1 October 30, 2017 Jacket News #11 Come Visit Alvin High School Would you like to know what your student s day is like at AHS? We would like to invite you to visit and tour our campus. We will be hosting campus visits and tours every Wednesday with tours starting at 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. If you are interested, please call Ms. Kreft at to sign up for a day and time that works best for your schedule. Jacket Academy Peer Tutorials Beginning Tuesday, October 31 st, tutorials will be available after school in the library on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 3:30 pm until 6:30 pm. We will have student tutors available for peer tutorials in all subjects. These tutorial times are being offered during extended hours to help students that have been absent due to an illness or school function to get caught up on their assignments, for retesting, or if a student needs extra time to complete an assignment a teacher might have them complete it in Jacket Academy Peer Tutorials. Students will sign in and out each time they are there. Breakfast and Lunch FREE breakfast and lunch has been extended through October 31 st for all Alvin ISD students. Please encourage your child to participate. Socktober What is Socktober? A month long new sock collection sponsored by Rho Kappa. Homerooms will be the collection point for new socks throughout the month of October. Donations of new adult and kids socks will be for the Harvey families who lost everything in the flood. The winning homeroom will have a sock-hopping breakfast provided by Dr. B. Yearbooks and Senior Ads Buy a yearbook now and save money. Yearbooks are on sale for a discounted price until October 31 st. Order your yearbook or place your senior ad in the yearbook now. Click Here Underclassmen Retake Pictures Retake pictures for underclassmen will be on November 1 st in the LGI. Football Tickets Please come by to see Barbara LeBlanc at the Alvin High School athletics office for all varsity football game tickets, both home and away. Hours are 8-12 and 1-4 Monday-Thursday. Friday 8-1. She will also be in the cafeteria during power hour (12-1) on Wednesday and Thursday. Sienna Flores will be sell during power hour on Fridays. Ticket prices are: GENERAL ADMISSION: $4 for students and $6 for adults RESERVED: $6 for all. All tickets at the gate are $8. 3 Around The Campus English 3 classes are working to solve the mystery of who stole Dr. Briseño s golf cart, using text evidence and inferencing skills. Congrats to our AHS Band for their Sweepstakes at the UIL Region 17 Marching Contest! Sting em! Alvin ISD recognizes National Merit Scholars from Alvin, Manvel, and Shadow Creek High Schools h t t p : Alvin HS will have 14 students representing our school at the Region Concert on November 11 th at Santa Fe HS. Ben Miller (6 th Chair), Mackenzie Savage (11 th Chair) and Noah Bartley (2 nd Chair) were selected for the Region Mixed Choir and will advance to the Pre-Area Audition. Trenton Barlow and his Grand Champion Steer and Kyler Mentzel with his 1 st place Hog at the Alvin ISD Livestock Show. Congratulations to all the students competing!
