Camp Steering Committee Meeting - 4 th Wednesday of each month at Ukiah 4-H Office 6:30 p.m. SELL!! SELL!! SELL!! 4-H receives 100% of the proceeds from the tickets we pre-sell. It is very important to try and sell tickets in advance and not have people buy them when they get to the event!! Tickets will be distributed to your club this month by Teen Leaders. There will be a prize of $100 for the Club with the highest ticket sales. This prize can be used towards 4-H Summer Camp, other 4-H activities, or in the 4-H Catalog. Money must be turned in by the May 29 th to qualify for this prize. Alexander Memorial Scholarship ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS AND RECENT GRADUATES: If you are graduating or have recently graduated and plan to attend college, you may be eligible for the Alexander Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is $500 and a plaque is awarded annually to a very deserving Lake County youth involved with 4-H and/or FFA. There are also $ for alternates/honorable mentions. 2 Higher Education Scholarships Deadline: 11:59 p.m. - June 1, 2015 The California 4-H Youth Development Program, with help from donors, offers statewide scholarships to graduating high school seniors and current college students to cover educational expenses such as tuition, books, room and board. Applicants may apply for multiple scholarships but are only eligible to receive one scholarship per year. Previous scholarship recipients may reapply. For scholarship categories and application details, please visit: 4-H State Leadership Conference July 23-26, 2015 University of California, Irvine Ages Open Recruitment: Statewide 4-H Advisory Committees Recruitment is open for the Statewide 4-H Advisory Committees. These advisory committees offer insight, review, and input for the operation and management of the statewide 4-H Youth Development Program, and are comprised of 4-H youth members, volunteers, and staff. This includes the 4-H State Shooting Sports Advisory Committee. 3 4-H FLING & EXPO 4-Her s Learn by Doing By All Star Candidate Ethan Jones (age 16) On Saturday, March 21 st 4-Hers from all around the county, some 60 participants and coordinators, were welcomed to the 6 th annual 4-H Fling and Expo at the Presbyterian Church in Kelseyville. Hands on activities ranged from creating bird treats from bread, peanut butter, and bird seed, to a quiz on how well you know wildflowers, to creating homemade cards wishing those in nursing homes around the county a happy spring. Other activities included viewing glowing germs, experimenting with stomp rockets, and judging cookies and cobblers. A passport was handed out at the door, and visiting at least seven of these stations, getting a stamp at each one, would result in a door prize at the end. Other awards were handed out for competitions such as a leprechaun trap, a themed table setting, decorated cupcakes, all sort of sewn articles, and even a smoothie blend off. 7 Dear 4-H Community, What does member in good standing mean for you as a 4-H member? What about project completion? These and other terms are common in 4-H but there are different requirements across clubs and counties. To help make the 4-H experience fair for every member regardless of which club or county they participate in, the 4-H Policy Advisory Committee which includes 4-H members, adult volunteers, and 4-H YDP staff underwent the task of not only defining these terms but also documenting the Steps to Success in 4-H. This document outlines: What member in good standing means, What is required for project completion, How members earn a year stripe and pin, Club participation standards, Requirements to exhibit at fair, Participation in 4-H events, And, ways to earn recognition in 4-H. As a statewide program delivered locally, we set out to standardize some key aspects of the program while allowing some flexibility at the local level. For example, six hours of project instruction is required but project leaders may require more based on the project and goals. Please review this document for more information so you know the steps to your success in 4-H. The new Steps to Success in 4-H and associated policy changes are effective July 1.
