6 SCCWA HEADQUARTERS CIVIL WAR RE-ENACTORS AND SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA RESIDENTS SCCWA.com (909) /24/2013 Ladies and Gentlemen representing the Southern California area General Public, Civil War reenacting Community and Inland Empire Chapter, Boy Scouts of America: This is our 10 th anniversary and our biggest effort to date. The first ever Civil War re-enactment was held at Prado Park in Chino, CA way back in the spring of 2003 and soon after became known to all who attend as the Abe Simpson Eagle Scout Scholarship Foundation Fundraiser. Since then, this event has seen all kinds of weather and faired the turbulence of our nation s current economic ups and downs. We have grown into the state s largest Regional Park with seemingly unlimited space and have added an ever growing Regional Scout Camp-out in recent years. In looking back on the first 10 years, I think we all can share the thought of a fond memory or two when looking back on the annual Prado Park event. There has been a lot of sweat and tears put into this event by a good many people and praying for dry weather through the year s but frankly, it s been a great deal of fun in providing it. Most important, through the efforts of all you fabulous reenactor volunteers and the general public who have come to see you perform each and every year, this event has created college funding for 31 Eagle Scouts so far! It has also given tens of thousands of other Southern California area Scouts, leaders, history students and the general public the opportunity to see history come alive! Congratulations to you for making this happen.. With that said and this being our nation s 150 th anniversary of the original War Between the States, we will be portraying The Spring Campaigns of 1863 and the Battles of Gettysburg. The Union Army of the Potomac will be facing off with the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia on April 6-7, 2013 so don t miss it! Please help me thank all those City, County and State officials who have supported this fundraiser through the years by being a part of the opening ceremonies presentation planned for Saturday morning April 6 th, at 11:00 a.m. just off the battlefield at the VIP tent. Everyone is welcome! We also have a special 10 th anniversary presentation for all former Eagle Scout Scholarship Foundation recipients scheduled for Saturday at 12:45 p.m. on the battlefield just before the first battle. Another special venue for this event will be The Gettysburg

7 Address given by President Abraham Lincoln directly following the first battle both Saturday April 6 th at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday April 7 th at 12:00 p.m. on the battlefield. I am very pleased to announce the following re-enactment organizations and units that will be coming together this weekend at Prado Regional Park in helping to support the Abraham Simpson Eagle Scout Scholarship Foundation Fundraiser: ACWS American Civil War Association CHAS California Historical Artillery Society CWRS Civil War Re-enactors Society FTHA Fort Tejon Historical Association NCWA National Civil War Association SCCWA Southern California Civil War Association UAW Union Army of the West We will also have representatives and units from The New Buffalo Soldiers, website abuffalosoldier.com, Drum Barracks Civil War Military Museum, website - Sons of Union Veterans and Sons of Veterans Reserve organization s as well as Sons of Confederate Veterans organization. Thanks everybody for making this fundraiser possible for the Scouts! This year s event will also include, for the second time ever at this location, the 3 rd U.S. Mounted Artillery from Central California. If you would like to know more about this famous historical Artillery unit, please see We are all very excited to have them back with us! Special Thanks go to Harkins Theatres INC for your advertisement of this event in the Southern California area for the month of March! APRIL 5 th and 6 th, th ANNUAL PRADO PARK CIVIL WAR RE-ENACTMENT Just a heads-up for all you fans of the Prado Park Event and Regional Scout Camp-out: Next April 5 th and 6 th, 2014 marks our 11 th annual event and with that, we have the Spring Campaigns of 1864 in store for you all. 9 SCOUT BATTLE, 3:00 p.m. SATURDAY Considering we have another very large number of Scouts signed up for the Scout Battle scheduled for Saturday at 3:00 p.m., I have a feeling its going to be quite the spectacle once again. Last year was our fourth effort and was another astounding success. If you want to see where the next generation of re-enactors will be coming from, just listen for the sounds of hundreds of scouts battling it out in the middle of the battlefield around 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon. A very heartfelt thanks goes out to (Re-enactors) Tom Atkins, Bobby Taylor and Steve Pavich for all your help with the Scouts wishing to portray the Blue and Gray for this venue. The Scout battle is proudly sponsored by the SCCWA. HISTORY STUDENTS All History students have the opportunity to get extra credit by attending this event! Get with your Middle School or High School history teacher and let them know about the event. The SCCWA has question and answer sheets available so you can interview a Civil War soldier. Make a field trip up it and bring the entire class to spend the day enjoying the parking while learning about this very important time period in our nation s development. Admission discounts for School tours available by calling (909) GENERAL PUBLIC For your convenience and for the second time ever at this event, there will be an ATM machine available for all your cash transaction needs. The ATM machine will be located near the registration booth upon entering the event area. FOOD - There are food vendors available just inside the event area offering a delicious and varied menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner both Saturday and Sunday. You will find anything from BBQ Tri-Tip, Chicken and Ribs, Hamburgers, Hotdogs, to Breakfast Burritos, Roasted Corn Stuffed Potatoes, Yams, Funnel Cakes, Kettle Corn, Dippin Dots and everything in between so plan to eat at the event. WHAT TO BRING Prado Regional Park is the largest regional park in the state of California at 2,200 acres and possibly one of the most beautiful. Please bring some comfortable shoes as the event and battlefield is at least ¼ mile from the parking lot and it s a bit of a walk. There is handicapped parking and access for all those with appropriate plaques. It does get cold at night so bring a light jacket! Also, it might be advantageous to bring a folding chair, umbrella and/or E-Z up as the battles generally last for approximately 1 hour and there is no seating or natural shade along the 800 yards of split rail fence that lines the battlefield. (See attached program for Schedule of Events) RV FULL HOOK-UP CAMPING - Prado Park contains a 75 unit Full Hook-up camping facility and there are still spaces available. For more information about a camping space for the weekend, please Scout Troop 202 for a reservation at: (951) DRY CAMPING - The Park will also offer a limited number of Dry Camping spaces for this event.
