2 Kid & Tween Programs livoniapubliclibrary.org/kids STORYTIME PROGRAMS Children s storytime and music programs are open to all children. All children younger than three years old must be accompanied by an adult (one child per adult), unless otherwise specified. Space is limited so register early! Registration begins Monday, October 23. Register for storytimes in person or by phone. BABY STORYTIME* Ages 12 to 23 months with parent or loving caregiver. Songs, simple stories, and other activities that introduce our youngest patrons to the pleasures of the library. Registration required. 3 MERRY & BRIGHT: HOLIDAY PARADE AND TREE LIGHTING All ages welcome. New this year! Holiday Celebration Parade Santa Claus Comes to Town! Join us along the parade route (Stark to Lyndon to Farmington to City Hall) ending at City Hall where Mayor Wright and the December is Special to Me contest winners will join Santa and Mrs. Clause to light the City s Tree. After the tree lighting, stroll over to the Robert and Janet Bennett Civic Center Library for crafts, refreshments, and a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Co-sponsored with Livonia Community Foundation, Livonia Rotary Club, Livonia Libraries, Livonia Civic Chorus, and Busch s Fresh Food Market in Livonia. Bring your favorite book and practice your reading skills with Max, our certified therapy dog (he is a very good listener!). Registration required. We ll also be planning activities with the Pokémon GO! App. Everyone ages 7 to 17 is welcome, from those just starting to collect to those who compete in a league. Tuesday, December 5 5:30 p.m BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN* It s easy to participate in this FREE program which encourages parents to read 1,000 books with their Preschoolers. Mark off the books you have read on your reading log. When you reach 100, show us your log to receive your prize and your new reading log. As children reach their milestones, their names will be displayed in the Livonia Public Libraries on our walls of fame. Come in and sign up today! You will get your log when you register, or you can download the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten iphone App. *Registration required. 4 Teen Programs COFFEE AND COLORING Relax and enjoy a free cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or tea while coloring a page or two from an adult coloring book. Supplies provided, but feel free to bring your own. Adults welcome, too. Tuesdays, November 7 and December 5 6:30-8 p.m. TEEN ADVISORY COMMITTEE Join our Teen Advisory Committee and offer input to Teen Service Librarians on our Teen collections and programs. Enjoy snacks, meet other like-minded Teens, gain valuable organizational experience and leadership skills, and fulfill various community service obligations. Interested Teens can come to our meetings at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month in the Civic Center Branch meeting rooms. Volunteer credits available. Did you know the library has its own Harry Potter Club that meets every Thursday to enjoy crafts, activities, and trivia about Harry Potter? Come and get sorted to sit with your house. This semester we'll be playing Quidditch, making crafts (Eragog spider craft, pumpkin decorating, potions), playing games (Would You Rather?, Death Eaters vs. Dumbledore's Army, Escape Room), and discussing all things Harry Potter with trivia, fan creations, and more! Attorney, CPA, and finance columnist Rick Bloom from Bloom Asset Management will discuss ways you can organize your finances properly. SCIENCE SPECTACLES PRESENTS SALUTE TO SATURN: COMMEMORATING THE CASSINI MISSION Join EMU physics instructor Jesse Mason in toasting the much-celebrated Cassini Space Probe with a guided tour of images from its two-decade long mission to the ringed giant, Saturn. After the presentation, weather permitting, there will be an opportunity to look through a telescope at the night sky. Thursday, November 9 7 p.m. HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY, NOBLE LIBRARY! Tuesdays, November 14 and 28 and December p.m. BREWED IN MICHIGAN Local author Bill Rapai will be discussing his new book, Brewed in Michigan. Beer has become a part of Michigan s identity. In 2016, Michigan ranked fifth in the nation in the number of craft breweries, and tenth in the nation in craft beer production. Craft brewing now contributes more than $1.8 billion annually to the state s economy, and is helping to revive declining cities and invigorate neighborhoods. Due to licensing restrictions, no beer will be served. Signed books will be available for purchase. Tuesday, November 28 7 p.m. WINE GLASS SNOW GLOBES* These winter-themed snow globes are easy, yet elegant, and make perfect centerpieces for your holiday table. 8 Noontime Concert Series Join us every month for a special concert that will entertain audiences of all ages. All concerts take place in the Civic Center Library Atrium, begin at 12:15 p.m., and are free to attend. Bring your brown bag lunch with you and enjoy the show.
