PROFESSOR STREET Students may begin checking-in today at the Office of Residential Education and Dining Services and pick up your Oberlin College ID card. 8:00 p.m. Artist Recital Series: Joshua Bell, violin and Jeremy Denk, piano FINNEY CHAPEL, 90 N. PROFESSOR STREET Joshua Bell has captured the public s attention like no other classical violinist of his time. For over two decades, Joshua Bell has enchanted audiences worldwide with his breathtaking playing and tone of rare opulence. He came to national attention at the age of 14 in a highly acclaimed orchestral debut with Riccardo Muti and the Philadelphia Orchestra. A Carnegie Hall debut, the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, and a recording contract further confirmed his presence in the music world. Staff from the Office of the Registrar will be at this session and will distribute an orientation packet that provides information about your academic advisor and the time and location of your advising appointment. You will have an opportunity to meet with the Transfer of Credit specialist, review your Oberlin transcript, and determine what credits have been transferred or may transfer to Oberlin. 2:00-3:00 p.m. Advising Session (REQUIRED) PETERS HALL, ROOM 212, 50 N. PROFESSOR STREET This session, presented by the Office of the Dean of Studies, will provide an overview of Oberlin s degree requirements and academic policies. 3:30-5:00 p.m. Academic Advising Appointments (REQUIRED) FACULTY OFFICES Meet individually with your academic advisor. 6 PLACEMENT/EXEMPTION EXAMS Students interested in placement/exemption exams should contact the relevant department as soon as possible: Biology Jane Bennett, lecturer in biology, Any student wishing to be exempted from taking Biology 100 and/or 102 may take this test. A score of 5 on the AP Biology Test or a 6 on the IB exam will also exempt a student from taking these courses. Please note that BIOL 100 and 102 are appropriate and helpful for students who plan to take the MCAT or similar proficiency exams. Students who foresee taking such exams should take (or minimally audit) these courses. The test may be taken at 1:30 p.m. on February 5 in room A137, Science Center, 119 Woodland Street. French, Spanish, German, Russian, Japanese Students may take placement exams for these languages on any networked computer beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, February 8 until 5:00 p.m. on February 17. Please allow for a 24-hour turn around on all placement exam results.
