Allowing for playground use & a chance for entering Coffin Kindergarten students a chance to familiarize with the school The Brunswick Parks and Recreation Department is offering a summer Mini-Camp for preschool age children at Coffin School. The site is staffed with a caring, enthusiastic adult teacher and teachers assistant(s). Preschool Mini-Camp is for children who are ages 3 to 5 by the start of camp (your child must be toilet trained). A valid birth certificate is required to verify child s age. Activities will include arts and crafts, songs, games, playground, stories, nature activities, etc. Two sessions will be held. Each session will run for three weeks on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays, from 9:00-11:30 a.m. There is a limit of 20 children per session. This program fills quickly!! (Levels I, II & III) Children with previous experience will be placed in the class offering the next higher level of instruction. Children wishing to enroll in Levels II & III must show the ability to pass all required skills of the previous level. Classes are held Monday through Friday morning from 9:00 to 9:50 a.m. for two consecutive weeks. Class size is limited, so register early. Coffin Pond is an outdoor swimming facility and has a separate shallow area for beginner instruction. The lessons are open to all Brunswick and area children ages 4 14 as of the start of the program. 7 Brunswick Parks & Recreation Department KIDS ON THE FIELD K, 1 ST & 2 ND GRADE COED INSTRUCTIONAL BASEBALL/SOFTBALL The first three nights the whole group will be introduced to and practice fundamental skills of the game. The group will then be split into five rotating stations, where kids will work on throwing, catching, running the bases, defense and batting. Each night we will repeat the same format with time spent teaching the kids the various positions and terms of the sport, gradually teaching the kids what they need to be able to play a game starting on the fourth night. The games will be very controlled, providing a safe, positive learning experience to all players. IMPORTANT-We need MANY volunteers to help provide a safe, successful program. Please volunteer, no previous baseball or softball experience is necessary. We will provide all the guidance the volunteers need! Participate in track meets, develop skills and have fun! Emphasis will be placed on developing and improving technique and performance in different events (i.e., sprints, distance runs, relays, hurdles, long & high jumps, shot put, discus, race walking & turbo javelin) Children are encouraged to participate in different events according to their age, interest and ability. This year practices will be held on Mondays & Tuesdays at the Brunswick High School track, beginning June 18 th through August 11 th. Led by second year track coach Catherine Schofield! Adult and student volunteers are welcome and needed to assist track staff. On Thursdays, children may participate in organized track meets that compete at Poland or Edward Little. Bus transportation will be provided. All meets start at 11am unless noted. At Poland: June 28th and July 26 th ; Edward Little: July 5th TBD July 12 th ; At Lisbon High School: July 19 th. All dates are subject to change (2018 schedule of meets not finalized yet). The registration fee covers the cost of a track shirt, membership in U.S.A. The Dragon Basketball Camp will run on Monday, July 9 th through Thursday, July 12 th from 9am to 3pm each day, Friday July 13 th will run 9am- 1pm (no after care Friday) There will be before and after care available for an extra fee from 8-9am( Mon-Fri) and 3-4pm( Monday- What to bring: Sneakers, several t-shirts to change during the day, bag lunch each day, water, and snacks. 10 BRUNSWICK PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT Summer 2018 Dragons GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP Lead by Sam Farrell, Head Coach - Brunswick High School Varsity Girls Basketball Entering grades 3 through 8 Brunswick High School Gymnasium Sam Farrell, Head Coach of the Brunswick High School Varsity Girls Basketball program, will be leading our Summer Basketball Camp for girls entering Grades 3 8. Coach Farrell has been coaching basketball for the last 17 years (13 years at the varsity level, Undefeated Regular Season in season). Emphasis will be on skill development, fundamentals, games and having fun. Join Coach Farrell to improve your game over the summer!
