In ASU s 4-3 loss to Miami (OH) last Friday, the sophomore hit two home runs and drove in three runs. With her two home runs, Boyd became the first ASU player to have a pair of multi-home run games. Later in the weekend, the Walkertown, N.C., native went 2-for-3 with a home run in a 4-1 loss to nationally-ranked Purdue. Boyd now has 12 home runs in her Mountaineer career, good for third place in the ASU record books. Player of the Week Feb. 9 Jessica Owens, Samford Feb 16 Katie Boyd, Appalachian State Appalachian State s Katie Boyd PITCHER OF THE WEEK AMBER HARRELL - UNC GREENSBORO Harrell went 2-0 with a 0.54 ERA last weekend as the Spartans defeated Charlotte and Army at the Green and White Classic in Charlotte, N.C. The junior threw complete games in both contests and allowed only one earned run and five hits in 13 innings of work. In a 3-2 extrainning win over Charlotte on Friday, the McDonough, Ga., native pitched all eight innings and struck out seven batters, while allowing three hits. In a 4-1 victory over Army on Saturday Harrell again struck out seven, while giving up one hit. 2 AROUND THE BASES - Georgia Southern head coach Maggie Johnson picked up her first two career head coaching victories on Sunday when the Eagles defeated Mercer, 5-3, and Appalachian State s 3-2 victory over No. 23 Purdue was the Mountaineers first victory over a ranked foe in school history. - Georgia Southern s MacKenzie Williams first career hit was a grand slam. The four runs gave GSU its first lead of the game against Mercer on Sunday in game two of a doubleheader. - Western Carolina s Stephanie Beatty recorded her 85th career RBI this past weekend, which moves her into first place all-time in Catamount history. - Samford was unable to compete in its scheduled games last week.
