This position is approximately 15 hours per week. Custodial experience preferred but not necessary. This year St. Mary's 9th, 11th, and 12th graders have the opportunity to participate in the Boyne USA Snow Sports Academy. This will be taking place on Thursday, January 18th, This will be an all-day event where students will leave school and not return till 6:30p.m. Those who plan to attend the Boyne Ski Trip, please have your permission slips and money ($35.00) turned in to the office no later than Wednesday January 10th. Thank you, Mrs. Neveau and Mrs. Glynn HS BPA competed on Saturday at Central Michigan University with a great showing from all of our students, with many qualifying for State Conference competition! Congrats to Audrey Alflen, Emma Bidoul, Alyssa Davis, Lindsey Fleis, Ciara Glynn, Margaret Gorcyca, Max Gorcyca, Shawn Grant, Livy Harnack, Grace McKillip, Shannon Popp, Alex Raptis, Emily Rice, Cece Schaub, Daniel Schaub, Olivia Schaub, Nathan Smith, Micah Thoreson, Reece VanderWulp, Breanna Weber & Nicole Wittman. Thank you Mrs. Korson for your dedication and hard work with our BPA Program! The St. Mary School Spelling Bee will take place on Thursday, January 25 th at 1:30 in the school cafeteria. Students in grades 5-8 can participate. All interested students should see Mrs. VanderWulp for a participation form and study materials. The county-wide Spelling Bee will also be held at St. Mary School on Wednesday, February 21 st in the evening. Watch for more details to come! The St. Mary School Talent Show will take place on Saturday, January 27 th and Monday, January 29 th. Stay tuned for more details as the dates approach. National Catholic Schools Week will kick off on Sunday January 28 th and run through Saturday, February 3 rd. Look forward to the Talent Show, an all School Mass, a Chili Supper, Faith First Friday, and more as we share the good news about Catholic education! 2 BASKETBALL PLAYERS AND ST. MARY STUDENTS: On January 14, 2018 the Knights of Columbus will be hosting their annual free throw contest. The event will be held in the main gym and starts at 1:00 pm. The gym will open at 12:30 pm. This is open to all St. Mary students ages 9-14 (please provide proof of age). Last year we had individuals that advanced to the state final round. Please remember to bring your gym shoes and to change out of your outdoor gear in the lobby or cafeteria. Registration forms will be in the bin of the athletic office door and find one attached here on page 4. Good luck and shoot straight! JV GIRLS AND JV BOYS PARENTS AND PLAYERS: Due to several of our opponents dropping their JV teams this season, your scheduled number of games has been reduced. Coach Szur is working to obtain additional games for you to play. Please stay tuned and ask your coach for updates in the next couple of weeks as games are likely to be added to your schedule. ELEMENTARY BOYS BASKETBALL: Games will begin this week. We are in NEED of a coach for the 3 rd /4 th grade team. Please contact Teresa if you are willing to assist in this manner. athletics@stmarysll.org or The first game is on Jan. 13 th and game schedules will be passed out for the season mid-week. A couple of our league participants had snow days and needed until the Jan. 8 th to confirm their team numbers. PRACTICE SCHEDULES: The January practice schedule is now online and copies are in the bin on the athletic door. If you did not receive a copy of the link for practices, please Teresa and she ll send it to you. The paper copies will not be updated with any changes from Jan. 4, 2018 forward. Changes will be made only to the online calendar. Also, the link you receive will contain all practice/game schedules in the future for all sports. New tabs for each month will be added to this Google document. Hopefully by having this information in one place will simplify things for everyone. Please be aware it is a working document. Michigan 4-H Capitol Experience is announced for April 15-18, 2018: This is a four-day conference held in Lansing that focuses on civic engagement and public policy and is open to all high school students in Michigan. The 4-H Outdoors Club would like to introduce community members of all ages to the wonders of the 4-H Johnson Preserve, and encourage outdoor adventure activities. SNOWSHOE! CAMPFIRE! WINTER ANIMAL TRACKING! DIG A QUINZEE! BE OUTSIDE! - Hot Dogs, Veggies, & Marshmallows for Roasting Provided - Bring your snowshoes (limited # to borrow), and water bottle. Join Michigan teens speaking out on the hot topics that matter to them in education, agriculture, health, crime, jobs, equality and the environment at MICHIGAN 4-H CAPITOL EXPERIENCE Michigan 4-H Capitol Experience April 15 18, H Capitol Experience is a four-day conference held in Lansing that focuses on civic engagement and public policy. The program is open to ALL high school students in Michigan. Each year, 75 to 100 students take action on issues that matter to them and learn how they can have an influence on state government and laws. After choosing current issue areas (options below), participants interact with legislators, tour Michigan s Capitol, meet with state agency staff, lobbyists and other state-level experts, discover how policy is made, and explore various careers in public policy. Recreation is included in the schedule. At the end of the conference, the teens leave with an understanding of the impact that their voice can have on policy and their communities now and in the future. Choose Your Issue Area Participants will choose their top three issue areas and will learn about one. They will work with other teens to draft a bill related to their issue and will go through a legislative simulation. Issue group choices include: Animal Agriculture Civil Rights Education Health Human Services Jobs & the Economy Law Enforcement Natural Resources & Environment Technology Location, Registration & Cost The Okemos Conference Center provides lodging for the program and also serves as the program headquarters. Tours and agency visits take place at the State Capitol, Michigan Supreme Court, and surrounding areas. $350 4-H members $370 Non members (Scholarships are available) The registration fee includes most meals, lodging and material fees.
