1 Fall Vol. 3 THELEGES LEDGER UMass-Amherst Third Semester Colony founded by seventeen young men on a mission to better themselves and create a memorable college experience. The Legend Grows ALUMNI SECRETARY S NOTE: THE SECOND YEAR IN THIS COLONY S EXPANSION IS WELL UNDERWAY AND WE ARE EXCITED TO TELL YOU ALL ABOUT IT! The Fall semester is has pasted and now we re looking forward to the Spring.This semester has been a huge success with the incorporation of our Beta Class. We ve made a lot of progress in our growth and we re hoping to share some of that with all of you UMass Delta Chi brothers. The Alumni tailgate at homecoming was a just a great afternoon with good food and good friends. We made some new friends with some new alumni brothers who stopped by. We re looking forward to seeing more alumni at next year s homecoming game, more info to come in future newsletters. We had our Beta Class initiation this fall welcoming 7 new brothers into the bond of Delta Chi. The ceremony took place on Walpole, MA during a snow storm. It was an unforgettable night and we hope, next semester, to share the memories with all of you alumni at the Gamma Class initiation. DChi social life has been sky rocketing here on campus. We have had socials this year with Sigma Delta Tau, Iota Gamma Upsilon, Chi Omega, and Kappa Kappa Gamma. Sigma Kappa and Alpha Chi Omega are also interested in getting together with us. We re excited to tell you all that we have recovered 14 composites and 22 paddles from back in the day. It is great to finally get some history back for us to admire and share with you all. The memorable composites and paddles span from the original 1969 class all the way to the late 1990 s. We d love to share them with all of you at events and especially the Gamma initiation. We are currently looking at a house on Philips Street where brothers will live in the fall of This will be considered the new Delta Chi house and as soon as the paper work has been signed and it becomes official we will let you know the address so you can all drop by. All of the composites and paddles will be displayed in the house, so you will all be able to look through them. Hopefully we have something from your class! 3 Alumni Tailgate: On October 17, 2009 the UMass Minutemen played the University of New Hampshire in the homecoming football game where the Minutemen won It was a great fall day to share with and alumni. Ira Kligerman, Bob Berns, Tom Simpson, Guy Morrin, Jeffrey Manning, and Ben Garvey were all in attendance at the event along with 7 associate members and 23 brothers of the UMass Colony. It was great to hear about the old chapter, to hear about the house, and to hear that alumni want to get involved to help us out. All the alumni that were in attendance can tell you it was a great time and a lot of them were glad to see Delta Chi back on campus. The afternoon went by with burgers, dogs, and beers; a perfect way to kick back with alum and hear some old stories. Thank you to all of you who came. Umass Delta Chi will be holding this tailgate annually and it will always be on homecoming weekend. By all means please stop by if you re free! Bring the family and have some fun with brothers new and old. It s always fun to remember to crazy days of college with the brothers you shared them with, and we always enjoy hearing about the crazy kid who did that not so mentionable thing, haha. In all seriousness though we d love to see you all down here and we ll keep you posted in future newsletters of date,time, and place of next year s BBQ. See you there! 4 INITIATION 7 is the Magic Number! Congratulations Beta Class!!! We are all very proud of you! Beta Class Initiation: On December 5, 2009 in Walpole, MA the UMass Colony initiated 7 young men into the brotherhood of Delta Chi. Zachary Durrand, Kevin Carifio, Philip Schweiger, Joshua Brown, Julian Pinto, Nick Allain, and Andrew Fang all became brothers that night. Alex Chan was also at initiation and we send a special thanks to him for baring through a tough trip through the snow. Afterwards we spent the night celebrating. We had a reception for alumni and the brothers back at one of the brother s local houses. The catering was amazing and everyone was excited to talk about the initiation and welcome the new brothers. We are all very proud of these young men and look forward to what they will bring to the fraternity. The Gamma Class initiation will be on April 17, Location and Time have not been decided yet but we will send out an as soon as we find out more details. We look forward to seeing you next semester! Fall Formal: On December 11, 2009 we held our second formal as a colony. We had close to 30 brothers with their dates in attendance at the event. We had music, food, and some beautiful women, which is always nice. There were many great memories that night whether it was Stephen Zipp s date trying to dance on a table, to watching some of the brothers attempt to dance, myself included. c Awards were also given out at the formal. The Hulk Award went to the brother who you would never want to see mad- Joshua Evans. Congratulations to Darrell McTague who won the distinguished Brother of the Fall award. Darrell joined the Executive Board late in the semester after raising over $3,000 as our fundraising chairman. A well deserved award after a stellar performance this semester.
