11 March/April September 21 November 16 For Families, Friends and Neighbors Who Are Preparing to Care The Region One Family Caregiver Initiative Team has put together four caregiving forums since November The team is made up of community businesses, Fairfax County services, and nonprofit organizations within the region. Our desire to focus on supporting caregivers was based on center staff s experience over the past few years. Many adult children contact a senior center looking for guidance when it comes to caregiving. Questions revolve around services available for an aging parent or loved one, transportation and at home services. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisor s Committee on Aging 2007 was formed to look to the future of Fairfax County in light of the increasing older adult population. They continue to be guided by the work of the Commission on Aging through an annual scorecard review. There is a lot of good work being done in relation to family caregiving: The Rosalynn Carter Institute (RCI) for Human Development work is driven by First Lady Rosalynn Carter s passion for enabling caregivers to do their work well. AARP Foundation Fairfax Area Agency on Aging Guide to Retirement Living, Steve Guerney We recommend Prepare to Care : A Planning Guide for Families, AARP Foundation; a basic handbook to use as guide if you are helping a friend, loved one or parent.
