Sojourner House provides shelter, structure and inspiration to women and children who are victims of domestic violence. The donation period is from 11/14/16-12/20/16. You can drop off donations any time during the day. There is a list of children who will have to spend their Christmas at Sojourner House. Please contact Karen Perry for more information at (330) The Y.B.E.C.C. Program is hosting the Give Hope to Youngstown Dollar General Toy Drive. Donation period is from 11/16/16-12/9/2016. All toys donated will be given to the Choffin Preschool Center. Please drop off all donations to Room #233 or call Ms. Haynes-Paige at (330) for more information. The Early Childhood Program is hosting Choffin s 36th Annual Mitten Tree. They are asking for donations of children s gloves, mittens, hats, and school supplies. All items donated will be given to the Choffin Preschool Center and to Mahoning County Children s Services. Donation period is from 11/21/16-12/9/16. Please drop off all donations to Room #125 or call Ms. White at (330) for pick up or for more information. Tues., Dec. 6 The Choffin MD Program will attend The Lion s Club Christmas Party on 12/6/16 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. (Ms. Stubbs and Ms. Bowser) Tues., Dec. 6 The Choffin Multi-Media Program (Mr. Shivers) will be attending School of Mass Communication and Journalism at Kent State University on December 6, Tues., Dec. 6 The Choffin YBECC Program will be going on a college tour at Kent State University on December 6, KSU Campus Tour presentation will cover the admissions process, provides an overview of the university and a tour of the campus buildings and model residence hall rooms. 5 CHOFFIN CAREER AND TECHNICAL CENTER CONTINUED Wed., Dec. 7 The Choffin MD Program will attend their 16th Annual Special Needs Winterfest Dance 12/7/2016 from 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at The Mahoning Country Club. Please contact Ms. Bowser and Ms. Stubbs for more information. Thurs., Dec. 8 The Choffin MD Program will attend The Phantom s Hockey Game on 12/8/16 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Covelli Center. (Ms. Stubbs and Ms. Bowser) Thurs., Dec. 8 Parent Night at Choffin Career and Technical Center. 10th grade students and their parents/guardians who are interested in attending Choffin are welcome to our Parent night December 8 from 5 p.m. - 7 pm. Parents will have the opportunity to visit the program (s) their child is interested in, meet the teachers, and begin the application process all in one night! There will be light refreshments served for families. Thurs. Dec. 8 The Building Trades will be at Choffin from 1:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. to discuss apprenticeship and post secondary options with the seniors from several programs. Several trades will remain for the parent night to share the opportunities available to interested students and families at our parent night. 6 CHANEY STEM Congratulations to Mrs. Greathouse, middle school STEM teacher, who received a $2000 grant from the Turning Foundation for her project involving Arduino Coding Kits and software that will help better utilize our laser cutters. Congratulations to Mrs. Sinkele, engineering teacher, who received a $1000 grant from First Energy for her innovative Sparky Pals after school project that involves high school students mentoring middle school students in the "fun"damentals of electrical engineering. After school activities continue with Challenge 24 on Mondays, MathCounts on Tuesdays, Quiz Bowl on Tuesday and Thursdays, MS Robotics TBA and STEM Girls on Wednesdays.
