This is a 25% increase over last year's registration. Only three classes, the least amount ever, were cancelled due to low enrollment, Fred Roach, Dean of Continuing Education, states that registration will continue up until the beginning of the last one-week class, August 6, including three-week courses beginning July 9,and 30 and short courses on July 9, 16, 23,30 and August 6. NEW LIBERAL STUDIES B.A. DEGREE AND RECREATION MINOR AVAILABLE IN The Office of the Chancellor has approved a degree program in Liberal Studies, which will be offered by the College, effective with the academic year. The new multidisciplinary bachelor's degree program was developed for students whose needs or interests are for a more broadly based liberal arts curriculum than is possible through existing disciplines. Although the program will be open to all students, it should prove of particular value to students who plan to enter the elementary teaching field. On June 11 word was received from the Office of Academic Program and Resource Planning of the CSUC that the College will be able to offer a minor in Recreation, also beginning with the forthcoming academic year. This program should be of particular interest to current and prospective elementary and secondary school teachers as it will provide a background for students in recreation and leisure studies and prepare them for employment in the areas of recreation leadership and programming, k ie * NEW PARKING DECALS The parking permit decals will be issued TO BE ISSUED WITH with the June paychecks. Regular Manned Service The CSEA Scholarship Committee selected Libby Quinlan and David Alvarez, both part-time Physical Plant employees, to receive the two $50 awards for the academic year. Both Mr Alvarez and Mr. Quinlan completed work at Valley College this June. They plan on continuing their studies at UCR and CSCSB, respectively. SUMMER HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ON CAMPUS FOR WORK, STUDY AND PLAY Friday, July 6, "From Here to Eternity," stars Burt Lancaster, Frank Sinatra, Deb I I orah Kerr, Montgomery Clift, PS-10 8 p.m Tuesday, July 10, "I've Got a Dream," about Martin Luther King, PS-10, 12 noon and 7 p.m. Twenty one high school students from the San Bernardino Unified School District are on campus for a nine-week job training, study and recreation program. This is the fourth consecutive year for the College's participation with Operation Second Chance, the Neighborhood Youth Corps and the local school district which brings high school students onto campus where they work in various departments in the morning and attend class and enjoy swimming and other recreation in the afternoon. During the last three weeks the schedule will be modified somewhat to include a drama workshop. Jesse Moses, E.G.P., is campus coordinator and Fred Roach worked

4 ' Nancy R. Brown, daughter of Herb Brown (Physical Plant) was selected as valedictorian of the Eisenhower High School graduating class. A member of the G.A.A., she was selected as the Most Valuable Player in volleyball and as the Outstanding Senior Girl Athlete, She also was selected by the graduating class as the Most Intellectual, Most Athletic, and Most Likely to Succeed and was recipient of the State of California Governor's Scholastic Award. Kurt Kalbus, son of Dr. Lee Kalbus (Chemistry) graduated with highest honors and as valedictorian from Cajon High School, He has been attending CSCSB for the past two years under a special program for high school students and has completed nearly 80 quarter units. He will continue at CSCSB as a mathematics major, Saroiam Mankau (Biology) has an article co-authored with student, Daniel Morse (Biology major), entitled "A Case of Incomplete Development of Hymenolepis Diminuta ova in a Tribolium Confusum Beetle" published in a forthcoming Tribolium Information Bulletin. James Murphy (Mathematics) gave a demonstration workshop of "Manipulative aids in Elementary School Mathematics" to teachers and teachers' aides of Crestmore School in Bloomington early this month, Dr. Mireille Rydell (French) was chosen to attend an international teaching workshop in Tours, France, sponsored by the French government which will be held during the month of July at the University of Tours, it it 1r 100 GIRL SCOUTS MAKE Southern California will be under siege by SERRANO VILLAGE BASE 100 Girl Scouts this week and through part FOR SO, CALIF, VISIT of July. The teenage invaders, from across the U.S.,will come to the CSCSB campus from a stay at the Riviera Hotel at Palm Springs where they have enjoyed the desert environment, most for the first time. Arriving on campus today, the scouts will make their headquarters at Serrano Village for a schedule that includes trips to Disneyland, beaches, mountains and other visitor attractions. The program bringing the sight-seers,"california Presents: Palms, Pines, People," is part of a national "Wider Opportunities." project. Theron Pace, Director of Housing, worked with the Girl Scout Council to make posible the Scouts' stay on campus. Their visit of the Southland ends July 11. INVENTORY.TIME-The Bookstore will be closed Monday, July 2, for inventory, SUMMER THEATRE The Summer Theatre Workshop Players, directed by William Slout, will PLAYERS TO BRING "THUNDER ROCK" present Robert Ardrey's 1939 play, "Thunder Rock," with production dates set for July 19, 20, 21; 26, 27, 28. All performances at 8:15 in the Little Theatre, Tickets go on sale next month.
