2 Our Mission Our mission is to provide various recreational opportunities, promote a healthy lifestyle, and develop life long habits that will enhance the well being of all Auburn citizens. Summer Rec Camp Financial Assistance Policy and Procedure for Summer 2018 Auburn Recreation will process request for financial assistance for residents of Auburn applying for Summer Day Camp. Monday, January 8, Summer Rec Camp Financial Assistance forms can be obtained at the Hasty Community Center or online at Friday, March 9, 2018 Application Deadline for Financial Assistance applications for Summer Rec Camps. Friday, March 23, Your application will be processed and letters will be mailed in response to your request regarding the amount of assistance that you may/may not receive. We will NOT process Summer Rec Camp financial assistance request forms after award letters have been mailed. 3 2017 Summer Program Registration Information Registration is open NOW until the program is full or begins (unless otherwise noted in the write-up) How do I Register? Registration can occur either in person at the Recreation Dept. at the Hasty Community Center 48 Pettengill Park Rd. OR Online at Registration Process: Pre-registration and pre-payment are required for all classes. For summer, fall, winter, and spring programs registrations are accepted in person, mail, online, or over the phone. Payment is expected prior to the start of the first class date, unless otherwise stated. Individuals may register their own family and one other family for programs unless we have specified otherwise. Non-Residents: Person who do not live in Auburn must pay an additional fee of $10 per class. This includes senior citizen non-residents, unless otherwise specified. Confirmations: We do not send course confirmations or reminders of enrollment. If you register for a program and do not receive a call from us, you have been accepted into the class and are responsible for knowing class dates, times, and location. Refunds: If we cancel a class or special event all fees will be refunded. If you withdraw 3 business days before the first class or one time event (excluding weekends & holidays), you will receive a full refund. If you withdraw fewer than 3 business days before the first class or one time event, you will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given if you cancel after the class or the one time event has taken place. If you are dissatisfied with a program after the first class of a session, you must let us know before the second class of the session. We will issue a 50% refund at this time. No refunds will be given after the second class of a session. Refunds take about days to process. We do not provide cash refunds. If injury occurs to a participant that prevents the participant from continuing in a class, you may request a pro-rated refund of the activity fee. Trip Refund: If Auburn Recreation cancels a trip we will refund all fees to the participant. If the participant notifies us 3 or more business days before the scheduled trip we will issue a full refund unless otherwise noted in the brochure. If the participant notifies us fewer than 3 business days before the scheduled trip we will issue a 50% refund. No refunds will be given the day of the trip or after the trip is held. Inclusion: Auburn Recreation provides reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities. In order to accommodate your needs a request must be made at least 10 days prior to the first day of the program. 3

4 AUBURN RECREATION SUMMR 2017 Page 4 J UNE 26TH A UG 18TH Our day camps offer structured activities from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Drop-Off at both camp locations starting at 7:30 a.m. and Pick-Up ending at 5:30 p.m., 5 days a week. By working with the schools we are able to offer all campers breakfast and lunch at no cost through the federally sponsored summer food program. Each day, campers will take part in a variety of organized activities, games and arts & crafts. One day each week, campers will go on a beach trip, where they will enjoy organized activities and swimming. The Kindergarten through 3rd grade group delights in the Wednesdays-In-The-Park program each Wednesday and one day each week all camps participate in a special event/excursion day. 6 AUBURN RECREATION SUMMR 2017 Page 6 Youth Sports Camps Auburn Wreck Football Camp The Auburn Recreation Department with Coach Ron Nadeau and staff are proud to present the Auburn Wreck Football Camp. A chance to dust off the cleats and hit the field early before the season begins. The camp focus will be on football specific conditioning drills, skill & technique development, basic offensive & defensive schemes, as well as football terminology. This is a great opportunity to get ready for the season! Date: August 7-10 Location: Edward Little High School Time: 3-6th grade 5:15pm, 7-8th grade 6:30pm Cost: $30 ($40 for non-residents) Grades: 3-8th grade Coordinator: Peter Ceprano TWO EASY WAYS TO REGISTER: 1. Or save time and register on-line by going to Eddies Football Camp The goal of Eddies Youth Football Camp is to prepare children for participation in the fall football programs through instruction in the proper fundamentals, skills, and techniques. The staff is committed to maintaining a fun-filled program with emphasis on mutual respect among participants and coaches. All participants should arrive 15 minutes before start line and come prepared for a full three hours of active instruction. Date: August 5th (one day) Price: $20 ($30 for non residents) Grades: 3rd 8th Time: 9 a.m. Noon Location: Edward Little High School This is not a contact camp. The only equipment participants need is comfortable clothing, sneakers or cleats, and a water bottle. Camp shirts will be issued. Program Coordinator: Peter Ceprano 6

7 AUBURN RECREATION SUMMR 2017 Page 7 Youth Sports Camps Seacoast Soccer Camp Players will be introduced to the basic techniques of soccer in a fun and positive environment. Emphasis will be on learning through fun games and small sided play. In accordance with their Smart Soccer philosophy, they will also address skills such as communication and sportsmanship. Practices and trainings focus on the development of ability, balance and coordination, directed by coaching staff selected and trained to work exclusively in your child s camp. They practice their public speaking skills and learn the ability to pitch their ideas effectively. Camp will be led by Young Hacks Academy Staff. Lunch and computers are NOT provided for this program. Kids looking to use their school laptop should contact Peter Robinson (Probinson@auburnschl.edu) for approval. Each training class will consist of an hour that focus s on all aspects of skill development from ball handling, shooting, 1 on 1 moves, creating space to get your shots off, speed and agility, and much, much more Each participant will receive a L/A Swish shirt. Located at Hasty Community Center. Min/Max 5/12 per time slot. Meet head coaches Andie and Tammy as they provide a sample of what our track program offers! They will touch upon the basic events; running, hurdles, relays, high jump, long jump, and throwing. Come check it out and see if Track and Field would be a good fit for you. 11 AUBURN RECREATION SUMMR 2017 Page 11 For ages 6-15 We are thrilled to welcome Angie Jalbert and Tammy Rodrigue to the coaching staff as this years co-head coaches! The coaches and volunteers make the program fun and interesting for all, providing expert instruction and training in sprinting, running, hurdles, relays, high jump, long jump, and throwing events. Practices are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at the ELHS track. Competition is offered through scheduled Maine USA Track & Field Meets each Thursday beginning in late June starting at 10am. Auburn hosts two developmental meets and a division qualifying meet each summer. Participants are encouraged to compete in at least one event, in at least one meet. The five developmental meets are followed by a division qualifying meet and the state meet, to be held on August 10th. NOTE: Children 9 and under will require a parent to be present at practice. Volunteers are essential to the success of this program. If you are interested in helping, or you would like more information, please speak with coaches. For 2017 season, copies of each child s birth certificate are needed at time of registration. There will be no online registrations, copies can be made at the rec. office when signing up, or send in the registration form with payment and copy of birth certificate/s included Meet Schedule Developmental meets start at 11:00 a.m. There is a $2.00 fee per meet and a $3.00 fee for District and State meets. 12 Grades 3-6 Register for TACKLE FOOTBALL at the 3rd-4th, and 5th-6th grade levels. Teams practice 3 times a week in preparation for league games, which are held on Saturdays or Sundays from early September through the end of October. Uniforms and equipment are issued by the department. Players must provide their own mouth guard, cup and cleats. All players must show proof of having passed a sports physical within 2 years of the start of the program. Auburn Youth Football is for Auburn Residents only. is part of the Mid Coast Youth Football League. This includes teams from Turner, Brunswick, Topsham, Lewiston, and Bath. 13 7th & 8th Grade The Auburn Recreation Department will sponsor Varsity and Junior Varsity Football squads that will have a complete game schedule. While sportsmanship, physical fitness, participation and recreation are emphasized, the league competition is spirited and exciting. Practices begin the week of August 17th at Chestnut Field and are held 5 days a week during the season. Participants must show proof of having passed a sports physical within 2 years of the start of this season, prior to receiving their equipment or attending practices. All football equipment and uniforms are issued by the recreation department. Players must supply their own personal protection equipment and rubber-cleated shoes. is part of the Mid Coast Middle School Football League where we will compete against teams from Turner, Bath, Oxford Hills, Brunswick, Mt. Ararat, Lewiston, Gardiner, and Augusta. By MCMSFL rules, only players living in Auburn are eligible for this program. If you have never played or are an experienced player we have the right program for you. We have a progression level program that will place players in the right skill level so they will always find success on the court. These lessons are designed with the beginner and intermediate golfer in mind. Golfers must provide their own clubs; golf balls at the driving range are provided. Bus leaves Pettengill Park at 10:00 a.m. and will return by 5:00 p.m. Menu: Maine lobster (or BBQ chicken), rich clam chowder, a pile of juicy mussels and steamers, corn on the cob, roasted potatoes and onions and Maine blueberry crumb cake. Cost: $5.00 for transportation. There is no cost for the show, but the Sawyer Foundation gratefully accepts donations at each performance. We will return by 4:00 p.m. Coordinator: Jan Biron Sawyer Foundation Friday, July 28, 2017 Lorraine Ouellette Trio Performance Van will leave Pettengill Park at 11:30 a.m. We will have lunch at Hurricane s Café at Noon (on your own) and then head to the Sawyer Foundation for the performance at 2:00. We will park near the beach and the pier so we can walk to get lunch, or you can bring your lunch and eat on the beach. Lay out in the sun, or bring an umbrella. Take a walk on the beach, or just relax in your favorite chair. It s all up to you! Cost: $10.00 per person. Van will leave Pettengill Park at 9:00 a.m. and return by 4:00 p.m. Register early. Van will leave Pettengill Park at 11:00 a.m. and will return by 4:00 p.m. We will stop at a local restaurant for lunch (on your own) and continue on to Market Basket in Biddeford. There you can take advantage of all their fabulous grocery deals! We suggest you bring an insultated bag along for the cold items. Register in advance as space is limited. 18 Page 18 Fishing Derby Join us for this fun filled derby where kids of all ages have a great time. Action can be fast and furious, and is always fun. We stock Pettengill Pond with over two hundred Brook Trout ranging in size from 6 to 12 inches!! This event is made possible through the generous support of the Auburn Exchange Club. Sat. May 13 Cost: $5 per person Ages 3 15 Time: Ages 3 to 8 from 8-10am Ages 9 to 15 from 11am-1pm Location: Pettengill Park Pond Falcon Fitness 5K Trail Run put on by AMS PTO and Wolf Pack Fitness to raise money and help promote healthy exercise for all ages. Race will be a 5k mud/trail run held on Mt. Apatite, with multiple obstacles set up along the way. Obstacles will have different options and levels, which will adjust based on physical fitness level and age. All participants will need to sign a liability waiver Our fast break basketball league will include a minimum of 8 regular season games plus playoffs. Adult Basketball Men s Fast Break Date: Monday s Starting June 5 Cost: $625 per team Time: Evenings Location: Hasty Community Center 18+ with rosters due before first game Coordinator: Heath Crocker, Auburnrecbasketball@gmail.com Men s Slow Down League The slow down league offers a slower tempo than the fast pace league but still is just as competitive.
