Murphy, Director - Area Code 219, Phone For Release in AM's, Sunday, August l4th; Notre Dame, Ind., August Grade school moderators representing parochial and public school groups as well as parishes throughout the country will meet here in late August for the second annual Young Christian Student apostolic workshop* The four-day conference, which will begin Aug. 21, will be of special interest to Catholic clergy and laity who are interested and involved in the apostolic formation of Christian youth. Nationally known speakers, sixteen special workshops, and various group discussions will be included in the conference on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The conference, which is being coordinated by the Catholic Action Office at Notre Dame, is under the chairmanship of Sister Victor Marie, 0.8 *F*, Young Christian Student director of the Chicago regional office. The following speakers and their topics have been scheduled for the conference: Rev. Francis Files, S.J., on sex psychology; Sister Gertrude Joseph, O.S.J.O., author of Sister Apostle,n on human relations in group dynamics; Dr. Josephine Ford, British scripture scholar, on the Personal Christ,* and Rev. Thomas J. Bresnahan, national director of the Gabriel Richard Institute, on leadership training. Other speakers will be Rev. Louis J. Putz, C.S,C., rector of Moreau Seminary at Notre Dame, on the Church in the modern world; Brother Harold Victor, F.S.C., on the apostolate of the laity; Rev. James Neuman, more

2 pastor of the Huunbolt Park Evangelical United Brethren Church, Chicago, on "Being Christian/1 and Mrs. L.J.Bernhauer, a school psychologist, on Junior high school student psychology. too panel discussions will he held during the conference. One, scheduled for Monday, Aug. 22, afternoon, will deal with such topics as Young Christian Student techniques, training a leader, student study days, organizaing Young Apostles in the school or parish, social inquiry, and gospel discussion. The second panel, to he held Tuesday afternoon, will include such topics as Young Apostles in rural and suburban areas, and the Church in the modern world. The workshop will conclude Wednesday morning, Aug. 24, with a community celebration of the Mass.

Murphy, Director - Area Code 219, Phone For Release in AM1s, Sunday, August 21st: 66/39 Notre Dame, Ind., Aug 21 The problems and opportunities facing the Roman Catholic and his church in the twentieth century will he discussed in sessions of the 22nd general convention of the Catholic Students * Mission Crusade to he held at the University of Notre Dame August 2$-28. This year the CSMC and Notre Dame will co-sponsor a seminar, "The Church in the World, which will run simultaneously with the convention. However, attendance at this seminar will be limited to teachers, Dis- cussions in the convention will he carried on by students, The purpose of the CSMC is to make Catholic students in the United States aware of the mission work of the Church and help them understand what they can do to share in it. Of the many ways the CSMC does this, the general convention held in even-numbered years is the most important and effective. During the four days of the convention and seminar, students, teachers and mission directors will have an opportunity to meet missionaries from all parts of the world. The seminar sessions will he held in the new Center for Continuing Education on the University campus. Several hundred convention-goers are expected to start arriving here by the middle of next week. Thirteen residence halls on the campus will house the students. The convention and seminar sessions will follow approximately the same pattern, and some of the speakers will appear on both programs, but speakers and subsequent discussions will aim at different objectives for the two audiences.

4 The national office of the 08MG in Cincinnati, Ohio, has limited attendance at the seminar to C8MC moderators and.other mission directors, including diocesan directors of the C8M0 at the Propagation of the Faith who are interested in renewing their knowledge of all the Church s missions. The national office has also set an age limitation for the students registering for the convention. No student under the level of the second year of high school "by the fall of this year may register. Due to the size of the convention enrollment, two divisions have been set up for the students. In addition to the group discussions on world problems, carried on in both the seminar and the convention, the following topics will be aired in convention addresses: The Church in the World, (keynote theme), Bishop John J. A fifteen week evening course, Lectures on Computer Programming/ will he offered by the University of Notre Dame s Computer Center in association with the Center for Continuing Education on the campus. The courses, which are free of charge and open to the public, will begin September 21, Dr. Don Mittleman, director of the Computor Center, said the course "will be given as a public service "bo the residents of the St. Joseph Valley. It will be taught by Dr. Charles Bollinger, corporate manager, engineering sind. scientific computing, the Whirlpool Corp*, St. Joseph, Mich. Dr. Mittleman said the lecture series will be given on a non-credit basis and no homework or examinations will be involved. Students will be urged, but not required, to obtain a textbook, he said, A aimilar lecture series on computor programming was held at Notre Dame last year, and about 175 persons completed the program. As many as 200 students can be accommodated for the course which is scheduled from 7:30 to 9 :30 p.m. on fifteen successive Wednesdays. The final lecture will be given in the Center for Continuing Education, The rest of the lectures will be given in the Computing Center, southeast of the Memorial Library. There will be no advance registration, Dr. Mittleman explained, and students should simply report to the Computing Center at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, 8ept, 21.
