1 VETERANS PARK RECREATION CENTER 55 Homestead Road South Lehigh Acres, FL MAY 2018 WELCOME TO VETERANS PARK RECREATION CENTER! 4-H VEGHEADS Monday, 5/21 Class size limited to ten participants. Club Leader, Karen Harty, is a Lee County Master Gardener and offers edible gardening education to youths 8-18 years of age. 4-H membership required. Any questions Contact Karen CENTER HOURS Monday-Thursday 7 a.m.-9 p.m. / Friday 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday & Sunday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. All Lee County recreation centers are open to the public. The center amenities include a fully equipped gymnasium with basketball and volleyball courts, a fitness center with locker room facilities, a game room and several large multi-purpose rooms for meetings and classes. Lifetime membership rates are $10 for individuals and $25 for a family. A $5 day pass is available for visitors. Members are issued a member ID card to be presented at the main entrance to access the recreation center amenities. All members may enjoy the gymnasium and game room during available hours. Registration fees may apply to participate in some classes and programs. There is a monthly fee to access the weight room. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult, unless registered to participate in a supervised program or instructor-led class. Membership is valid at all Lee County recreation center locations: North Fort Myers Recreation Center, Veterans Park Recreation Center, Wa-Ke Hatchee Recreation Center and Estero Recreation Center. FITNESS CENTER / WEIGHT ROOM The Weight Room and Locker Rooms will remain open until 15 minutes prior to closing. Members years old can use the Weight Room as part of a wellness program or if accompanied by an adult. Teen Camp # Ages There is no need for your teen to be bored all summer. Teen Camp offers a variety of weekly themes in order to provide the teens with a focus on a particular topic. Activities will be tied to the theme and will include indoor and outdoor activities, games, adventures, swimming, field trips and more.

Negative space, in art, is the space around and between the subject(s) of an image. Negative space may be most evident when the space around a subject, not the subject itself, forms an interesting or artistically relevant shape, and such space occasionally is used to artistic effect as the "real" subject of an image. Hands-on class in Negative Space Art. All materials will be supplied by the instructor. The instructor, June DeVincient, has years of experience to pass on. 8 BUCKINGHAM ARMY AIR FIELD Guided history walk Friday, May 4, 8-10 am Location: Buckingham Trails Preserve 8790 Buckingham Rd., Fort Myers Nearly 50,000 acres in Lee County were once used as part of the Buckingham Army Air Field Flexible Gunnery School during World War II. Military recruits were trained as turret gunners assigned to bomber planes flying over the European and Pacific Theaters. Some remnants of the air field remain today, including structures at this Conservation 20/20 preserve. These include the remains of skeet trap ranges and a berm that once served as part of the Seabord Air Line Railroad, which delivered military supplies and goods to the base. This 2-mile roundtrip hike will be led by historians Jim Zbick and Ted Mikita with the Southwest Florida Military Museum & Library. Please wear closed-toed shoes appropriate for hiking. The trail is not ADA-accessible. Suggested items to bring include water, hat, sunscreen and a camera. This is a free guided walk. Reservations are required in advance. Space is limited. Please call
