1 OSU EXTENSION OTTAWA COUNTY Ottawa County 4-H Family Newsletter Edition 4-H Super Saturday Join us as we kick off the 2019 year at 4-H Super Saturday! The event is free to all 4-H volunteers, families and potential members. Super Saturday will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 9am to noon at Trinity UCC in Elliston. Sessions and activities will include: 4-H volunteer & youth recognition Break-out sessions to include: What s New in 2019, 4-H Member Fun (Cloverbud & Older Youth members), Club Finances & Record Keeping, Are YOUth Interview Ready?, Showmanship Basics, Grief & Loss, horses, and more-session descriptions to come. Livestock Quality Assurance & Policy 1.50 training A continental breakfast will be provided Each youth will receive a voucher for one 4-H project book FREE for 2019 only if they RSVP to the event. 2 The 2019 Ohio 4-H Conference will take place at the Greater Columbus Convention Center on Saturday, March 9, This event is designed to bring together 4-H volunteers and teens from across the State of Ohio. The objective of this event is to learn together and from each other in order to improve our abilities to deliver the Ohio 4-H Program to its members. We truly believe that these educational selections offer something for everyone, and have the ability to satisfy every taste and need. There will be nearly 150 sessions with varying topics to choose from. If you are interested in attending, please return the registration form to the Extension Office by Monday, February 4 th. Sessions are on a first come, first served basis so it is important that we receive your registration on time. Registration fees will be paid for by the Ottawa County 4-H Committee.. Seniors in high school are busy looking ahead and making plans for their future. If college is something that is in the plans of these seniors, we have something that will help them. The following scholarships are available to 4-H members in our county: Ohio 4-H Week The 2019 Ohio 4-H Week will be observed statewide, March 3 9. We encourage you to show your 4-H pride by showcasing and showing individuals your pins, projects, awards and t- shirts. 4-H promotional supplies are available to display in your school or community. If you are interested, please contact the Extension Office. College Scholarships Ottawa County 4-H sponsors two $500 scholarships Cultivate the Clover of Ottawa County one $1000 scholarship Earl Johnson one $1000 scholarship & Marilyn Bloom-Mohr one $500 Jr. Leadership Club sponsors two scholarships, one for $750 and one for $500 Carteens sponsors two $250 scholarships 4-H Horse Advisory sponsors two $250 scholarships Ottawa County Agriculture Community Breakfast Committee offers scholarships with allotment dependent on donations to scholarship fund. Applications will be posted on February 1st on our website; We strongly encourage seniors in high school to complete them. Please be aware of the criteria and the deadline for applications is March 1! If you have any questions, let us know. Good luck!
3 Cultivate the Clover of Ottawa County Dinner & Auction The 2018 Cultivate the Clover of Ottawa County Dinner & Auction took place on Saturday, October 27 th at Camp Perry. They were able to raise funds to support 4-H programming efforts in Ottawa County. Thank you to Cultivate the Clover, Ottawa County 4-H Advisory Committee and the Ottawa County 4-H Endowment Committee. Below are the scholarship recipients that were recognized during the event: Earl Johnson Scholarship Garrett Gresh Marilyn Bloom-Mohr Scholarship Abby David 4-H Advisory Committee Abby David & Garrett Gresh Save the Date! Think warm think 4-H Camp! With the temperatures dropping, let thoughts and memories of 4-H summer camp help to warm you up! We have set the dates for our 2019 Summer Camping Program. Cloverbud Camp 4-H Junior Camp June 10-11, 2019 June 17-21, 2019 Camp Sabroske Kelleys Island **The registration forms will be available in April. Cost of camp TBD** 4-H Junior Leadership Caroline Kreutzfeld & Abby David 4-H CARTEENS Caroline Kreutzfeld & Abby David Thank you to those who attended and donated to make the evening a success. The dinner & auction will take place on October 26, 2019! Save the Date! Cloverbud Camp Volunteers Our Cloverbud Camp has had huge success over the past few years and continues to grow! Last year we had 82 campers at Camp Sabroske for 2 fun-filled days! We are looking for adult volunteers to help with our Cloverbud Camp, including anyone who is a lifeguard. You can volunteer for either one day or both days. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. The 2019 Cloverbud Camp is scheduled for June 10 &11 at Camp Sabroske in Oak Harbor. Our Cloverbud Counselors train February through June. As a Cloverbud Staff member you are encouraged to attend trainings, but not required. For more information, or if you are interested in helping with Cloverbud Camp, please contact Melissa at the Extension Office at
4 Buckeye Leadership Workshop is a learning, sharing workshop intended as a balanced program of social, physical, mental & spiritual activities. We believe that Buckeye Leadership Workshop provides a powerful learning environment in which anyone who works with people, professionally or informally, can develop programming for youth or adults. The workshop also benefits those who simply enjoy associating with great people, experiencing new ideas, and learning new skills. Experiential learning through recreation is truly the intent and methodology of Buckeye Leadership Workshop. This year the BLW is a 5-day seminar that will be held March 20-24, 2019 in Ashley, Ohio. The cost is $350 (with the 4-H Advisory Committee paying 2/3 s to first time attendees) if paid on or before February 20 th or $375 after February 20 th. 4-H members who are 15 years old (or a freshman in high school) or older (including adults!) are encouraged to attend. Full-time participation from Wednesday evening until Sunday at 4:00 p.m. is required. Call the office for more information or visit: Attention Teens Join us for Junior Leadership! Be a leader and help out where needed at various county events. Learn leadership skills. Meet new friends. Teens are welcomed into a group with flexible time commitments. You are busy but you want to do something important. J-L is for you! Meetings are held the first Monday of the month at the Extension Office. 8 Money Management Incentive sponsored by Ag Credit Monetary awards for first, second, and third place will be given at the awards ceremony during the county fair. To qualify, you must enroll in and complete a money management project and place first, second, or third.
