[ STEP 2 ] Attend a recruitment session. All recruitment sessions are held in the Playzone located in the Carmichael Recreation Center. [ STEP 3 ] Submit an application. 4 AQUATICS AQUATICS The Carmichael Aquatic Center is the ideal location for aquatic exercise. A multi-use facility; recreation, fitness, NC State athletics, Health and Exercise Studies classes and private user groups all utilize the infinite benefits the Aquatic Center has to offer. FEATURES INCLUDE 25-Yard Pool with stadium seating 50-Meter Olympic pool Diving Well Wet Classroom ADA compliant pool lifts The Aquatic Center is home to the NC State University Swimming and Diving team as well as host to a variety of programs throughout the year. At the Aquatic Center you have the opportunity to enjoy swim and dive meets, Outdoor Adventure Clinics, Competitive Sports events, Health and Water Safety courses, and special events 5 6
5 AQUATICS AQUATICS AQUATICS PROGRAMS AND EVENTS HEALTH AND WATER SAFETY COURSES FAMILY SWIM With designated family swim hours, the whole family can enjoy the many features the Aquatic Center has to offer. Register dependent children, 17 years or younger, at the Member Services Suite. Guest passes are conveniently available for purchase in the same location. Please visit our website for additional information about Family Swim guidelines. FAMILY SWIM HOURS 5 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. 9:15 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. 10:15 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. SWIM LESSONS Private swim lessons allow individuals to have personalized training in the pool with the help of a qualified instructor. Lessons are also available for groups of three or less, who have similar goals. All ages and skill levels are able to utilize this service. Rates and course descriptions can be found by visiting our website. Our courses are taught by American Red Cross certified instructors and utilize the American Red Cross program for the respective courses. All courses meet the needs of workplace and professional responders, professional rescuers, school staff, and healthcare providers, as well as the general public. All courses include lectures, videos, demonstrations, practice and testing skill scenarios and/or a written exam. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive certification(s) that are valid for two years. Each course is three days in length. Course registration opens January 5. 6 CHALLENGE CHALLENGE COURSE COURSE University Recreation offers any group a unique experience constructed for its specific team-building and leadership development goals. Head to Schenck Forest for heart-pumping ropes course activities. LOW ROPES COURSE Embark on a team challenge as your group develops cohesion, ability, and trust. Work through a series of pursuits meant to foster positive group dynamics, cultivate decision-making skills and achieve greater insight on what it means to be a team player. HIGH ROPES COURSE Experience a true adrenaline rush on the 35-foot tall elements of the Jim Wall High Challenge Course. Leap off of the pamper pole, travel along the 300-foot zip line or climb the 35-foot cargo net. With 17 different elements to choose from, this course encourages you to discover new abilities and helps you to overcome personal boundaries all while enjoying the thrill of an enticing adventure. HOW TO REGISTER High Ropes, Low Ropes or combination programs can be scheduled by visiting our website or contacting recreation-teambuilding@ncsu.edu. Programs can be half-day or full-day in length. HIGH FRIDAYS Test your limits on the high ropes course during our High s program. Enrollment is open to all NC State students and faculty/staff. Price is $25 per person. ABOUT CLUB SPORTS Club Sports offer the opportunity for NC State students to represent NC State University by competing against other universities across the United States. Club Sports provide NC State students with opportunities for leadership development by holding officer positions. Members also participate in several community engagement events throughout the academic year CLUB HIGHLIGHTS Bowling placed 1 st in the Blue Hen Open for the 2 nd consecutive year. Clogging placed 1 st in the A Capella category and 3 rd place in the Standing Line category at the Cadence Nationals. Men s Cross Country and Track placed 2 nd in Regionals. Ice Hockey placed 1 st in the ACCHL regular season and 2 nd place at Nationals. Men s Ultimate was ranked #25 in College Ultimate Power Rankings. Paintball placed 1 st in NCPA Nationals Class AA Division. Racquetball earned 3 rd straight MACRC title

GROUP FITNESS With more than 150 complimentary classes available each week, the Group Fitness program offers a unique experience for all fitness levels. With fitness instructors guiding you through your exercise, your workout is guaranteed to be both active and engaging. Choose from a wide variety of classes including TRX, cycling, ZUMBA, H.I.I.T, and yoga offered throughout the day. A full schedule of classes along with class descriptions can be found on our website. PERSONAL TRAINING Workout with a nationally certified personal trainer who will help you stay motivated to reach your fitness goals. Packages are affordable and sessions are tailored to fit your schedule. Our trainers specialize in weight loss, strength and muscle gain, functional training and interval training. One session is all you will need to feel the difference that working with a NC State University Recreation Personal Trainer can make for you. FITNESS AND WELLNESS OUTREACH University Recreation offers outreach programs on a variety of topics related to fitness and wellness for students and faculty/staff at NC State. Programs such as fitness classes and wellness education can be held in multiple spaces on campus depending on the goals of the group. 10 FITNESS AND WELLNESS PROGRAMS SMALL GROUP TRAINING Want the individualized feel of one-on-one training at a more affordable cost? Small Group Training offers a unique opportunity for groups of 4-10 participants to explore a new dimension of fitness by merging Group Fitness with Personal Training. With the help of our Nationally Certified Personal Trainers and Group Fitness Instructors, you can achieve your fitness and wellness goals. Fall 2014 offerings include Barre Burn, IndoBoard Yoga, and Premier Boxing. Additional course offerings and descriptions can be found by visiting our website. Ten sessions are $100 for students and $125 for Carmichael Complex members. Register at the Member Services Suite, Carmichael Gym, Room SESSION REGISTRATION SESSION BEGINS FITNESS AND WELLNESS PERSONAL TRAINER COURSE National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) 8-Week Personal Trainer Program is geared to prepare you for the NASM Personal Trainer Certification Exam. Students will engage in hands-on learning in a variety of topics including exercise instruction, exercise prescription, fitness assessments and resistance training activities all under the supervision of our fitness professionals. The course fee of $550 includes all study materials and the exam is given closely following completion of the course. FITNESS AND WELLNESS COURSES Section 1 Section 2 Free Trial Week July 7 - September 2 July 7 - October 13 Drop in and try a session for free FITNESS ASSESSMENTS To ensure you get the most out of our fitness and wellness programs, a fitness assessment through the MicroFit Complete Fitness & Wellness Profile and a Functional Movement Screen (FMS) will be conducted to provide a baseline of your current fitness level. Results, along with the development of fitness goals, will help us design a safe, effective and individualized fitness program. September 2 - October 6 October 13 - November 14 August 25 - August 29 GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR TRAINING COURSE Learn how to safely and effectively lead a group fitness class through participation in the weekend long Group Fitness Instructor Training Course. Students will receive training on exercise instruction fundamentals including applied physiology, anatomy, biomechanics, class format and design, musicality, motivational strategies, risk management and coaching. Upon successful completion of the course, students that wish to pursue a Group Fitness Instructor position with University Recreation may take a written exam to be admitted into the Instructor Training Program. Although this prep course will give you the necessary skills to seek certification, it does not certify individuals as group fitness instructors or guarantee employment with University Recreation. 11 INFORMAL INFORMAL RECREATION RECREATION University Recreation offers you a variety of oncampus state-of-the-art facilities for recreation and fitness activities. Carmichael Complex is composed of Carmichael Gym, Carmichael Recreation Center, Aquatic Center, outdoor fields and numerous outdoor basketball and tennis courts. FACILITY INFORMATION For access to these facilities, a valid Membership and Wolfpack One or Carmichael Complex ID card is required. University Recreation facilities, services and programs are available to all NC State students who are enrolled in at least one credit-hour on campus and have paid the required activity and service fee for the current semester. Access to the facilities is granted beginning on the first day of classes and continues until the day before classes begin for the following semester
12 INFORMAL RECREATION INFORMAL RECREATION INFORMAL RECREATION CARMICHAEL COMPLEX OUTDOOR FACILITIES CARMICHAEL GYMNASIUM Carmichael Gymnasium is the heart of the Carmichael Complex. Standing tall since 1961, it is an integral part of recreation programs and one of the most identifiable facilities with the NC State community. Its purpose is to provide physical education as well as recreation for NC State students, faculty and staff. Expanded in 1987, it now consists of more than 400,000 square feet of recreation and fitness space. METHOD ROAD COMPLEX Offering you more than four acres of lighted field space, Method Road Complex is located just minutes from campus and is home to the teams of NC State Club Sports. MILLER FIELD Miller Field is conveniently located on campus. With more than eight acres of lighted space, it is the perfect place for any club or intramural sport to host activities, tournaments or functions. University groups also utilize Miller Field for various activities and special events. CARMICHAEL RECREATION CENTER Experience three stories of modern fitness, cardio and leisure space at the Carmichael Recreation Center. Located at the South end of the Carmichael Complex, the Recreation Center is home to more than 10,000 square feet of cardio and weight training equipment along with four spacious fitness studios. CENTENNIAL FIELD Explore Centennial Field at its beautiful Centennial Campus location just off of Achievement and Varsity Drives. With two and a half acres of playing fields, Club Sports take advantage of this location for practices and special events. DISC GOLF COURSE Take on the challenge and visit our nine-hole Disc Golf Course at its scenic location just off of Lake Raleigh. The course is available to students, faculty and staff, free of charge. AQUATIC CENTER Carmichael Aquatic Center is the ideal location for aquatic exercise. Our 25-yard and 50-meter Olympic sized pools are housed in this multi-use facility utilized by Health and Exercise Studies. Enjoy use of the dive well, wet classroom and outdoor patio. BASKETBALL AND TENNIS COURTS Complete with four full outdoor basketball courts and 12 tennis courts, the courts are the ideal place to stay active in an outdoor setting. Courts are located behind Carmichael Gym and available at your leisure during Carmichael Gym operating hours
13 INTRAMURAL INTRAMURAL SPORTS SPORTS Intramural Sports offer NC State students and faculty/staff the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports, tournaments and special events throughout the year. ABOUT INTRAMURAL SPORTS Intramural Sports allows NC State students to participate in organized team sports and individual special events with other NC State students. All skill levels are welcome. Players may form their own teams, or register as a Free Agent player to be picked-up by a team. INTRAMURAL SPORTS LEAGUES Co-Rec Fraternity Grad/Faculty/Staff Men s Sorority Women s All students must have a valid Wolfpack One Card and all faculty/staff must have a valid Carmichael Complex Membership. All players may participate on one single gendered team and/or one Co-Rec team for each sport. There is no additional fee to participate in Intramural Sports. OFFICIATING Put your passion for sports and knowledge of the game to use by becoming an Intramural Sports official. University Recreation is seeking students who are motivated leaders with a professional manner to officiate Intramural Sports games and tournaments. RECREATION EQUIPMENT CHECKOUT University Recreation conveniently offers a variety of equipment to be checked-out, free of charge. We offer clothing (shirts, shorts, socks), day-use locks, towels, and various sporting goods. Members can checkout equipment from the Equipment Room with a valid ID and must return their checked-out items by the end of the day
17 OUTDOOR OUTDOOR ADVENTURES ADVENTURES Take your recreation experience outdoors. Our Outdoor Adventures programs offer a variety of adrenaline pumping and innovative activities that challenge your mind and body and fulfill your desire for exploration. INDOOR CLIMBING WALL We want you at the top of our 30-foot high climbing wall. Complete with 40 different routes ranging from c difficulty rating, there is a route for every level of experience and a challenge for all students and members. Additional staff is available to belay beginners on specific days each week or register for one of our belay clinics. EQUIPMENT RENTAL CENTER Prepare for your outdoor experience with ease. Outdoor Adventures has all the essential equipment for your day, weekend, or week-long outdoor experience. Our affordable rentals include stoves, kayaks, backpacks, sleeping bags, tables, coolers, and games. Visit us in the lobby of the Carmichael Recreation Center where you can also register for a trip, clinic or climbing wall program. WOLFWHEELS The WolfWheels bike rental program allows you to get around campus using our unique and innovative approach to sustainable mobility. Singlespeed bikes are available for rent to all students, faculty and staff on a daily, weekend, weekly or semester long basis with a valid Wolfpack One Card. Included in the rental package is a bicycle with front and rear lights, helmet and lock
18 OUTDOOR ADVENTURES OUTDOOR ADVENTURES OUTDOOR ADVENTURES ADVENTURE TRIPS Our team of Adventure Trip staff is here to accompany and guide you on day, weekend or week-long trips to a long list of adventurous locations. Backpack in the mountains, mountain bike on a challenging trail or canoe along the river. Trip registration opens on Wednesday, August 20. For trip prices and detailed information please visit our website or the Outdoor Adventures Equipment Rental Center, located in the Carmichael Recreation Center. FALL 2014 TRIP SCHEDULE OUTDOOR ADVENTURES CLINICS Build the skills you need for your next outdoor excursion. Climb higher, roll a kayak, diversify your outdoor menu or repair your bike. Outdoor Adventure clinics offer the educational opportunities to get you there. Registration for clinics opens on Wednesday, August 20.
