WELCOME Dr. Linda Lujan welcomed members to the PCAC meeting at the Pecos Campus and the Arnette Ward Scott Performing Arts Center. 2. ADVISORY COUNCIL INTRODUCTIONS/CCJ Ms. Rhonda Curtis, Chair of PCAC, had the members go around the room to introduce themselves and asked each member to talk about their most memorable and/or favorite vacation trip. Ms. Curtis reminded members to fill out the member data form at the back of their packet and leave at the table so staff can update their records. If you need to update your contact information, please see attachment. Ms. Curtis asked Dr. Cindy Barnes Pharr to provide an update regarding Champagne, Chocolate & all that Jazz event on February 8. Dr. Barnes Pharr said we have exceeded sponsorship from last year and it s still not too late to make a difference in the life of a CGCC student by sponsoring the event or purchasing individual tickets. Inside your packet is an envelope to make your gift donations if you are unable to attend. We currently have over 200 RSVPs and hoping to raise $30,000. The venue is inside the college airplane hangar at Williams Campus. There are a lot of fun auction items to bid on including airline tickets, timeshares, theme baskets, etc. Dr. Barnes Pharr thanked Tony Hyland at International PCAC Minutes January 29, 2013 Page 3

4 Minute Press of Gilbert for providing the printing services for Champagne, Chocolate & all that Jazz. 3. COLLEGE UPDATE Dr. Lujan reviewed the enrollment growth PowerPoint slide on page 7. As of January 29, Spring 2013 enrollment is 12,914 students. Dr. Lujan was pleased to report that in the Monday, November 26, 2012, Community College Weekly journal, Chandler-Gilbert Community College was noted as the fastest growing community college in the United States in the category of more than 10,000 students. Dr. Lujan encouraged members to attend the 17 th Annual Greater Southwest Aviation Maintenance Technician Symposium at Chandler- Gilbert Community College s Williams Campus on March 7 & 8. Please see attachment for additional information. Dr. Lujan reported that Mr. Doyle W. Burke is the President of the Governing Board and continues to represent our college. Mr. Ben Miranda is the newest Governing Board member replacing Dr. Don Campbell who served from Mr. Miranda will be visiting each campus this semester and we will inform you of the reception we will be hosting. Please see the attachment of the two-page summary report that was prepared for to Mr. Miranda at his request. Dr. Lujan talked about the Maricopa Community College Governing Board approval of a new entity, a Corporate College led by Dr. Gene Giovannini. This project is on an accelerated development timeline and will consolidate and coordinate workforce development and training for the entire valley making it easier for business and industry and economic development groups to access needed education and training. Initially Corporate College will be housed in the new Business Incubator at Gateway Community College and has a projected start date of August Dr. Lujan talked about the Arizona Community College Coordinating Council which will provide needed coordination, communication, and advocacy for the state s community colleges.. You can read more at: Dr. Lujan shared the Governing Board Strategic Planning Goals for and discussed the board s focus on measurable results, outcomes, and accountability. 5 President of Academic Affairs, is one of the members of the districtwide planning team. Dr. Jackie Askin, Vice President of Administrative Services, reminded the members to attend the Coyote Center Groundbreaking event on March 22 at 3:00 p.m. The Coyote Center is funded by the 2004 Bond Program and is a multi-use facility housing Student Services new One- Stop Center and other services, the Athletic Department and academic programs in fitness and exercise science. This is the first time a community college has merged these services in one building. Dr. Askin went over the rendering of the inside and outside of the building which can be seen on attached PowerPoint slides She said we will have full solar and hot water heating for this building. No gas will be needed to heat this building in the winter time. We are also working on the thermal cooling for the storage system. This will provide us a savings of $100,000 per year in electrical cost. Michelle Gettinger, Tammy McLead, and Julie Coleman from Arizona Public Service Company presented Professors Tom Potter and Mark Weaver, Dean Maria Reyes, and President Linda Lujan with a $30,000 grant check in support of the College s Electrical Lineman Program. Dean Maria Reyes talked about the Arizona Sun Corridor Get Into Energy Consortium. Dr. Lujan showed a YouTube video of the Many Views, One Vision painted mural created by artist-in-residence Barbara Gomez. This mural represents the CGCC s vision and values, now and in the future. PERFORMING ARTS The college s Vocal Jazz Ensemble conducted (?) by Prof. Marc Denton, Music Faculty and Vocal Music Coordinator, performed two songs for the members. Iris Ishikawa, Administrative Assistant to Performing Arts, gave an overview of Performing Arts. 6 Dr. Lujan introduced Prof. Sally Jesse, Dance Faculty, to the members. Prof. Jesse talked about the music, theatre, and dance divisions. Professor Jesse provided post-meeting tours of the Performing Arts Center. 5. CLOSING REMARKS Ms. Curtis went over Save the Dates listed on the agenda. Dr. Lujan thanked members of PCAC for their long-standing support and partnership. 6. ADJOURN: The meeting adjourned at 8:55 a.m. 7.
