Green...jgreen8@uw.edu PAC Liz Beadle... lbeadle@pac-12.org UTAH VOTED PRESEASON FAVORITE IN PAC-12 COACHES POLL SAN FRANCISCO In a poll taken by the Conference s eight women s gymnastics, UTAH was voted the preseason favorite to win the 2016 Pac-12 regular season, the Conference announced today. Utah received 49 points and six first-place votes. The Utes were also voted fourth in the national preseason coaches poll where they received 14 first-place votes. Utah holds the top spot in the preseason Pac-12 coaches poll for the second year in a row after UCLA had dominated the No. 1 spot for three years before that. This season, Utah will be looking to capture its third Pac-12 championship in a row, following their back-to-back championship seasons in 2014 and UCLA came in second in the Pac-12 poll, tallying 41 points. Additionally, the Bruins are ranked sixth in the national preseason coaches poll. STANFORD sits in third place in the Pac-12 with Pac-12 Women s points in the poll, and received one first-place vote. The Gymnastics Poll Cardinal are one of three Pac-12 squads ranked in the national top ten, coming in at No. 8. OREGON STATE came in fourth place in the Pac-12 coaches poll with 30 points. Rounding out the poll were CALIFORNIA, ARIZONA, WASHINGTON, and ARIZONA STATE with 24, 21, 13, and 7 points respectively. 1. Utah (6) UCLA Stanford (1) Oregon Sate California Arizona Washington Arizona State... 7 Six of eight Pac-12 teams are ranked in the top 25 nationally heading into the 2016 season. No. 12 Oregon State and No. 14 California join Utah, UCLA, and Stanford in the top 15. Arizona, Washington, and Arizona State are ranked 18th, 30th, and 36th respectively. The 2016 season is set to begin on Friday, Jan. 8. Pac-12 gymnastics will be featured on Pac- 12 Networks throughout the season, including the 2016 Pac-12 Championship to take place on March 19, 2016 in Seattle. 3 WOMEN S GYMNASTICS ON PAC-12 NETWORKS Pac-12 Networks began its fourth season of women s gymnastics coverage on Friday, January 8. Pac-12 Networks will air 26 women s gymnastics meets, five more than last season. Each Pac-12 program will appear on the Networks at least four times: Arizona (6), Arizona State (5), California (5), Oregon State (7), Stanford (4), UCLA (10), Utah (9) and Washington (5). Both sessions of the 2016 Pac-12 Women s Gymnastics Championships will also be part of the Networks telecast schedule on Saturday, March 19 from Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. Returning broadcasters this year include: play-by-play experts Jim Watson and Brian Webber, in addition to analyst Amanda Borden, a former American Gymnast and U.S. Gold Medalist from the 1996 summer U.S. Olympic team. New to the Networks this year are: former Utah women s gymnastics head coach Greg Marsden and Olympians Samantha Peszek and Alicia Sacramone Quinn. The Pac-12 Networks consists of one national and six regional networks devoted solely to the Pac-12. In addition to the hundreds of live televised Pac-12 sporting events, Pac-12 Networks subscribers will have access to Pac-12 Now, the TV Everywhere platform, which provides access to all Pac-12 Networks programming on any device through their broadband service. UTAH continues to lead the Pac-12 in team all-around average and team averages for all events besides floor exercise. On the floor, UCLA claims not only the best average in the conference, but in the entire nation. In the national rankings, OREGON STATE s Dani Dessaints is holding her place in third on the vault, STANFORD s Elizabeth Price is back in first on the all-around, and UCLA s Danusia Francis is second in the nation on the beam. Ten Pac-12 gymnasts from five different teams rank within in the top-25 floor performers in the nation this week. This upcoming weekend, the hot competition in the Pac-12 will continue as another two top-20 match-ups get underway Saturday. No. 5 UTAH will travel to No. 12 STANFORD and No. 14 CALIFORNIA will take on No. 16 OREGON STATE. UCLA floor success continues: UCLA is leading the nation on the floor and five UCLA gymnasts rank in the top-25 in floor score nationally. Sophina DeJesus, Hallie Mossett, and Angi Cipra are all tied for 8th in the nation in floor average, with Sadiqua Bynum coming in at 14th and Madison Preston ranked No. 25. Oregon State PAC-12 ANNOUNCES WEEKLY GYMNASTICS HONORS Today the Pac-12 Conference announced the Pac-12 women s gymnastics weekly honors for the week of Feb CALIFORNIA s Toni-Ann Williams was named the Gymnast of the Week, UCLA s Sophina DeJesus was voted Specialist of the Week, and UTAH s Sabrina Schwab was named the Freshman/Newcomer of the Week. CALIFORNIA sophomore Toni-Ann Williams earned Gymnast of the Week honors for the second time this season after leading the Golden Bears to a win over ARI- ZONA STATE on Monday, powering the team to its highest road score and second highest total in school history, a Williams swept every event title and matched her own program-record all-around total, scoring above a 9.9 on every event, includ-ing by a career-best on beam. Williams landed her rare double front dismount for the high score, and is currently the only gymnast in the world performing the double front dismount on beam. Williams also notched season-high totals on vault (9.925), bars (9.90) and floor (9.95) to pick up five titles for the evening. In the national rankings this week, Williams is eleventh in the country on floor and ranks No. 22 in both the all-around the vault. Last season, Williams was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. She was named Gymnast of the Week once and Freshman / Newcomer of the Week six times during the 2015 season. UCLA senior Sophina DeJesus earned Specialist of the Week honors for her performance in the Bruins win over OREGON STATE on Saturday. DeJesus became a viral sensation after her floor routine on Feb. 6 was viewed on the Internet by more than 27 million people. Coming off the newfound and unprecedented popularity, she performed well yet again, this time with a standout performance on the beam. DeJesus came close to scoring a perfect 10 on the beam, receiving a 10 from one judge and a 9.95 from the other to shatter her career-high with a It was her first career win on the beam, and helped the Bruins set a new team season-high on beam with a She followed up with a 9.9 on floor exercise to finish third.
