2 Parents Leadership Council Another spring semester is drawing to a close. The students have been working hard all year and now are in their final weeks of study and preparation for finals. It has been a great year. Our students have been a part of exciting sports championships, impressive undergraduate research projects, and phenomenal artistic endeavors, all while focusing on their studies and learning. Albright College has always emphasized learning inside and outside of the classroom, and this year is no exception. It is at this time of the year that our senior students prepare for graduation. As it approaches, I hope everyone will take a moment to reflect on the past years and, of course, prepare and plan for the years ahead with excitement and anticipation. We wish all of our graduating students well! I am sure that many of the seniors and their parents will agree that the years have flown by! As a parent of an Albright student, I know many of you have had the pleasure of watching your student learn and grow into a mature young person while working hard to pursue their academic goals. I have thoroughly enjoyed this experience and would like to offer you the same unique opportunity to get involved at Albright. It is the culmination of years of hard work and represents the beginning of each graduate s next chapter. As these final weeks of the semester wind down, we know the pride you feel for your graduating senior is only growing. Before the big day rolls around, we wanted to share some important information with our Albright families. Each year, as the senior class embarks on its last semester, the class holds a gift drive to raise funds for their soon-to-be alma mater. This year, the Class of 2017 has decided to focus on increasing class participation and remembering their classmates Derek Mitchell and Matt Rein. No matter how big or small the gift, the Class of 2017 hopes that every class member will participate. Members of the Class of 2017 who give gifts of $100 or more are also eligible for membership in the President s Council for Young Alumni. 5 Housing Selection for Academic Year Housing selection will take place in-person on May 1, 2 and 4. Note that students must register for classes prior to housing selection. As long as students are registered for fall courses and have filled out an online housing application (to be completed April 5-22), they will receive a selection number for use in housing selection. Please remember that Albright College has a new four-year residency requirement and individuals with prior approval to live off campus will not have to go through housing selection. Individuals who have applied for and were granted an affinity house do not have to go through housing selection. Housing selection will occur as follows: May 1 Singles and triples lottery and sign back for the Woods, Mohn Hall and Albright Court. Selection will also be open for rooms in the brand new Rockland Housing. May 2 Senior (Class of 2018) selection May 4 Junior (Class of 2019) and Sophomore (Class of 2020) selection If you or your student has questions about the new housing policy, please contact Tim Moran, director of residential life, at tmoran@albright.edu. If you or your student has questions about the housing selection process, please contact Amanda Higginbotham, assistant director of residential life, at ahigginbotham@albright.edu. Residence Hall Closing Information All residential students will receive detailed close-down information in early May. Closing will begin on May 10. Non-graduating students are to be checked out of the residence hall no more than 24 hours after their last exam. Parents should be aware of the following dates and times: Tuesday, May 16, 6 p.m. Residence halls close for undergraduate students Sunday, May 21, 6 p.m. Residence halls close for graduating seniors Students must reserve a time with a resident assistant to complete a final check-out of their room or must complete an express check-out form. At this time, the room should be empty of all personal items and debris so that it can be inspected for any damages. Experiential Learning and Career Development Center The Experiential Learning and Career Development Center is ready to assist all Albrightians with their career development needs, even after graduation. All services available to current students are also available to alumni, free of charge. We can assist with everything from critiquing resumes and searching employment opportunities to researching and applying to graduate school. Valuable resources on all of these topics can be found at wwww.albright.edu/elcdc and Albright parents have the opportunity to share career knowledge, expertise and insights with students by becoming mentors. As a mentor, you can provide any or all of the following services: conduct informational interviews or network with students via phone, or in person; provide a shadowing opportunity; help students practice the art of interviewing through mock interviews; provide resume/cover letter critiques; and much more! Each semester, ELCDC hosts a variety of programs including alumni panel discussions, networking events and more. If you are interested in assisting in an upcoming program or in being a mentor, please contact us to learn more. You can also assist our students by posting full-time, part-time, seasonal or internship opportunities, which provide career-related work experience for an Albright student during the school year, January Interim or over the summer.
