The Steeple Center houses the majority of the programs and events for the 55 plus/seniors. Programs are a partnership of the Rosemount Area Seniors and the City of Rosemount Parks & Rec. Senior Law Project The Senior Law Project of the Twin Cities offers legal assistance and referrals for all older adults of this area. You are encouraged to call the Senior Law Project to make an appointment. RAS Craft Club Steeple Center, Room 202 Cost: $5/person November Project: Holiday Wreath Tuesday, November 21, 1 p.m. Register By: Tuesday, November 14 Join us for a fun afternoon of crafting, where we will learn how to make holiday wreaths with the help of an instructor. You will order off the menu and pay at the restaurant. Nimble Thimble Quilters 1st & 3rd Wednesdays, 1 p.m. Steeple Center, Room 202 Do you have an interest in quilting or sewing? If so, you need to check out the Nimble Thimble Quilting Club! This is a social learning group, and all skill levels are welcome!

5 R A S A n n o u n c e m e n t s P a g e 5 Election of Officers Rosemount Area Seniors will be accepting nominations for the offices of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary for the 2018 Executive Board. If you would like to run for office or know of someone who may make a good officer, please share those names with a current board member. Voting will take place at the November 1st Monthly Luncheon/General Meeting. DMC CARDS The Rosemount Area Seniors are selling Metro Dining Club cards again this year. Cards are available for purchase at the Parks and Recreation Office in the lower level of the Rosemount Community Center. The cost is $25 per set. The Metro Dining Club is offering you and your family an opportunity to enjoy an entire year of discounted dining pleasure at 166 area restaurants. Cards are valid through October 31, RAS Membership Forms Don t forget!!! Your membership renewal is due by December 1. Forms are included in this Newsletter and can be returned during any scheduled activity, at the General Meeting Luncheon, or can be mailed to: Rosemount Area Seniors, PO Box 402, Rosemount, MN Check Your Mailboxes!! Please watch your mailboxes, as you will be receiving an important letter from Rosemount Parks & Recreation in early October. This letter will outline a proposal made to the Rosemount Area Seniors to transition from its current structure to an official City Commission. Please take the time to read this letter. There will be multiple opportunities to address questions and concerns, which also will be included in the letter. Thank you in advance for your attention to this important matter. Tatting Club? There have been a few folks expressing an interest in starting a Tatting Club here at the Steeple Center. Tatting is a technique for handcrafting a particularly durable lace from a series of knots and loops and can be used to make doilies, collars, jewelry, and other decorative pieces. People would bring in their own supplies and work on their own project, but would share patterns and help each other out when able. We would be looking for a leader, simply meaning someone to welcome people and coordinate any needs such as copies of patterns with Parks & Rec. If you would be interested in a Tatting Club, please sign up on the bulletin board outside Room 100 or contact Stephanie at T R I P S & O U T I N G S Christmas in Duluth Bentleyville Lights & Glensheen Mansion Second Date Added* Tuesday, December 12 (Passengers must save Tuesday, December 19 if trip must be rescheduled due to extreme weather or road conditions) Registration Deadline: Thursday, November 9 Cost - $79/person Bus leaves Community Center at 9:45 a.m. and returns at approximately 9:15 p.m. Head north to celebrate the holiday season! The first stop will be Fitger s Inn, the 1885 renovated historic brewery built on the shores of Lake Superior where we will enjoy a fabulous lunch. Menu will include: herb crusted oven roasted chicken breast served with a rosemary and garlic cream sauce, salad, potato, and petite desserts. After lunch, we will head to the famed Glensheen Mansion. The small rooms of the estate will be decorated for the holiday season, and the tour will allow guests to view the family living and work spaces, showcasing original interiors. Stories of the Congdon family and others who lived and worked at Glensheen bring this magnificent mansion to life. Our final stop will be at Bayfront Festival Park to experience Bentleyville Tour of Lights. Local volunteers work for weeks to put together a magical place to celebrate the holiday season. Walk through the remarkable display with millions of lights, Christmas trees, music and see Santa s helpers strolling about. There is a gift store inside a warm building and an open-air merchandise area with several fire pits. Throughout the 20-acre area, there is complimentary hot cocoa, coffee, popcorn, cookies and marshmallows that you can roast over the fires. *Requires pre-registration and payment. This program will partner seniors with elementary school students to help with homework, practice math and reading skills, read and share stories, and provide general mentorship. The goal of Sunshine Partners is to provide an opportunity for intergenerational connections through academic assistance, shared reading and mentoring. Blood Pressure Checks Thursday, November 9, 11:00 11:30 a.m. Steeple Center, Conference Room A nurse from The Rosemount Senior Living will be at the Steeple Center the first Tuesday of each month from 11-11:30 a.m. to do FREE blood pressure checks! Participants will receive a wallet size blood pressure log. Zumba Gold Mondays, 3:00 4:00 p.m. Cost: $5/class Steeple Center, Room 202 Zumba Gold is a fun-filled dance fitness class. Experience a complete body workout while learning the basic steps to salsa, meringue, cha-cha and other rhythms. No dance experience is necessary! Zumba Gold classes provide modified, low-impact moves for active older adults. This is a drop-in style class, so pre-registration is not necessary. The $5 fee is payable each class. *Requires pre-registration. Please see page 2 for registration options.

Rosemount History Series: Filming Free Air Thursday, November 16, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Robert Trail Library Explore the 10 days in August 1921 when Rosemount became the filming location for an adaptation of Sinclair Lewis s novel Free Air. The presentation will feature many stills and publicity photos not seen in public for almost 90 years. Presented by Gerald Mattson of the Rosemount Area Historical Society. History Book Club 2nd Tuesday of the month, 6:30 p.m. Robert Trail Library The Rosemount Area Historical Society in partnership with the Robert Trail Library selects titles to read and then meets to discuss and share ideas about these books.
