3 MEET OUR SPEAKERS TRANSITION TO HIGH PERFORMANCE: ARCHITECTURAL PRECAST BENCHMARKS, BEST PRACTICES & ACTIONS By Mike Strain President MJS Management Services This two-part presentation will summarize precast industry benchmarks for two important metrics: revenue growth and profitability. Architectural precast producer performance will be outlined and contrasted against the results of closely related concrete industry sectors. In the second part of the discussion, participants will be lead through an analysis of current industry challenges and root causes related to market share growth, profitability, fairness in precaster and general contractor risk sharing, cost structure, innovation and people capability. The speaker will then outline a series of recommendations and action items to transition to higher levels of performance. The outcomes: Understand current precast industry top performer benchmarks & best practices Evaluate gaps between your company s capability & industry best-in-class levels Identify improvement opportunities & specific action items to close gaps and improve results in profitability, market share, sales, operations, organization capability & other key business functions About Mike Strain Mike Strain is president MJS Management Services, a consulting firm that specializes in assisting precast producers with the transition to improved business performance and profits. Over the last 14 years MJS Management Services has provided management consulting assistance to more than 150 precast plants, including all of the largest multi-plant producers and many mid-sized and small precasters. Through this work they have developed deep insights into the varied management practices utilized by precasters and identified the characteristics that separate top-quartile performers from the rest. They are source for in-depth industry analysis, best practices and trends. Mike has helped numerous precast management teams to assess and improve strategic plans, market position, organization capability, sales programs, competitiveness and productivity. Additionally, he works with general contractors, engineering consultants and suppliers. Through this wide industry exposure, he has developed a deep understanding of precast industry business best practices. About David Dave E. North, CPA, ChFC, CLU Dave North is a principal and serves as the leader of CliftonLarsonAllen s Federal Tax Consulting Practice. With more than 29 years of experience, Dave has an extensive background with a specific emphasis on Cost Segregation Studies, Fixed Asset Depreciation Studies, Embedded Cost Reviews, and Research and Development Tax Credits. He also has extensive experience in various industries including engineering, real estate (including real estate investment trusts), manufacturing, pharmaceutical, agricultural, banking, aerospace and defense, and retail. Prior to joining CliftonLarsonAllen, Dave spent nine years at PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP, where he was responsible for the development of the Fixed Asset Solution Practice and the Research and Development Tax Credit Study Practice. During his tenure at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Dave successfully defended a multitude of studies before the Internal Revenue Service where, in each case, 95% or more of the original client benefit was retained. About Virginia Ginny J. Veit, CPA Based in Tampa, Ginny Veit is a manager in the Federal Tax Solutions Group. She specializes in the research & development tax credit, cost segregation projects, and other specialty tax services. Ginny has over 18 years of experience in taxation. In addition to her experience in public accounting, she spent 11 years working for a large defense contractor in the military simulation market. Page 3

4 APA CHARITY / GOLF INFORMATION JOHN BRADLEY THOMPSON THE CURE STARTS NOW In June of 2013, the Jesse Thompson family was delivered the devastating news that their son, John Bradley had a Diffused Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an inoperable brain tumor that affects less than 300 kids per year and yields just a 2% survival rate. John, his family and his community banded together for ten months, but sadly, John lost his battle in April Many believe that DIPG holds the secret to curing most, if not all, forms of cancer. The Cure Starts Now Cancer Foundation is one of the only cancer foundations dedicated to finding a homerun cure. However, this particular form of Pediatric Brain Cancer research receives little to no federal funding since there are so few kids diagnosed on a yearly basis (approximately 300). No parent should ever be delivered this devastating news. The money raised through The Cure Starts Now is used in the best possible manner, minimizing wasted spending and fighting cancer on knowledge and research, not just the numbers. Because of this experience, the Thompson family is heavily involved with the foundation and APA would like to show their support as well. 5 PLANT TOUR / TOM CORY SCHOLARSHIP PLANT TOUR FORT WALTON MACHINING Monday, October 9 ~ 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Join us on Monday morning for this exciting plant tour of the Fort Walton Machining and get an inside peek of their CNC Lathes, CNC Milling machines, Electrical Discharge machining as well as gaining insights from their Engineering, Fabrication and Finishing teams. Fort Walton Machining is a recognized leader in the manufacturing and assembly of custom designed and precision machined parts. It has provided supplies for the United Space Alliance Space Shuttle Program and NASA Human Spaceflight Program. (Transportation on your own. APA will provide detailed information to those who register.) TOM CORY SCHOLARSHIP DONATION Tom Cory was a founding member of the APA and in his honor, the APA developed the Tom Cory Scholarship. This $2,000 scholarship provides one student each year the opportunity to have a portion of their college tuition paid for by the APA. Thomas Pulliam from the University of Missouri in Kansas City is the 2017 recipient. Help the APA provide more scholarships by adding your donation on the registration form on page 7. Page 5
