There are many exciting new programs and activities for all to enjoy. Be sure to register early! Be sure to drop in for our Senior Services Open House on Friday, September 30 th between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Today is your opportunity to learn all about Seniors Services. Come and participate in a program new to you and have a chance to speak to our instructors. Tours will be provided; view displays and door prizes to be won! Get Up, Get Out & Get Active! Brooke Dezell Programmer Assistant DAILY ACTIVITIES Snooker is played daily at our Centre. We would like to extend an invitation to new players to join us, who receive three free visits to become familiar with the snooker program. Play each week Monday to Friday between 10:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The cost is $7.00 per person/week. Please Note: Closed Monday, October 10 th, Friday, November 11 th. Wii Bowling will be played every Friday morning starting at 10:30 a.m. for a cost of $1.00 per visit. Club 119 Cards will be played every Tuesday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Play games of 500, Cribbage, Euchre and Bridge. The cost is $2.00 per person and a Club 119 Membership. A light snack is available. Newcomers welcome! Noon Lunch will be available every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during the month of September. The menu will include soup, choice of sandwich, dessert and coffee/tea. Cost is $6.00 for a full meal. Carpet Bowling will be played every Thursday afternoon starting at 1:30 p.m. Come and play two games each week. If you are a beginner we will teach you. The cost is $2.00 per visit. Light snack and refreshments available. Fun for all! Pickle Ball will be played every Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Cost is $2 per visit. 2 CRAFTY CORNER Regular Craft Classes Regular Craft Classes such as Open Painting, Knitting, Knifty Knitters, Crochet Club and Swedish Weaving will continue each week. The cost is $1.00 weekly fee. If you are interested in joining any of these classes drop into the Centre. Newcomers are welcome! Christmas Cheer Program Date: Wednesdays, September 7 th to December 14 th Time: 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. We invite all knitters to join our group every Wednesday morning. All items we knit are donated to our local Christmas Cheer depot in December. Yarn is supplied and everyone is welcome! Memory Wire Bracelet Date: Monday, September 12 th Time: 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cost: $15.00 includes kit Instructor: Tiana Pollari Join Tiana as she guides you with making this bracelet. There will be various colour choices to choose from that will please anyone s fashion statement. Traditional Hand Rug Hooking September 13 th and 27 th Time: 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Cost: $5.00 registration fee $2.00 bi-weekly fee plus kit cost Instructor: Betty Currie This is the ultimate craft for recycling wool, cloth and other fabrics. Make your project into a wall hanging, coaster or rug. If you are curious about this course and want to learn more about it, give us a call. Newcomers are welcome! Wanna Bee Quilters September 13 th to December 6 th Time: 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Cost: $2.00 per visit Duration: 13 weeks Join these ladies weekly to learn new quilting projects and patterns. This class is great for the beginner who wants to learn how to quilt. Painting Drawing with Soft Pastels Date: Mondays, September 19 th to October 31 st Time: 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. Cost: $63.00 plus supplies Instructor: Taimi Polmaa Using pastels and the step by step approach, you will create colourful drawings of nature, landscape and still life. You much know how to crochet! Photo/Scrap Booking Workshop Date: Tuesday, September 20 th Cost: $15.00 per session Consultant: Lanny Clark Join Lanny for a social day of photo/scrap booking. Cutting tools and pens are supplied. Lanny offers a session of learning at the beginning of each workshop. Please bring your own lunch and don t forget your pictures! Quilting Mystery Quilt Date: Wednesday, September 21 st and Thursday September 22 nd Cost: $10.00 plus supplies Duration: 2 consecutive days Instructor: Teri Major This quilt works well using jelly rolls or strips of material. Basic knowledge of quilting is required. Painting Watercolour with Pen /Ink with Taimi Date: Fridays, September 23 rd to October 28 th Time: 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Cost: $63.00 plus supplies Instructor: Taimi Poldmaa Learn the basics in painting with watercolours, techniques and application. You will learn step by step to create paintings of leaves, flowers, wood, rocks and landscape. Using pen and ink, define the work with line and ink strokes. Quilting Surprise Pinwheel Square Date: Friday, September 23 rd Cost: $7.00 plus supplies Instructor: Marie Anne Parker A great and easy beginner s project. Working with 2 1/2' strips of material this surprise pin wheel square can also be turned into a star square. Moccasin Style Slipper Docorated with Needle Felting September 27 th and October 4 th Time: 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cost: $20.00 includes supplies Duration: 2 weeks Instructor: Marion Rahrer Learn to make these comfy moccasin style slippers. Marion will then show you how the added feature of needle felting will help to complete this project. View all crafts on display in our front lobby!
3 Quilted Spiced Pumpkin Date: Wednesday, September 28 th Time: 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Date: Friday, October 7 th Cost: $12.00 plus supplies Duration: 2 days Instructor: Joan Davis Iona Bishop The pumpkins in this cheeky but charming wall hanging will grace your home from the first chilly days of autumn right through to the first flakes of winter. Fusible applique experience is an asset for this pattern. This course is an intermediate level quilting class. ACTIVE LIVING Darts September 6 th to December 13 th Time: 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Cost: $2.00 per visit For those persons who like to throw darts we invite you to join us each week. When you arrive we will divide up into teams. Fun for all! Newcomers are welcome to join. Please bring your own darts with you. Refreshments are available. Energy Healing 101 Date: Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 6 th to September 29 th Time: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Cost: $21.00 per person Duration: 4 weeks Instructor: Carla Pierman Deep breathing, light stretching, Yoga and Qigong Tai Chi practices are integrated to help activate the body s natural healing capabilities. A Beginner s class is required prior to entering into Line Dancing. Beginners Line Dance September 8 th to December 15 th Time: 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Cost: $25.00 per person Instructor: Joan Walls This class is designed for those persons who would like to learn how to line dance. Zumba Dance Date: Fridays, September 9 th to October 14 th Time: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Cost: $57.00 per person Instructor: Ildiko Horvath Zumba is a Latin inspired, easy to follow, calorie burning fitness program. Zumba borrows movement patterns from Latin and International dance, but these moves are simple, fun and accessible to everybody. Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms like salsa, meringue, cumbia and samba to create a one of a kind experience. Now is the time to join the Zumba craze everyone is talking about! A Form of Tai Chi Date: Mondays & Wednesdays, September 12 th to December 14 th Time: 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Cost: $2.00 per class Instructor: Donna Komhyr Jan Eskelin Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial arts form that has many variations. It is a set of 108 moves with some repeats of particular movements. It is good for improving balance, strength, endurance, memory and flexibility. This class starts with ½ hour of exercises and practicing some of the movements from the set. Please Note: Closed Monday, October 10 th (Thanksgiving).

Learn how to relax your body, improve inner energy and help circulate your blood more freely for self-healing. Join in the fun while you tone, strengthen and work out all while sitting in your chair. This exercise program is suitable for everyone! Please Note: No class October 20 th. HEALTHY LIFESTYLES Blood Pressure Clinic Date: Monday, September 12 th Time: 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. Our retired volunteer nurses will be available to take your blood pressure. We Care Home Health Services Diabetic Foot Care Clinics We Care offers advanced and diabetic foot care clinics once per month at the Senior Citizens Drop- In Centre. Please call to make an appointment. The cost of this service is $30.00 per person. The September clinic date is: Tuesday, September 20 th EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS Café Connect Date: Wednesday, September 7 th Time: 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Host: Connect Hearing Staying connected to the sounds you love is a great reason to get your hearing checked! Each clinical takes about 15 minutes and is your first step towards better hearing. Your results will be explained clearly by a friendly Hearing Care Professional who will take the time to answer any questions that might come up. Hear first-person stories from seniors about why they got screened. Learn more about the importance of cancer screening and get information about colon, breast, cervical and prostate cancer prevention. Rediscover your health because you matter to all of us! Meditation & Drumming Date: Wednesdays, September 14 th to October 19 th Time: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Cost: $25.00 per person Instructor: Bonnie Baranski The use of Chanting and Drumming in Meditation is an ancient form of self-care and stress release. This class will introduce you to Meditation using the breath as a calming tool, and repetitive sounds and vibrations of Chanting and Drumming. Join this group for a very relaxing morning. Tech Session Date: Wednesdays, September 14 th and 28 th Time: 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Bring your tablet or your laptop and have your questions answered by our instructor. Seniors are invited to share a favorite book, poem or movie that you have enjoyed. Newcomers are always welcome. Writing about Gifts and Gratitude Date: Thursday, September 29 th Time: 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Cost: $13.00 per person Instructor: Linda Zeppa Writing is a great way to allow the stories, thoughts, gifts and gratitude within each of us to flow out. This is not just for writers. No worries about spelling or grammar, just inspiration, fun and adventure. Marie and Algoma District so they can continue to provide much needed services. Come by our front lobby and purchase a coffee, doughnut or other snacks by donation. Harvesters Dinner & Dance Date: Monday, September 19 th Time: 5:30 to 10:00 p.m. Cost: $10.00 per person Menu: Pasta & Meatballs, Salad and Dessert.
