6 About MACJE... The Massachusetts Association of Criminal Justice Education (MACJE) was established in 2010 and is the only statewide organization dedicated to the unique professional and advocacy concerns of criminal justice practitioners, criminal justice researchers, educators, human service and social service professionals who work with those impacted by crime and the criminal justice system and students in criminal justice and related fields. While President of the NEACJS, a dream of Pat Faiella from Massasoit Community College was to establish a statewide organization for Massachusetts. The inaugural conference at MCC helped to build interest and establish the organization. MACJE holds conferences, general membership meetings, regional roundtables and offers training opportunities. The mission of MACJE is to foster collegiality, collaboration, sharing and advancement of criminal justice education and practice through advocacy, education, leadership, research, training and practice in criminal justice and related fields. MACJE fosters cooperation and the exchange of information and experience among practitioners and educators, as well as sharing between criminal justice students across Massachusetts. The mission of MACJE is to enable its membership to provide an informed, powerful, cohesive voice to influence state legislation, policies and funding and to provide opportunities for professional support, collegiality and strategic leadership for the continuous improvement of criminal justice education and practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The functions of MACJE shall be to: Develop collaborative relationships with educators, practitioners and students in criminal justice and related fields to explore common interests; Promote the diversity of criminal justice educators, practitioners and students and the communities in which they live and practice. Initiate, influence and advocate for legislation and public policy consistent with the mission of MACJE; Provide for quality in criminal justice practice and education by promoting high standards of knowledge in criminal justice and related fields, ethics, integrity, community interaction and professional conduct; Encourage development of criminal justice knowledge and practices through research and evidence based practices in criminal justice and related fields; Develop and advocate for initiatives that support the continuing education and professional development of educators and practitioners in criminal justice and related fields.
