Pop Quiz! Ryan is on the lacrosse team and has been asked by some friends to play in a recreational lacrosse tournament during a weekend in early September when the DU team is out of season. Is it permissible for Ryan to play in the tournament?

Answer No. Student-athletes cannot play on outside teams during their playing season. Things to remember: The only time during the academic year a studentathlete can play on an outside team is during official vacation periods outside of the playing season. Must receive permission from coach and Compliance to play on an outside team during the school year. Some exceptions apply talk to the Compliance Staff.

Pop Quiz! Dylan is a swimming student-athlete who will be entering his junior year of school in Fall What academic requirements does he need to meet? Name at least 3.

Answer Enroll in 12 or more credits for fall Earned at least 6 credits in spring quarter Earned at least 27 credits during academic year (fall/winter/spring) Have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA Have declared his major if he has over 75 credits Have completed at least 40% of his degree requirements

Pop Quiz! After watching Hannah and Jill help their lacrosse team win a big game, Bob the Booster offers to take them out to Crimson & Gold for a congratulatory dinner. What should Hannah and Jill do? Is this ever a permissible activity?

Answer Thank Bob for his generosity, but graciously decline and explain it is against NCAA rules to accept a free meal from a booster. An occasional meal from a booster is only permitted if it is provided in the individual s home and has been approved in advance by the Compliance Office. Only way this arrangement would be permissible is if Hannah and Jill were to provide their own transportation and pay for their own meals.

Pop Quiz! Jacqlyn is signed up to take INFO 1010 and has a $250 charge on her account for the Microsoft Certification fee. Does she need to pay this charge or is it covered by her scholarship?

Answer She must pay this fee! Course fees cannot be covered by an athletics scholarship, even a full athletic scholarship. Reminder: DO NOT ignore charges on your account by assuming your scholarship will cover them. When in doubt, ask Compliance!

Ask Before You Act! Cynthia Rail Associate AD for Compliance Brian Carey Assistant Director of Compliance
