2 BULLETin... CALIFORNIA STATE COLLEGE SAN BERNARDINO 1965 ifluilllh October 1,1976 BOOKSTORE SHOULD BE REALITY hjext SPRUNG A third new building should make its appearance on caucus next Spring. In addition to the Creative Arts and Student Union buildings now under construction, the Bookstore is scheduled to join their ranks. At its meeting last Wednesday, the Board of Trustees of the CSUC approved schematic plans for the College Bookstore. Work is now proceeding with working drawings. A tentative schedule now places the bid opening on the building in December, or earlier, according to Vice President J, K. Thomas. With six months allowed for construction,the Bookstore facility, a $163,000 project, should be ready for occtpancy next Spring or sooner. Financed with non- State funds obtained through the College Foundation, the 5,000 sq. ft. building will be located adjacent to the caaipus perimeter road, southeast of the Fine Arts Building. * * * COLUMBUS DAY HOLIDAY Columbus Day this year falls on Monday, TO BE TAKEN NOV. 26 October 11. Although a legal California holiday for State employees, the College will use that day as an in-lieu holiday. columbus'^ay Friday, November 26 will be taken in its place and used in conjunction with the Thanksgiving weekend to make a three-day holiday, thus permitting us to celebrate our Finding Father's and early Founding Fathers' achievements at the same time. COL^GE DRIVE OPENS College opened its 1976 Arrrowhead United Fund drive this week, headed by Dick Ackley, Academic Administration. Pledge cards will be distributed with the November 1 ^yroll warrants. They will provide various means for naking fair share contributions the easy way. HARRIS The Fall season of programs presented by the Music STRING QUARTET OPENS SEASON Department will open with a concert by the Leslie I. Harris String Quartet. The program will be presented In PS-10 on Sunday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m. The College's own Quartet-in-Residence will present works by Robert Schumann, Darius Milhaud and Ludwig van Beethoven. Named in honor of Leslie I. Harris who was on the advisory board of the College, the Arrowhead Allied Arts Council and Founding Advisor of the Civic Light (Continued on page$)

Newcomers wishing rides should * ft A HELP ON WRITING TERM PAPERS OFFERED The Learning Center and Library have joined together in a program to offer assistance with research and writing term papers. The non-credit class is open and free to all students and graduate students, viio are invited to attend all or one of the sessions. Taught by Dianna Pelletier (Learning Center) and John Tibbals and Linda Miller (Library), the first session starts Wednesday, October 6, 3 p.m. in LC-27. 5 Professional Activities Richard Ackley (Academic Admin,) was guest speaker at the 2nd Bomb Wing (Strategic Air Command), March Air Force Base discussing educational opportunities available to active dutyservicemen in the local area. Richard Bennecke (Activities) planned and participated in the Peter G. Wintz Workshop for Activities Professionals held in conjunction with Calif. College Personnel Assn., Commission IV Conference at U.Ci^.Berkeley, Sept Mr. Bennecke was also appointed a member of the CCPA - Commission IV: Students, Their Activities and Cornmunity, The appointment is for two years. Gloria Cowan (Psychology) spoke to the I.B.M. Secretarial. Seminar on "The Occupational evelopraent in Women" in Riverside, Sept. 27. Arlo Harris (Chemistry) conducted an all day in-service workshop sponsored by the Hi Desert Mental Health Dept. Aug. 7 in Barstow. Subjects covered in the seminar, both morning and afternoon sessions, included aicohol, tob^co,tidi<tdrug abuse... Helene Koon (English) spoke at St. Mary's College, London U, Twickenham, England on "l^h Century Theater," July 27. Nikolai Khokhlov (Psychology) was interviewed 1:^ the Canadian Broadcast Corp. on Sept. 24, regarding his research on humor. The interview was heard on the same day on the radio show "As It Happens." Nathan Kravetz. Ernest Garcia. Judith Rymer (Education) and Sue Teele (Cont. Ed.) met with superintendents of schools of Riverside County to discuss undergraduate and graduate programs in teacher education at CSCSB, Sept. 23, at Moreno Valley Unified School District. Michael Maskin (Psychology) spoke at Riverside Poly High School on "Humanistic Psychology: Rediscovering the Person" on Sept. 29. James Urata (Building Coord.) spoke to the Rotary Club in the Inland Center on "American Concentration Camps," Sept. 29. * * * PUBLICATIONS Marty Bloomberg (Library) has a book. Introduction to Classification and Number Building in Dewey, published this month by Libraries Unlimited, Littleton, Colorado. Two earlier works have been revised and are due out Dec and Jan respectively, also by Libraries Unlimited: Introduction to Technical Services for Librai*y Technicians (3rd ed.) and Introduction to Public Services for Library Technicians (2nd ed.).
