3 3 Abstract The National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) is a non-profit organization established in 1957 as the Chicago Area Agricultural Advertising Association (CAAAA). In 1965, the name was changed to National Agricultural Advertising and Marketing Association (NAAMA) and a national charter was established in NAAMA was shortened to NAMA in NAMA's functions include holding conferences, seminars, and workshops for its members. This collection includes correspondence, meeting minutes, committee records, directories, clippings, conference records, newsletters, chapter reports, photographs, negatives, slides, videotapes, an audio reel, and audiocassettes. The materials document the organization's administrative activities, professional development activities and events, and involvement in professional and student chapters. Historical note The National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) is a non-profit organization created by Daniel R. "Spec" Collins in NAMA held its first meeting in 1957 in Chicago as the Chicago Area Agricultural Advertising Association (CAAAA) with 21 members in attendance. In 1965, a New York chapter was added and the name was changed to the National Agricultural Advertising and Marketing Association (NAAMA). A national chapter was established in 1966 and more chapters were added. The first student chapter, Cal Poly SLO (San Luis Obispo), was established in In 1973, NAAMA was shortened to NAMA for "agri-marketing," covering a broader range of membership. A national office was established in 1974 in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and was relocated to Overland Park, Kansas, in the 1990s. In the late 1990s, its mission was stated as, "We are committed to the exploration, exchange and application of ideas that contribute directly to the professional development of our members throughout their careers." A major function of NAMA is to hold conferences, seminars, and workshops for agrimarketing professionals. The first seminar, "Farmarketing," was held in Chicago in The first national conference, what was then the Marketing Seminar and later the Agri-Marketing Conference (1971), was held in 1968 in Kansas City. Since then, the Agri-Marketing Conference and Issues Forum have been held every year. The first Issues Forum, originally called the Outlook Conference, was held in 1976 in Washington, D.C. It later became the Marketing Management Conference (1982), and finally the Issues Forum (1985). NAMA has also given out many awards over the years, starting with advertising recognition for the 10 best ads of the year in 1960 and the first Agri-Marketing Man of the Year in Other awards include the National Award for Agricultural Excellence (NAAE), established in 1981, Agricultural Communicator of the Year, and several chapter awards including Achieving Chapter Excellence (ACE), its predecessors Star Chapter Recognition and Overall Chapter Excellence, and student chapter awards. Additionally, NAMA once played a major role in National Agriculture

4 4 Day by heavily sponsoring the day in its early years. In the late 1990s, NAMA began an initiative called NAMA, an effort to increase and improve programs and services to better serve agri-marketing professionals by the year In 1991, NAMA founded Agri-Business Educational Foundation, Inc. (ABEF). The foundation was granted 501(c)3 status and its first meeting was held that year. Board appointments were made by the NAMA Executive Committee and a NAMA Special Interest Group, the Professional Ag Trainers. ABEF is a charitable organization dedicated to helping students enter into agri-business careers through scholarships, marketing competitions, leadership training, and a student career program. As of 2014, NAMA brands itself as "the nation's largest association for professionals in marketing and agribusiness." It has over 1,800 members and 23 chapters, not including student chapters and membership from its Canadian counterpart the Canadian Agri- Marketing Association (CAMA).
