Learning Strategies-The Music of Learning Free Online Offerings via ACES Note: One STARLINK course allowed per phase of the Adjunct Faculty Certification Program. January The modality in which you present your ideas to an audience can make or break your viewers' absorption and engagement with the content. Designing a unique and captivating presentation will assist in the delivery and captivation of the viewers. In this online learning module, you'll explore various tools that can be used to create unique presentations and how to implement effective design techniques to assist you in creating a unique delivery of content. February We often focus on the content of our learning efforts -- the what. A less discussed topic is -- the how of learning. In this thought provoking discussion, Rodger Bennett and Ed Bowen will use the metaphor of music to present some "Bach to basics" learning strategies. With lively discussion and your participation, you will get to explore and develop new and meaningful learning paths for students and for yourself. Supporting Diverse Learners February In this learning module, you will learn about strategies for classroom teachers that will make your classroom a more welcoming and supportive environment for all learners. Overcoming the Achievement Gap often feels like something so big that classroom teachers can feel powerless. While major systemic change is needed, classroom teachers can use research-based strategies to increase the achievement and well-being of their diverse students; this module Evaluating Web Resources March In this learning module, we'll explore how to determine if a web resource is credible. We'll cover how to cross-check sources for accuracy, differentiate between fact and opinion, and determine whether a source is timely, objective, and may have a conflict of interest. We'll also cover plagiarism, how to spot fake and/or misleading information, and some tips for using search engines. Online Learning Strategies, Rubrics and Best Practices STARLINK presents a lively interview and workshop with Dr. Kaye Shelton, an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership in the Center for Doctoral Studies in the College of Education at Lamar University. Dr. Shelton will discuss the importance of quality in online learning. Dr. Shelton s research is focused on Quality Evaluation for Online Programs, Online Faculty Support, Online Faculty Professional Development, Online Course Design, Global Educational Leadership Competencies, and Online Student Satisfaction. Additionally, STARLINK interviews Dan Feinberg and shows highlights from his keynote address. What design components should a high-quality online or blended course have? How can instructional design and pedagogical best practices be applied to online courses for course review and improvement? Dan Feinberg, a Senior Instructional Designer and Senior Architect of the Open SUNY Course Quality Review (OSCQR) Rubric and Process, will discuss these questions and more. His keynote presentation titled, My Course Design Rubric Has A First Name: It s O-S-C-Q-R is sure to entertain. Evaluating Technology Resources With so many online resources and tools available, it can be very difficult to effectively filter and approve these as an administrator. What tools or resources are worth the money from your budget? Which are going to be most effective in improving instruction and student learning? How do you know what these resources provide? In this series we will look at strategies you can use to help effectively evaluate these resources and tools. We'll create checklists for you to use when teachers request these items to be purchased. We'll also look at the power of a Leadership Team approach to have discussions and brainstorming sessions to ensure you are making an informed decision. Building a Blog-Tech Integration Classroom Project The process for creating the example project using Google Blogger is described below. The Completed Project Movie shows what the finished product might look like. The tutorial movies that follow demonstrate, step-by-step, how to construct the blog site using the sample images and information provided in the downloadable resource packet. This project can be easily modified or adapted for other subject areas or other grade/skill levels. For a complete project description, including goals, objectives, and materials, see the Project Overview. April April May
