2 Presidential Message Dear Friends, On behalf of the Kentucky Association of Counties Board of Directors and staff, it is my pleasure to extend to you a personal invitation to attend the 40th Annual KACo Conference & Exposition November in Lexington. All of Kentucky s 120 counties play a key role in making this Commonwealth a better place to live, work and play. It is important that county officials are equipped with the information they need to make real and lasting changes in their communities. Attending the annual KACo conference results in better informed county officials, and provides opportunities to network and build working relationships with our fellow county officials and with others from state government. The KACo staff has put together an educational and entertaining agenda for you. Join us for what promises to be a rewarding opportunity to learn new and exciting things, share ideas and challenges with one another, and celebrate 40 years of KACo s service to Kentucky s counties. 3 Executive Director/CEO Message Dear Colleagues, The KACo staff and I wish to invite you to KACo s 40th Annual Conference & Exposition in Lexington November We are hopeful you will be able to join us as we celebrate 40 years of serving all Kentucky counties. Each year, the annual Conference provides county leaders the opportunity to discuss critical issues facing Kentucky counties, to learn from experts in various fields, and to network with our peers in an open and welcoming setting. This year is no different. We have a terrific series of workshops, speakers and programs lined up to explore solutions and share new approaches to the many issues we face daily. While we have a full agenda, we are also building in time for you to get to know one another. Networking with other local government leaders allows us to share our successes, our ideas and passions to build stronger communities and unify this Association. I hope you will take advantage of the many opportunities offered during the upcoming conference. 4 General Information CONFERENCE LOCATION All meetings and events will be held at the Lexington Convention Center located at 430 W. Vine Street, Lexington, KY TRAINING INCENTIVE 11.5 hours of HB 810 training credit to be requested. ATTENDEE REGISTRATION Complete the registration form attached to this mailer and submit to KACo or register online at There is no registration fee for spouses. EXHIBITOR REGISTRATION Online registration is open for those interested in participating as a vendor. Booth packages include a 10x10 booth, 8 high back drape with 3 high side drape; skirted table, 2 chairs, wastebasket, I.D. sign and one registration. To register, visit SPOUSE PROGRAM On Thursday, November 20th, spouses can spend a day of shopping at Fayette Mall. A shuttle will escort spouses from the Hyatt Hotel to Fayette Mall. The shuttle will leave the hotel beginning at 9:00 a.m. and upon every hour until 3:00 p.m. The shuttle will leave Fayette Mall hourly at 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Fayette Mall is a regional shopping mall in Lexington, Kentucky and is currently the largest mall in the state. Please let us know if your spouse plans to attend so that we may plan accordingly. Check the appropriate box located on the registration form attached to this mailer. 8 Confirmed Speakers Wednesday Greg Stumbo, Speaker of the House, will discuss issues for the 2015 Regular Session. He represents House District 95. He is a Floyd County native. Agriculture Commissioner James Comer will discuss The Next Generation of Kentucky Leaders. He is a former state representative from Monroe County, and a farmer. Senate President Robert Stivers, from Clay County, represents Senate District 25, comprised of Clay, Knox, Lee, Owsley, Whitley and Wolfe counties. He will provide a Senate update. Thursday Matt Chase, Executive Director of the National Association of Counties (NACo), will focus on the impact of major federal policy decisions on county government, including environmental regulations, tax reform, transportation bill rewrite and justice reform. Founded in 1935, NACo is the only national association representing America s 3,069 county governments. Friday U.S. Representative Thomas Massie entered Congress in November 2012 after serving as Lewis County judge/executive. He represents Kentucky s 4th Congressional District. Rep. Massie serves on the House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Dr. Rand Paul is the junior United States Senator for Kentucky. Elected in 2010, he serves on the Foreign Relations, Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, Homeland Security and Government Affairs, and Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committees. Before his election to the Senate, he was a practicing ophthalmologist in Warren County, Ky., for 17 years.
