For those high school students whose only transportation is by school bus, they will be supervised in a central location during the times they are not required to be here otherwise. ALL junior high students are expected to be in their scheduled classes all three days, unless arrangements have been made with the high school office in advance of December 16, Any 8 th graders who are taking a high school class will report to that class s exam period and will then return to their regular junior high schedule. 5 Senior of the Month Program Amanda Miller Once again the Academic Alliance will be sponsoring our "Senior of the Month" program. Each month the staff will vote for a senior who demonstrates the following criteria: scholarship (including improvement/ outstanding efforts), leadership, citizenship, and involvement in school/community activities. Chosen seniors will select a $25 gift card of their choice from the Academic Alliance. A biography and pictures of the senior will be placed in the display case by the high school office. In May, these seniors will submit an essay to a committee of teachers and Academic Alliance members (who do not have a senior child). Based on the essays, one senior will be chosen as our "Senior of the Year." This senior will receive a gift card/monetary award up to $250 (based on available funds). Depending on his/her postsecondary goals, the award must be used for the purchasing of college supplies or materials necessary for enriching his/her future career. October Senior of the Month-Andrew Cheney Family Andrew is the son of Daren and Lisa Cheney. He has two older brothers, Aaron who is 23 and Matt is 22. Christmas is a time to play euchre, bake Christmas cookies, and spend quality time together in the Cheney household. Each summer he looks forward to traveling to Hilton Head with his cousins. Beach baseball is always on the agenda! Extracurricular Activities & Volunteer Work Andrew is extremely involved in extracurricular activities. He has been a member of the National Honor Society and Science National Honor Societies since he was a junior. Andrew is also an active member of Student Council. He is a three sport athlete participating in football, basketball, and baseball. In addition to these school activities, he is in Boy Scouts and St. Andrew s Youth Group. Currently, he is working on the logistics for his big Eagle Scout project. He hopes to have a safety net installed at the park s baseball field. He has also participated in the photography and baked goods categories of the Hancock County Fair. Andrew has been busy with community service as well. He has been involved with the Super Bowl of Caring, a local soup kitchen, shopping for a family in need at Christmas time, park cleanup and working at the Arlington Village Festival. Enjoyment and the Future. When Andrew finds time in between all of his activities, he enjoys spending time playing video games with his friends. He also likes to just relax watching shows on Netflix or reading. Andrew is looking forward to traveling to NYC and hanging out with his friends before he starts the next chapter of his life. He is still undecided on where he will be going to college, but is considering Trine University, University of Cincinnati, Miami University, OSU, and the University of Toledo. Where ever he attends school, he will be majoring in chemical engineering. What the teachers have to say about Andrew: Andrew is a hard-working, extremely conscientious person. I have witnessed, many times, that what Andrew could not do at first, he achieved by consistently persevering until he was able to accomplish the work. Andrew is a person of strong character and tremendous heart. He is a student who has a passion for learning beyond the requirements of the regular classroom! Andrew always goes above and beyond. He seems to have a real love for learning! Cheney always does what is asked of him, without complaining. He has a great sense of humor. Very intelligent and hard-working student. Gives his best in all he does. Andrew is a very hard working young man. He seems to always have a positive attitude and is always willing to help others. 5
