October 8 9, 2016 Our Challenge Dear friends, We re told in this weekend s Old Testament reading that Naaman was healed of his leprosy by doing as the prophet Elisha had instructed.

This expression of gratitude turned out to be more than enough for the prophet Elisha. The apostle Paul placed a great deal of importance on simply talking about matters of faith.

2 October 8 9, 2016 Our Challenge Dear friends, We re told in this weekend s Old Testament reading that Naaman was healed of his leprosy by doing as the prophet Elisha had instructed. He might have gone his way without so much as a thank you. Instead, he returned to Elisha s home and offered him a gift. This expression of gratitude turned out to be more than enough for the prophet Elisha. The apostle Paul placed a great deal of importance on simply talking about matters of faith. Those who confess their faith will share eternal glory with Christ. Those who deny their faith will be denied by him. Paul was wise enough to know that we talk about the things we care about. In our gospel passage this weekend that of the ten lepers only one returned to express his gratitude for being healed. This troubled Jesus, not because he wanted to be thanked, but because he knew that the other nine lepers needed to express their gratitude. Such expressions of gratitude create bonds of affection and deepen feelings of responsibility. We greatly underestimate the power of little things. The smallest gesture of kindness can lift another s burden. A simple thank you can warm a cold heart. A genuine I m sorry can turn a potential enemy into a genuine friend. Simple words and small deeds are often the most effective tools we have for transforming bad situations and healing broken relationships. Words matter. However, words that are only thought do not have the power of words that are actually spoken. The spoken word binds us to the feelings and promises expressed. Those spoken words also reach the hearts and minds of the people to whom they are addressed. Sometimes the little words are the hardest to get out of our mouths. We hold back for fear that people will reject our offers of love or our pleas for help. We need to say the things that need to be said before the opportunities to say them pass us by. Our energy and our strength come from our faith in things unseen. Faith brings light to the darkness in our souls. Faith pushes us forward into the mysterious unknown. Faith sustains us through times of failure. Faith challenges us to face our fears. Faith builds a bridge across the great gulf of death. Faith makes the discords of the present the harmonies of the future. Have a good week! Liturgical Ministers Schedule Link: THE SACRAMENTS RECONCILIATION Reconciliation is in the Church at 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays, from 7:30-8:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and on request immediately after the 6:00 a.m. Masses on Monday and Wednesday, or anytime by appointment with either priest. Please call the Church Office to schedule an appointment. FUNERALS Please contact the parish office prior to scheduling with the funeral home. If after hours, follow directions on voic . BAPTISM Please contact the parish office during early months of pregnancy. Baptismal preparation is required. SPONSORS Baptism & Confirmation sponsors must be confirmed practicing Catholics in good standing in the Catholic Church, and if not St. Aloysius Parishioners, must provide a letter of good standing from the parish where they are registered. CONFIRMATION Teens confirm the fall of their junior year of high school. Preparation is required, including PSR for teens not enrolled in a Catholic school. Adult confirmation is hosted annually for anyone over 18. Please contact the parish office for more detailed information. MARRIAGE Couples are asked to contact the priest at the beginning of the period of engagement at least six months prior to the projected date of the marriage. CARE OF THE SICK Communion is brought to the sick weekly and hospital visits made weekly. Families of the sick are encouraged to notify the parish office. ALOYSIUS CHURCH BEREAVEMENT MASS AND LUNCHEON All who have a deceased family member or loved one who was buried from St. Aloysius Parish since last All Saints Day are invited to Mass and Luncheon Sunday, November 6, :00 a.m. Mass During the Mass you will be given a Cross in memory of your loved one. After the Mass the Bereavement Committee will serve a Gumbo Luncheon in the Parish Hall. RCIA FOR CHILDREN RCIA for children is a ministry for those preparing for membership in the Catholic Church through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. This process is for children, ages seven (7) and over who have not been baptized Catholic, or have been baptized Catholic but did not receive their First Reconciliation and Eucharist in the second grade as well as for children who were baptized in another faith and wish to become Catholic. We will begin this process on Sunday, October 16, We will meet in the Parish Administration Office Atrium from 10:15am-11:15am. We are still in need of more catechists to help in the preparation of the children as well as in preparing the parents of the children. We will provide you with the training and the materials. Knights of Columbus Silver Rose Program Since 1960, the Knights of Columbus has conducted the Silver Rose program.

At locations along the route, a special prayer service is conducted to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas.

The rose s final destination is the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, December 12.

After the Silver Rose arrives, a Rosary prayer service will take place in the Church on Tuesday, October 25th at 5:30 p.m.

5 Knights of Columbus Silver Rose Program Since 1960, the Knights of Columbus has conducted the Silver Rose program. Sculpted silver roses are carried from Ontario, Canada, through several states to Monterrey, Mexico. At locations along the route, a special prayer service is conducted to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas. The rose is a symbol of the KC s commitment to the pro-life cause, and Our Lady of Guadalupe is claimed as the patroness of the pro-life movement.
