Starting Friday, May 25, sign up at LaramieCountyLibrary.org, or visit your library in Cheyenne, Burns, Pine Bluffs, or the Bookmobile. Set your own goal, then read or listen to any books that interest you and are suitable for your reading level. They can be items you own or that you ve checked out from the library. Once you ve met your goal and collected your prizes, set a new goal and read (rock on!) for a cause! For each additional goal you finish, a donation will be made by Union Wireless to the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra as they encourage students in music education. Chess Club for Kids Wednesdays: May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, 4 5pm A drop-in chess event for beginners and advanced chess players. Join us for weekly lessons with teachers Dennis Coelho and Alison Hounshell. (Grades K 6; 2nd Floor) Pokémon Jr. Thursdays: May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, 4 5pm Do you want to learn to play Pokémon TCG? It s that time of year again! The library has teamed up with Olympus Games & Comics to celebrate Free Comic Book Day in style. In addition to free comics, we will also have have crafts, games, snacks, costume contests, and for the first time, panel discussions! Panels start at 11:30am. (All Ages; Storytime, Windflower, Sage, Sunflower, Willow, and Cottonwood rooms) K-2 STEM Explorers: Dinosaurs Tuesday, May 8, 4:15 5:30pm Calling all junior paleontologists! Join us for a fun afternoon of dinosaur-related activities! (Grades K 2; Storytime Room) Brown Bag Book Club Thursdays: May 10, 24, 6 7pm Book club will meet twice during the month of May. We will review the first half of the book on the 10th and the second half on the 24th. Participants should bring a brown bag meal and desserts and drinks will be provided. We will be reading The Egypt Game. Quick book description: The first time Melanie Ross meets April Hall, she's not sure they'll have anything in common. But she soon discovers that they both love anything to do with ancient Egypt. When they stumble upon a deserted storage yard behind the A-Z Antiques and Curio Shop, Melanie and April decide it's the perfect spot for the Egypt Game. Before long there are six Egyptians instead of two. After school and on weekends they all meet to wear costumes, hold ceremonies, and work on their secret code. Come meet a couple of service dogs, and hear all about these animal helpers. Presented by K9s 4 Mobility, Inc. (Adults & Teens; Cottonwood Room) Just Surviving to Thriving: La Familia Primero Monday, May 7, 5:30 6:30pm As Latinos and Latinas we pride ourselves on having loving and strongly close-knit families. This workshop will focus on addressing the stigmas we have about mental health. You will gain tools for conversations about mental health and understand why it is important to build a strong support system. Guest speakers are Ann Esquibel Redman and Antonio Serrano. (Adults; Sunflower Room) Birding Without Borders: An Epic World Big Year Monday, May 14, 6:30 8pm In 2015, 30-year-old Noah Strycker saw 6,042 bird species in one year, a world record. Carrying only a backpack on his adventure, he was joined by enthusiastic local birders in 41 countries who helped him survive snafus while finding fantastic birds. Strycker s book, Birding Without Borders, and his humorous and inspiring presentation will increase your appreciation for the birds and birders of the world. (Adults; Cottonwood Room) Positive Aging: Black and White Friday, May 18, 1:30 4pm In Black and White, a grieving widower is drawn into a custody battle over his granddaughter, whom he helped raise her entire life. The movie brings up questions of race and prejudice. Enjoy free popcorn and a discussion afterward. This is our programming series especially geared toward adults with disabilities. Participate in a science experiment, work on a DIY project and build with LEGO s. (Adults; Cottonwood Room) COMPUTER HELP Library's Wildlife Habitat Open House Tuesday, May 22, 6 7pm Did you know the library is a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat? The library is working to create a welcoming haven for local wildlife such as bees, butterflies, birds and amphibians. Join us to learn more about the Library s Wildlife Habitat Project and how you can become a Habitat Helper. With his party questioning his every move, and King George VI skeptical of his new political leader, it is up to Churchill to lead his nation and protect them from the most dangerous threat ever seen.
