Class Schedules have been received from the printer and are on sale at the Bookstore at 40(t each, plus tax. Following the Thanksgiving holiday. Advisement for students will be held Monday through Friday, December 1 through 5, for the Winter Term. December 5 is the last day of classes of the Fall Term. Final exams will be held December 8, 9 and 10. On Monday, December 10, the Fall Term will officially end. CHAMBER ORCHESTRA TO PERFORM WITH OBOE SOLOIST NOVEI^IBER 30 Registration packets for the Winter Term become available December 1. * * Continuing with the second in its holiday season of Sunday oonoerts, the Music D^^artment tarings the Chaitiber Orchestra, conducted by Richard Saylor, Professor of Music, in a Sunday performance, November 30. Featuring Rachel J\:55e, oboist, the orchestra will present Geminiani*s "Concerto Grosso in d," Wilder's "Ctooe Concerto," Dello Joio's "Meditations on Ecclesiastes" and Vivaldi's "Concerto for Four Violins." The program is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in PS-10. Children and students with school or college identification cards will be admitted free. Admission charge is $1.50. HOW TO MAKE HOLIDAY GREETINGS MEAN MORE The self-perpetuating scholarship fund of the Cal State Faculty Wives Club is responsible for awards of scholarships to CSCSB students totaling $200 or more annually. The club mainly finances its scholarship fund by a unique joint exchange of holiday greetings by colleagues of the College, instead of sending individual greeting cards to each friend. To participate, all staff, faculty and students are invited to send checks in care of Ruth Roberts, 3436 N. Fairfax Dr., San Bernardino ( ) or via Bob Roberts, Dept. of History, AD-127, payable to the Cal State Faculty Wives Scholarship Fund.before December 15. Donations received on or before that date will ensure that names of honors will be included in the holiday greetings sent to all contributors and that donations will be included in this year's addition to the scholarship fund. ii ;V it SMOKE ALERTS TWO STUDENTS TO DANGER hap, last Wednesday. Department, are credited with quick-thinking and perhaps forestalling what might have been a serious mis- The two students, enroute via the freight elevator to the Fifth Floor of the Library, noticed smoke pouring into the elevator and the Fifth Floor area which was enveloped in smoke. They set off the fire alarm, saw to the evacuation of students from the study cubicles and then set about retrieving the audio-visual equipment they originally had been sent to pick up. The alarm alerted the students and staff in the Library, who left the building. Eleven firemen and three fire engines arrived at the scene. 4 FRANCES BERDAN Frances Berdan, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, has AWAROED PH.D. received notice from the University of Texas, Austin, that she has ccrpleted all requirements for the Ph,D. in Anthropology as of November 14, Dr. Berdan, vto joined the College in 1973, holds B.A. and M.A. degrees frctn Michigan State University. Her dissertation was on "Trade, Tribute and Market in the Aztec Ehpire." CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE Three statewide conferences will be held by the CSUCS SPONSORS CSUC HEALTH MANPOWER CONFERENCES for each of several health-related fields. this academic year as part of the Health Manpower Education Project. They will include a conference between the campuses and clinical/educational affiliates Amer El-Ahraf, Chairman of Health Science and Human Ecology, will be actively involved in the planning and conduct of the conferences. LEARNING LAB-ASB TO A holiday open house sponsored jointly by the Learning HOLD OPEN HOUSE DEC.2 Center and ASB, will bring together the campus Tuesday, December 2. Planned as a get-together, get-acquainted festivity, the Learning Center staff hopes to also acquaint their guests with the facilities of the Center. All faculty, students and staff are invited. Brown, Jr., to serve on the Academy Nominating Advisory Committee for the three military academies. Robert Senour (Audio-Visual) was invited to serve on the Legal Compliance Committee by the State Of California Dept. of Education. Richard Acklev (Academic Administration) spoke on the topic **Rationale for American Security Commitments" at the San Bernardino Kiwanis Club meeting on November 5* Nikolai Khokhlov (Psychology) was the key speaker at the luncheon conference for the Annual Convention of Modern and Classical Language Assn. of Calif, on November 15 in long Beach. In the address he analyzed the field of languages in terms of meanings rather than words and related this to the problems of detente. Joe Moran (Art) spoke to a Chicano studies class at Eisenhower High Schooli Nov. 19 on "The Chicano Artist." Mr. Moran also spoke to an art class at Cajon High School on "Printmaking," Oct. 31- Ctu-istopher O'Hare (Psychology) spoke,to the San Bernardino County Probation. Sept. on "Counseling with the Probationer," Nov. 17* at the Civic Center Building. Michael Rose (Relations with Schools) participated in a panel presentation on college "Publications and Publication Services" for the 1975 Pacific Assn. of College Registrars & Admissions Officers Convention at Fresno on Nov. 4. He also spoke on the need for colleges to develop better pre-admission information and student counseling programs. PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION Peter Graves (Administration) is co-author with two colleagues from Brigham Young University of a paper presented in November, 1975 at the annual meeting of the Psychonomic Society in Denver, Colorado, The paper is entitled, "Experimentation in Social-Personality Research." Mireille Rydell (French) will present a paper, "Forerunners of Feminism in Medieval France," at the Women's Literature section of the Convention of the Philological Assn. of the Pacific Coast, Nov at San Jose State U. Mitzi Meyers (English) will read a paper on "Women in Literary-Biography," at the same section of the convention. James Pierson (Anthropology) has been requested by the Division of Fellowships of the National Endowment for the Hiunanitites to serve on a panel to review applications for the NEH's Fellowships in Residence for College Teachers program in Anthropology.
