1 Page 1 of 10 Alumni E-Newsletter December 2014 NEW MASTERS OF ARTS IN CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION Produced by University Relations The Evelyn Reid Syphax School of Education, Psychology, and Interdisciplinary Studies will offer a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction, starting in the spring semester of The 36-hour degree program is designed for completion in 18 to 24 months. The program offers three emphasis areas, including Elementary Education, Special Education, and Urban Education. "We need teacher leaders and problem solvers," said Dr. Joy Lawson Davis, Associate Professor and Chair of Teacher Education at Virginia Union. "This program is designed to prepare persons to lead teachers as instructional coaches or to pursue additional work as school administrators." The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) recently continued the national accreditation of Virginia Union's Teacher Education Program and the Southern Association of Colleges (SACS) has approved the new graduate program. This is Virginia Union's first graduate degree offered outside of the university's Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, which offers a Master of Arts in Christian Education, a Master of Divinity, and a Doctor of Ministry. Virginia Union also offers a teacher licensure weekend college, designed for persons who need to complete teacher licensure requirements in the state of Virginia.

In addition to the CIAA Cross-Country Championship, VUU placed five men's runners on the All-CIAA Cross-Country Team, a feat which hadn't been accomplished in 20 years. VUU's VUU's Donovan Mundy, Franck Charles, Emmanuel Nelfrard, Luis Neives and DeAndre Horton were all named to the All-CIAA Team. VUU also placed a volleyball player on the CIAA All-Tournament Team for the first time in almost 10 years when Kristin Madison was named to the team on Sunday, November 16. In football, Virginia Union placed several members on the All-CIAA Team. Virginia Union University's Charles Davis III, Addison Hayes, Jussie York, Joseph Blanks, Troy Krepich, Donte Gross and Trevin Gordon were all named to their respective All-CIAA teams, with Gordon being named the CIAA Defensive Rookie of the Year...
