1 Congratulations to the 70 students that were honored at the Breakfast of Champions for earning a spot on the Principal's List for the second quarter. All of these students earned a GPA of 95 or higher of the second quarter.

2 Juniors in all U.S. History classes celebrated Black History Month by creating a quilt recognizing the achievements of FONTBONNE FIRST AT SYMPOSIUM Fontbonne Hall Academy was one of only 4 Catholic high schools to participate in the New York City/Long Island Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at York College on Sunday, February 5th. Congratulations to our Semi-finalists, Emily Manti, Maria DiCarlo, Isabella Grillo, Keara Donahue, Alyssa Silvestri, Anette Tikkop, and Lauren Safford. Finalists will be announced in a few weeks. This is Fontbonne's first time participating in this event. DEDICATED PROJECT FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH

3 African Americans in the fields of Science/Technology, Civil Rights, Abolitionism, Athletics, Performing Arts and Military service. Each group of 3-4 students created a quilt piece containing four symbols that illustrate the accomplishments of each individual. An inclass presentation of the American hero will explain the symbols in greater depth. The quilt is now displayed in Ita Ford (below). SENIOR WINS AWARD FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP Alyssa Federico won $500 as a runner up in the Citi Foundation/ Network for Teaching Entrpreneurship sponsored "Make Your Job Challenge". The competition consisted of creating an original business idea and plan. Alyssa'a business idea, Theater Connect, is an app that pays your local movie theater to watch it's current releases on your electronic device. EDUCATION DOCUMENTARY INSPIRES STUDENTS The AP World History 10 and the Women in World Cultures classes along with chaperones Mrs. Caufield and Ms. Spiciarjic went to the Jewish Museum of

4 NYC to watch the documentary "He Named Me Malala". The documentary is about a Pakistani teenager who was shot in the head by the Taliban for speaking out for girls' education. The screening was followed by an educator led discussion about the film. The documentary is a part of the Jewish Museum's "Movies that Matter" which is a program specifically designed for high school film screenings. JUNIORS "SERVE LIKE MOTHER MARY" AT VISITATION Kirsa Danis and Veronica Gallo provided Community Service to the Sisters in the Saturday morning program called "Mornings with Mary". Their work was done in the Sacristy of the Sacred Heart Chapel. As assistants to the Sacristan, they prepared for Mass, setting up chalices, hosts, water and wine. They cleaned and polished the Sanctuary items, such as the altar and the candle tops. The work of their hands included sewing or mending the Priests' garments as well as selecting the vestments for the Mass. They learned how to purify the Sacred Vessels after the Mass and care for the items used on the altar. They finished by beautifully decorating the worship space with a crèche and flowers for all to enjoy. SWIM TEAM CELEBRATES SEASON We are proud of all our medalists from the Swim A Championships held at Eisenhower Aquatic Center. Fontbonne finished fifth overall in the team standings. Congratulations to all the members of our swim team for a great season! "IL CARNEVALE" COMES TO LIFE AP Italian, Italian 3 and Italian 2 students are displaying their projects

5 related to "Il Carnevale di Venezia". "Carnevale" is one of the biggest celebrations in Italy-and from Venetian masks to masquerade balls, no place is so colorful like Venice during this time of the year. Our students recreated this magical atmosphere throughout the school. FHA CELEBRATES WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY The courage, confidence and character gained through participation in sports are the very tools that will enable our young women at Fontbonne to become the leaders of tomorrow. We celebrated all the students, faculty and alumnae who have participated in sports and applauded their commitment to achieve their highest potential at home, at school, in the workplace and in retirement. SAC SPONSORS SUCCESSFUL CPR WEEK During CPR Week (Courtesy, Pride, and Respect), students showed their appreciation and respect for other members within our community. The week's events included a heartshaped lollipop sale, pink/red/white Accessory Day, Staff Appreciation Day, Administration Appreciation Day (left) and Student Appreciation Day. BASKETBALL SENIOR NIGHT We proudly honored eight of our

6 players on "Senior Night". Varsity defeated Sacred Heart (Long Island) as well as Cristo Rey Brooklyn to remain undefeated in league play going into the last week of the season. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY WOMEN'S WINTER WEAR DRIVE The Mother St. John Fontbonne Chapter of the National Honor Society recently ran a Women's Winter Wear Drive in which each FA collected socks, gloves, hats, and scarves to be donated to the Park Slope Women's Shelter. Thanks to all who participated. Special thanks to Ms. DeLuca's FA (FA 9) for bringing in the most items (104)!
