1 2011 Mid-Year Meeting TRB COMMITTEE AFB20 Workshop on Roadway Departure Crashes: Bridging the Gap Between Testing and Real World Performance and Joint Meeting with AASHTO/AGC/ARTBA Task Force 13 May 22-25, 2011 Cleveland, Ohio WORKSHOP OBJECTIVE Considerable effort is expended in developing, analyzing, and crash testing roadside configurations and hardware that is placed along state highways, county roads, and city streets. However, there are many roadway departure crash types, where this effort may not be meeting the user s needs. In addition, there are many situations where the optimum installation of hardware may not be practical due to cost and rightof-way constraints. This workshop will explore situations where there is a gap between the user needs and the current state of the art and will identify research opportunities to close this gap.
