4 STUDENT GOVERNMENT The purpose of the SGA is to act as an organized voice for all students of Armstrong Atlantic. We work to represent all students to the university in decisions that affect the students of Armstrong Atlantic. Whether it is an academic or a student life issue we are here to help. It is our goal to improve the overall student experience by relaying suggestions and concerns to administrators and organized governing bodies of the university. All Armstrong Atlantic students are members of the SGA, and are encouraged to take an active role in this organization. The Student Government Association would not exist without students. We have open meetings every Monday at noon in Solms Hall room 110. I encourage everyone to come to at least one meeting. The SGA Executive officers, Student Senate, and I are constantly making changes for the betterment of our campus. Be sure to regularly check our website for updates on how we are improving, and developing the student culture on campus. We are creating great goals for the future; we want you to know about them and how they may affect you. Please feel free to contact us with any of your questions or concerns. Sincerely, Somi Benson-Jaja President GREEK LIFE Most American colleges have a Greek system. It's not what you think... "the Greeks" are not students from Greece. Instead, Greek societies at American Universities denote social fraternities (for men or "frats") and sororities (for women), and are called "Greek" because of the Grecian naming of the societies (e.g. Delta Sigma Theta). Some Greek societies in the United States are several hundred years old, and have chapters (branches) at many colleges around the country. In order to join a fraternity or sorority, you have to "pledge". This occurs after "rush" (a process at the beginning of every semester where interested students can learn more about the organizations). ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INC. Advisor: Vanessa Martinez Phone: Dept: Financial Aid Vanessa.Martinez@armstrong.edu Web: DELTA SIGMA THETA An international sisterhood of college educated, minority women committed to public service. Advisor: Dr. Donna Brooks Phone: Dept: Special Education UH Donna.Brooks@armstrong.edu Web: PHI IOTA ALPHA A national fraternity dedicated toward the appreciation, promotion and preservation of the Latin American Culture. Advisor: Francisco Duque Phone: Dept: University Relations francisco.duque@armstrong.edu Web: PHI MU ALPHA SINFONIA A national fraternity that supports the brotherhood of musical students and the advancement of music in America.
