Chuck Horwitz, REDGHP We hope to see you at Springfield on 30 July for the annual convocation of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of the State of Illinois. If you have never attended the annual grand York Rite sessions, you don t know what you have been missing. The Grand Chapter, Grand Council and Grand Commandery each hold our respective annual meeting and install our newly elected officers. The Keystone Quest finalist chapters compete in the championship round, York Rite Masons from around the state gather for fellowship and comeraderie, and everyone makes the rounds of the various outstanding courtesy suites in both the Hilton and the Abraham Lincoln hotel across the street. As Holy Royal Arch Masons, we have had a most vibrant and exciting year. While the bulk of the credit goes to all of the active companions throughout the state who took part in the various events, we would be remiss if we did not recognise the fine leadership provided this year by our Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Companion Joseph H. Santisteban. MEGHP Joseph H. Joe Santisteban and his lady Kathy look forward to seeing you at Springfield. Joe travelled to pay official visits to chapters throughout the state, logging far more miles than so many of his predecessors. He strengthened our ties with other grand chapters, particularly Wisconsin, Michigan, Prince Hall Illinois, and the General Grand Chapter. I hope you will join me in showing our appreciation for Joe s tireless efforts, by attending the Grand Convocation. Chapters held fundraisers throughout the year, including barbecues and skeet shooting. Come to the Grand Convocation, and learn more about the important work that our charity funds to treat autism and autism spectrum disorders. I shall bring and display the Bible formerly owned by Brother Harry Houdini (née Ehrich Weiss), the legendary escape artist. The Hilton is located in the heart of downtown Springfield, a block from the Old State Capitol, Abraham Lincoln s law office museum, and the starting point of President-elect Lincoln s journey to the District of Columbia, the Donner Party s ill-fated trip to California, and President Obama s presidential campaign. Another block further is the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. Also close-by are the Illinois State Museum, the State Capitol complex, the Illinois Supreme Courthouse, the Korean War Museum, the Governor s Mansion, the Lincolns house, the restored train station, many other historical and cultural attractions, and plenty of eateries and drinkeries. A short ride away are impressive Illinois State Military Museum, Lincoln s tomb, and so much more. Room reservations can be made at or online at GYR /index.jhtml. The following pages contain a detailed schedule of events and a reservations form for the various meals.
