2 Faculty David Peterson David F. Peterson is in his 27th year of firefighting and is currently a lieutenant on Ladder 6 in Madison, Wisconsin. He is also the training and operations director for the Level A regional hazardous materials response team. David has authored articles for numerous fire service trade magazines and websites and presents across the country on hazmat and terrorism topics. He instructs for the International Association of Fire Fighters, the Emergency Management Institute, the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Fire Academy,and the State of Wisconsin. David also founded and served as the first president for the Wisconsin Association of Hazardous Materials Responders, Inc. He is the managing member of the Wisconsin FLAME Group, LLC which is a leadership and management training company. C.D. Denny Day Denny is currently the Railroad Program Manager for SUNPRO, Inc. He has over twenty-five years experience managing hazardous materials emergencies in the transportation, industrial, and public sectors. Has been involved as Incident Commander, Job Site manager or Supervisor on approximately 3,500 hazardous materials emergencies world wide. Mr. Day has also provided training on all levels of hazardous materials emergency operations and safety, both in house and for industrial and transportation customers. He is also currently serving as the Transcaer Coordinator for Ohio. William Brobst Bill is currently a captain with the Columbus, Ohio, Division of Fire and in-charge of their Hazardous Materials Response team. He has been employed as a professional firefighter for over 23 years. Bill has specialized in the hazardous materials response field and is an adjunct instructor in both HazMat and Terrorism subjects for The University of Findlay, Findlay, Ohio, The National Fire Academy, Emmitsburg, Maryland and The Ohio Fire Academy, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Bill also established and served as Chief of Fairfield County s Special Operations Team. He currently resides in Baltimore, Ohio with his wife, Cheryl. Bruce King Bruce is a co-owner/founder of AristaTek, based in Laramie, WY. He was a co-developer of the PEAC-WMD software application. His background includes fossil energy extraction projects. He also worked as a Principal Scientist for the University of Wyoming Research Corporation on a Hazardous Chemicals Technology Program that investigated the behavior of chemicals when released from their containers. The field studies of this program were conducted at the DOE Nevada Test Site s HAZMAT Spill Center (HSC). His education includes: BS - Chemistry, University of South Florida, MS - Chemistry, University of Wyoming and BS - Computer Science, University of Wyoming.

3 Faculty Mark Vedder Mark is a 32 year veteran of the fire service, currently serving as Battalion Chief for Solon Fire-Rescue in Solon, Ohio. He also works as Assistant Chief with the Chagrin Falls Village and Suburban Fire Departments, and is Hazmat Coordinator for the Chagrin/SE Hazmat Team in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He teaches Hazmat Topics for Cuyahoga Community College and the Ohio Fire Academy. He serves on the county Hazmat Committee and the Ohio Hazmat Technical Advisory Committee. He co-authored the Hazmat/WMD Operations course for the Ohio Fire Academy. He has a B.S. in Fire Safety Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. Al Johnson Al has worked 11 years as a Fire Fighter/EMT-I for the Uniontown Fire Dept. in Uniontown, Ohio. He joined the Stark County Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team in 1998, and became a Hazardous Materials Specialist and Confined Space Rescue Technician. He has also worked for SUNPRO Services as an Emergency Response Project Manager for the past 4 years. Terry Bindernagel Terry is a Lieutenant with the City of Cleveland, OH Division of Fire and has served with them for 23 years, and is currently assigned to Special Operations. He is an Executive Fire Officer (EFO) graduate of the National Fire Academy. He is an instructor for the Ohio Fire Academy and teaches Chemistry of Hazardous Materials for the National Fire Academy. He has conducted public/private research with Dupont, the Ohio Department of Health, the McCrone Group, MSHA and other groups for promoting Special Operations for the fire service. He is currently working with public and private agencies on responder/health department cooperative concerns. Daniel Collins Dan is Chairman of the Board and President of Operation Respond Institute, Inc. (ORI), a not-for-profit Institute dedicated to improving emergency response at hazardous materials and commercial transportation incidents. He is responsible for day to day operations of the corporation, interface with government, carriers and emergency responders. The Operation Respond Program is presently in 50 states, Canada, and Mexico with over 56,000 emergency centers involved reaching an estimated 2 million responders. He has a B.A. in Economics from Canisius College and his M.B.A. in Transportation Economics from American University. Dan will be joined in his presentation by representatives from the Norfolk Southern Railroad and the CSX Railroad.
