Editor Laine Martin Extension Educator, 4-H & Youth Development 4-H Day at the Capital Oklahoma 4-H members will once again have the opportunity to meet with their legislators and discuss the impact 4-H is having on them and their communities. The youth who attend also get the opportunity to tour the capital and learn more about the government process in Oklahoma. They also get to visit the House and Senate Floor. The H Day at the Capitol will be held Wednesday, April 6th. Kingfisher County will need one individual over the age of 14 to represent us this year. Please let Laine know if you are interested in being that representative this year. State Record Books Eligibility: A 4-H member must be 14 years of age and not passed his or her 18th birthday by January 1 of the program year in which they enter project and/or special program (record) books. Members may enter up to two Level I State Projects. A 4-H member may be named the state winner in only one Level I Project during his/ her 4-H Career. 4-H members who have been named the state winner in a Level I Project are eligible to compete in Level II projects. A 4-H member may be named the state winner in only one Level II project during his/her 4-H Career. A former 4-H member may receive only one Level IV scholarship per year, but may reapply for all they are eligible for in following years. A 4-H member who has not been named the state project winner in his/ her project may enter a record book in that project for more than one year provided that all eligibility criteria are met. A 4-H member applying for State 4-H Hall of Fame must be at least 16 as of January 1 of the year applying. A 4-H member may apply for State 4-H Hall of Fame until they have reached 19. Deadlines: State 4-H Record Books are due to the Kingfisher County OSU Extension Office in April. Interviews will be held June 8th in Stillwater. Please contact the OSU Extension Center for more information or for help on your book. Out of State Trip Citizenship Washington Focus Citizenship Washington Focus is a 4-H leadership program for high school youth. For seven weeks of the summer, delegations of year-olds from across the country attend this 6 day program at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center, located just outside Washington, D.C. The program is aimed at enriching young people's lives by broadening their appreciation and respect for themselves and others in the world. Participants attend workshops, committees, field trips and social events, giving them hands-on opportunities to learn and grow. Participants learn and practice skills that will make them better citizens and more successful individuals. Transmittal forms and total payment are due to the State 4-H Office by February 26, 2016 State Ambassador Are you wanting to improve 4-H visibility, maintain relations with 4-H Alumni/ Donors, or tell the 4-H story? If so, you should consider becoming a State 4-H Ambassador! Applications are due March 1st. Contact Laine at the Extension office to learn more Pickens Scholarships Scholarships for graduating seniors or full time college students. Over $12,000 worth being awarded. Applications due in state office by February 8th.

3 Kingfisher County Junior Livestock Show The County Stock Show will be Feb Only market steers are required to be nominated for the OK Youth Expo in order to be eligible to show at Kingfisher County 4-H Junior Livestock Show. Swine must either be OK Youth Expo nominated or have pseudo rabies papers dated by Dec 11, Some rules to remember: (For complete set of rules call the office.) No fitters allowed to work on animals at the show. Minimum weight for hogs lowered to 170 lbs. A substitute showman must be an exhibitor of that species to be eligible to show for showmanship. Substitute showmen must be an exhibitor at the Livestock Show. Animals in the showmanship class must be an entry. Show schedule SATURDAY - FEB. 13, :00 P.M. - All animals in place 1:00 P.M. - Weigh in of Swine, Beef, Sheep, and Goats. Sheep weigh in after Goat weigh in. SUNDAY - FEB. 14, :00 P.M. - Judging of Beef Division 5:00 P.M. - Judging of Goat Division MONDAY - FEB :00 A.M. - Judging of Swine Division 3:00 P.M. - Judging of Sheep Division MONDAY, FEB. 22, :30 P.M. - Bidders Feed Kingfisher County Fairgrounds Exhibit Bldg. 6:30 P.M. - Premium Auction Exhibit Building Each species will be released at the conclusion of each species show. Oklahoma Science Museum Bright Night The Oklahoma 4-H Bright Nights (formerly known as the science museum camp-in) will be held February 19-20, Registration is due February 1st to the office. The Oklahoma Science Museum Camp-In has a been a terrific opportunity to introduce 4-H members to science in a fun, interactive, and exciting manner. Price: $45 for kids 5 and up, $25 per adult Theme: Star Wars Includes the new exhibit CurioCity, Planetarium, Science Live show, Science Activity Tables and fun filled evening exploring the Science Museum. Dress as your favorite Jedi Knight and jump to hyperspace as you head to a galaxy far, far away. Join SMO as we go deep into the science of light sabers and explore the forces of both Isaac Newton and Yoda! May the Forces be with you! The science museum program is perfect for 9-12 year old youth, but every age seems to enjoy the evening. Since this is a noncompetitive event, feel free to bring younger or older youth, brothers, sisters, cousins, even those really big kids (parents and chaperones) to enjoy an evening filled with science and fun. Families are always welcome to participate. Please contact the office no later than January 20th to sign up. The 4-H Parents & Leaders Council will meet on February 2nd at 6 p.m. in the Extension Meeting Room in the courthouse annex. All parents and volunteers are encouraged to attend. 5 Kids Helping Kids Kids Helping Kids is a service project/fundraiser for Oklahoma 4-H and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oklahoma City, a nonprofit organization that provides a home away from home for families with very ill or injured kids who are receiving medical treatment in the Oklahoma City area. This great project is the longest-running fundraiser in Oklahoma 4-H history! In the campaign, you will ask for monetary donations for the House. For every donation given, you ll give the donors a coupon from our invaluable partners, Dr. Pepper and the McDonald s restaurants of Oklahoma. Since the campaign began 29 years ago, 4-H ers like you have raised more than $830,000 to help their clubs and families facing crises worse than most of us could imagine! Kingfisher County Clubs need to register with me no later than December 14th. For more information about this campaign, contact Laine at or laine.martin@okstate.edu. The role of the Ambassador is to be a messenger from Kingfisher County. They are expected to be role models in 4-H and be active and visible in the county. The Ambassadors are going on their 18 th year this year. Any youth that are in the seventh grade or above are welcome to attend a meeting or call the extension office at to see what the Ambassadors are all about.
