He will also touch on the importance of making sure the kitchen ventilation systems are properly commissioned to eliminate problems after a new facility opens. 2 HEART OF THE BLUEGRASS ASHRAE, REGION VII CHAPTER 128 PAGE 2 Recap of March s Chapter Meeting It was a full meeting due to Mr. Ed Taylor bringing a contingent of students from Central Kentucky Technical College. We were all entertained by Ms. Maralynne Flehner's dynamic presentation on negotiation skills. Ms. Flehner shared some very useful information, citing preparation as the key component to successful negotiations. She covered items such as basic negotiating techniques, goal setting, strategizing, communication skills, and many of the subtle aspects of social interaction during business negotiations. The buffet luncheon at the Campbell House was outstanding as usual. About our speaker for April s Chapter meeting.. Steve Melink is President of Melink Corporation, a manufacturer of kitchen ventilation controls and a provider of HVAC testing and balancing services based in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a licensed professional engineer and is certified by the National Environmental Balancing Bureau. Steve holds a BSME degree from Vanderbilt University and MBA from Duke University. He also has over 20 years of experience in the HVAC industry, with The Trane Company, Emerson Electric, Maysteel Corporation, and Melink Corporation. Mr. Steve Melink, P.E. 3 HEART OF THE BLUEGRA SS BLUEGRASS ASHRAE, REGION VII CHAPTER 128 PAGE 3 ASHRAE Honors Lexington Professor as New Fellow ANAHEIM The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) elevated William E. Murphy, Ph.D., P.E., to the grade of Fellow at the Society s 2004 Winter Meeting, held here January 24 28, Fellow ASHRAE is a membership grade that recognized distinction in the arts and sciences of environmental technology and is earned through achievement as a researcher, designer, educator or engineering executive. Approximately 500 of ASHRAE s 55,000 members are Fellows. Murphy is director of the engineering extended campus Paducah and professor, mechanical engineering, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY. His contributions started with his pioneering work as a doctorate student on the testing and rating of air conditioners and heat pumps. Later in his career, with support from electric utilities in Kentucky, he developed an HVAC lab on the University of Kentucky campus. He taught short courses at the lab and conducted research projects related to ground source heat pumps. He also designed and helped coordinate construction of psychrometric test chambers at Purdue University and Texas A&M University. These facilities have been used for many research projects, including several funded by ASHRAE. ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is an international organization of 55,000 persons. Its sole objective is to advance through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration to serve the evolving needs of the public. William E. Murphy receives ASHRAE Fellow award from Richard H. Rooley, ASHRAE President.
