2 Flying High with Ageless Aviation It was a hot sunny day when the resident veterans took off from Kent State Airport in a WWII Stearman. Ageless Aviation came to town and provided a 20 minute flight to our proud vets. Ageless Aviation is a foundation whose motto is Giving back to those who have given so much, and they graciously come to town each year to share their wonderful experience. With music and food and family and friends in attendance, our veterans soared through the blue skies! What a beautiful way to honor the greatest generation! Mulberry Garden residents came to support our vets! Jack getting geared up to fly! Carroll and family celebrating the adventure together! Richard is ready to take off! Dutch receives his flying hat!

3 How do you define a friend? Friendships, Now, Then, Forever By Helen Weyrick According to the dictionary, a friend is a person one knows, likes and trusts as an association or acquaintance; a form of address; a favored companion; one who supports and sympathizes. The phrase You are my friend carries a great deal of responsibility. To be a friend is a position of great importance. Being a friend should be a prized compliment and responsibility. At present, it is difficult for one to have long-lasting relationships because our society is so mobile. We move more frequently with a change of position, education or economics. A few people have been friends for years, starting in school. Others become friends through a hobby or craft where they share knowledge and skills; some examples are painting, wood carving, knitting or music. People have become friends through community organizations or religious affiliation. The opportunities are endless to meet and enjoy making friends. Long before our lives, when pioneers arrived in the New World, there was much hard work to be done. People established communities with homes, barns, churches, stores, schools and public buildings. Creating them needed many tools and skills. How were these needs met? Some men had looked ahead and brought the tools to use in construction and the knowledge to use them. They willingly shared their tools so their neighbors could build too. Thus began friendships that lasted because they had mutual needs. In rural areas today, you may find such tools in barns and sheds. Look in Grampa s tool box for those old implements which started long-lasting friendships. The move to the New World also offered women many opportunities to make friends through household tasks. There were few stores selling needed articles and supplies. What one woman needed, she might find at her neighbor s home or farm as each had different supplies. A woman was responsible for clothing the whole family and material was scarce. Many times the women would make children s clothes out of those of adults. At times, they could give items to a friend to use for just the right color of an article. Patterns were difficult to find, so women made their own from newspapers. Women also brought along their quilt-making talents. They had quilting bees, sharing scraps of material left over from garments they made. One important part of quilting was the beautiful patterns they created by sharing designs with friends. The women also packed cooking utensils because general stores offered very few. They borrowed pots and pans from friends, as well as recipes. Some of those recipes used years ago are still around. Cookbooks of old recipes are sold to this day. There are recipes signed by the creator who was proud to give it as a gift to a dear friend. Today, people are brought together many different ways. One of the most popular is sports. There are many sports and many ways of participating. Sports can be two people or big teams. People can be actively involved or merely observers. They can follow the sport of their choice in the newspaper, magazines or sports sheets. Some people follow one player by scores or family activity. They choose friends who have the same player interests. Going to a game with friends is quite popular. Children become interested in sports as schools sponsor teams for exercise and cooperation. The parents become interested as their families take part in all aspects of the sport. Long friendships have been made from childhood sports. Will you be my friend?

5 A Special Visit From The Parker Group While our normal visit with the Parker Group includes fellowship, games and lots of laughter, this visit was different! This visit was special! The Parker Group brought some hymns we have all enjoyed singing over the years. They also brought along some special friends to play the piano and guitar. Everyone enjoyed singing hymns together, as well as requesting some favorites. The Parker Group welcomes anyone who would like to join them in activities when they come to visit Mulberry Gardens every other Saturday. We are also looking forward to singing more hymns in the future with the Parker Group! New Activities! Join us and check out all the new activities this month!

6 Paparazzi Jewelry Party! It was time to shop, shop, shop! The residents enjoyed a Paparazzi jewelry party! It is always fun to pick up a little bling! Homemade Cherry Vanilla Lip Scrub Following a recipe, our residents enjoyed making a Cherry Vanilla Lip Scrub. Almond, cherry and vanilla fragrances filled the room. We meticulously measured out each ingredient and stirred them together to make a delicious lip scrub. Before putting the lip scrub into an airtight container, residents enjoyed trying the lip scrub they had made. Residents not only made a lip scrub for themselves but also one to give to a friend. In the end, everyone had silky smooth sweet lips!
