10 By: Emmanuel Joseph It is no doubt that humans, created in the image of God, are gifted with many talents to fulfill the Creator s plan for their lives. It is thus beyond limit the amount of great things we can achieve if we give ourselves the chance for God to work through us and with us. The One who crafted the universe desires the best for our lives and wants to use all we are and have for His glory. Among the plurality of talents we are blessed with is the talent to make a difference in the world around us. That is, we are called to live out our lives, reach out to the needy ones, and use our skills and resources to impact our community, our nation, and our planet. In this perspective, we the students of the IMPACT CLUB of Alice Lloyd College have committed to making a difference within both our campus and the community. The club performs many activities, but it mostly helps in sponsoring toy and food drives, organizing programs for the needy children and the elderly, and doing other community projects. Only looking at the problems of our community doesn t solve them. Sometimes it takes efforts, hard work, and actions to really change the face of a problem-rich community. Imagine, for instance, the tremendous impact a little gift and some food would make in the life of a child whose parents cannot afford those things, especially during holidays such as Christmas season. Think further about the contentment and smiling that a simple little thing would bring into the world of a child or any individual whose live we impact by just sharing what we have. It is surely a huge and lasting impact! So, that is what we stand for at our Impact Club. Our desire is to see a better and balanced community. A community where the basic living conditions of the children, the roots of future generation and future leaders, are met on a regular basis, especially during holidays. A community where everyone has a chance to good health, education, nutrition, etc. We believe that the change we want to see is taking place in one life at a time. And because the leaders are here in the mountains, as said Mrs. Alice Lloyd, the founder of Alice Lloyd College, the goals of the Impact Club for a better community will certainly be achieved on a larger scale overtime. Of course, such radical community change will require the participation of everyone, near and far, just as our club has been supported by generous people in its journey of community service. One of the ways the club gets funds to meet the needs of its target group is through fundraisings. We do our best to be creative, so people support us through our creative strategies. With that said, Christmas time is approaching and, as usual, it will be another great occasion for the club to surprise the needy ones, here in the Appalachian area, with Christmas tree angel and secret Santa, and other gifts. Did we say Santa? Yes, Santa Claus! Hmmm! Christmas is coming! At any rate, the club is having a fundraising in order to be able to impact some lives this end of the year. We are selling $ 20 value cards by "XTRAMAN FUNDRAISING" company (visit Cardholders will have discounts from more than 300,000 participating locations that Xtraman Fundraising has across the nation: Free Pizzas, Free Subs, Movie Discounts, Dining Discounts, Shopping Discounts, Recreation Discounts, Golf Discounts, Bowling Discounts, Theme Park Discounts etc. So many places for your discounts! Plus with the purchase of this card you will receive a free $ 25 Restaurant Gift Certificate. Good deal, isn't it? Way to go! We absolutely believe in your generous support so that we can reach out to those children. Please help us brighten the lives of the needy ones this coming holiday by buying this card. No matter WHERE you live in the U.S. you can help us make a difference by purchasing this card. We can mail your card to you, along with all the instructions you may be need. You can address your check to either the club or the president of the club: Chloe Lemaster, 100 Purpose Road, Pippa Passes, KY For those of you on campus, please make sure you support the club by buying a card from a club member. If you are from Eastern Kentucky and the Appalachian area in general, we have some extra local savings for you to take advantage from; places such as Holly Hills Restaurant, Frances's Diner (in Hazard), Unique Treasures, Cold Stone Creamery, Fazoli's, etc. Again, whether you are here in Kentucky or in other States, please support our community service's fundraising efforts. Thank you so much and may God bless you for your support! For any questions, please contact us at the following information: 1. Chloe Lemaster Phone: CA_Lemaster@alicelloyd.edu 2.
