through southern Calumet County, carrying traffic between Manitowoc and Fond du Lac. It crosses through Chilton and briefly runs parallel to the shore of Lake Winnebago. State Trunk Highways (STH) 32 and 57 run entirely concurrent south to north through central Calumet County, carrying traffic between the Green Bay area and Sheboygan County, crossing through or bypassing Kiel, New Holstein, Chilton and Hilbert while in the county. The southern terminus of STH 55 is north of US 151 in the Town of Brothertown. It travels north, carrying traffic between northeastern Wisconsin and Fond du Lac, crossing through or bypassing Stockbridge, Sherwood and Harrison while in Calumet County. STH 114 s terminus is also located in Calumet County, in Hilbert, and the highway travels northwest through the county, carrying traffic to Neenah and Menasha, while crossing through or bypassing Hilbert, Sherwood, Harrison and Menasha. STH 441 is a freeway that briefly cuts through the northwest corner of the county in the City of Appleton. There are 868 miles of roadway in the county, including 94 (10.8%) miles of state roads, 133 (15.3%) miles of county roads, and 641 (73.8%) miles of local roads. In 2015, there were 14,854 autos, 3,754 cycles, 3,624 trailers, and 24,562 trucks registered in Calumet County. Vehicle miles traveled (VMT) in 2015 was 394,963,945. Municipalities There are two municipalities in Calumet County with populations exceeding 10,000 residents: these are the City of Appleton and Village of Harrison, both of which are only partially located within the county. Other cities and villages within the county are the Cities of Chilton, New Holstein, Brillion, Menasha, Kiel and an unpopulated portion of Kaukauna, as well as the Villages of Sherwood, Hilbert, Stockbridge and Potter. When accounting for all incorporated municipalities in Calumet County, cities and villages account for 79 the county s population. The following table 1 includes 2015 population estimates for the municipalities within the county. 1 Source: Wisconsin Demographic Services Center

4 Emergency Medical Services Calumet County has one State Level IV trauma center in county lines, the Calumet Medical Center located in Chilton. The nearest level I or II Trauma Center in the State of Wisconsin is the ThedaCare Regional Medical Center located in Neenah, located 27 miles northwest of Chilton the county seat. The ThedaCare Regional Medical Center is a Level II trauma facility. The relative proximity of Calumet County residents to a level II trauma center within a 37 minute window increases the likelihood of the best possible outcomes from severe traffic accidents. It should also be noted that there are two other Level II trauma centers within an hour s drive of Chilton these are the Aurora BayCare Medical Center and St. Vincent Hospital, both located in Green Bay.
