Monday Morning April 18, Focus on Outreach: Career Day in Review/Lunch with LATTC at Fremont H.S./DMA Applied Sciences Sign Graphics Reach Out Frank, Laurence B. Sent:Monday, April 18, :12 PM Good Monday to you, April 18, I had a chance to come to campus this past Thursday to offer the welcome at the annual Construction and Associated Careers Awareness Day. It was energizing to see the crowds of high school students from throughout Los Angeles learning about the opportunities here at Trade Tech and with all of our partners. It felt good to be back and to get a chance to say hi to a few of you. I plan on coming back on a part-time basis this week and see how things go. I still have the radiation treatments ahead of me but I plan to be around as energy allows. This past Wednesday, the University Transfer Day took place on campus with more than 20 colleges and universities coming to campus and visiting with our students interested in transferring to a university. Thanks to Transfer Center director David Esparza and his team for putting together a great opportunity for our students. I want to thank all of you who participated in the Career Day. I understand more departments and programs than ever handled presentations in their areas or under the tents. More than 1500 high school students had a chance to experience Trade Tech up close and learn about what we do. This is a very special day for us, and a big part of our outreach strategy. To see our elected, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and Councilman Curren
Price, invested in what we do, was very important. I want to thank our partner and hero, Pastor Stephan McGlover, for creating and implementing the largest single-day outreach event among LAUSD high schools. To our Facilities team, all of the programs that participated, Bridges, our pathway teams, those students who volunteered as tour guides and Communications Manager David Ysais for his leadership on this for the past six years, I offer personal thanks. (from left to right) Michael Dolphin, MC and recently retired Regional Director of the Employment Development Department, Pastor Stephan McGlover, the founder and organizer of this annual outreach event, L.A. Councilmember Curren Price, yours truly, and Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas
This Wednesday we are extending our personal outreach to one of our SLATE-Z and feeder high schools, Fremont High School. We are conducting an updated version of what we used to do just a few years ago with LATTC Days on high school campuses. This time Lunch with LATTC will take place at Fremont High School this Wednesday from 10:00am to 12:30pm on the Fremont campus, which is located at San Pedro and 77 th Street, about 20 minutes away from Trade Tech. We have asked several programs to send a representative to meet with the Fremont students. Please make your plans to join us that day. Contact Stella in Bridges at yeghnas@la c.edu to solidify your participation and to receive information about transportation and parking. Or call ext In addition, this Wednesday from 1-3pm our campus sheriff s department will be holding a Town Hall meeting to discuss campus security and emergency preparedness in Aspen Hall TE 101. This is a great opportunity for everyone on campus to learn about our current systems, how we constantly try to improve them and what strategies are being used to keep everyone safe on this campus. Sergeant Diane Dodd is presenting this forum and will offer her expertise on Trade Tech s efforts to keep everyone safe. This Friday we are conducting the Design & Media Arts Symposium where students and the public have the opportunity come and see that pathway up close. It will take place on Friday, April 22 nd from 9am to 4pm and will include guest speakers and a fashion show. So if you get a chance, stop by and take a look at the student projects in TE-101; see vendors in the North Tent and hear guest speakers and see the Fashion Show in the South Tent. 9:00 Symposium Begins 9:00-2:00 Visit Vendor Booths North Tent 9:00-2:00 Displays- Student Work Aspen Hall :00-1:00 Shirt Redesign Judging North Tent

Given the tight community surrounding sign painting, this was a chance for Trade Tech alumni and current students to talk about the business, possible opportunities and where the industry is trending. The featured artist was Nick Barber, one of the kings of splash window signs. He spoke with students and then joined them in creating a nice splash on the Fishbowl promoting the Gold Thimble. Check it out. Congrats to Doc and Carlos for putting it together.
This past weekend Professor Renee Madyun convened the first annual alumni gathering for the LATTC Chemical Technology and Process Technology Programs, drawing nearly 40 participants who graduated as far back as Several alumni stood up and shared stories about how their degree or certificate changed their life or career trajectory for the better. Renee noted that the LATTC Chemical Technology program is now the oldest program of its kind in the country.

Thank you for all of your well-wishes during this time. The Trade Tech family continues to engage our community, creating the opportunities needed to uplift so many. I am looking forward to slowly getting back into the campus routine. Keep working at making our college the very special place that it is. Best wishes to all. Laurence "Larry" Frank President L.A.
