2 November 4, 1994 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 11 OF THE WEEK AHEAD AT EIU 11 NOVEMBER 7 The University Board Lectures Committee presents Beatrice Kerr, HIV/AIDS educator and advocate, speaking on "Living with AIDS." The lecture will begin at 8 p.m. in the University Union Grand Ballroom. Cost is $1 for students and $3 for the general public. For more information, call University Board at Graduate School Information Day. Eastern Illinois University's Career Planning and Placement Center will be hosting a Graduate School lnfor-. mation Day, with 16 participating colleges and university's from six states. "The Helpful Princess: Her Dilemma in Greek Myth and Modern Life" will be the topic of Eastern's annual Phi Beta Kappa Association Lecture presented by Judith De Luce, professor of Classics at Miami University of Ohio at 7:30 p.m. in Lumpkin Hall, Roberson Auditorium, Room 122. The lecture is free and open to the pubic. For more information, call Frank McCormick at Quality and Learning Videoconference. "Langford: Quality and Learning--The Next Step," a videoconference broadcast covering the challenge of eliminating traditional grading methods in favor of systems for monitoring quality learning will take place from 11 :30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in

Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to assess the effectiveness of learning, set standards for quality, monitor performance and manage on-going improvement. It is sponsored by the Lumpkin College of Business and Applied Sciences' Academic Assessment Committee and the Office of Faculty Development. For more information, call the Lumpkin College of Business and Applied Sciences at Panther Power Day. All EIU students and staff are invited to show their school spirit by wearing their favorite EIU attire for the return of "Panther Power Day" during the second open house day for prospective students and their families. Highlights of the open house include information sessions with faculty representatives from 9 a.m. to noon in the University Union Grand Ballroom. Campus tours will be given from 9 a.m. to noon and will depart from the Union Grand Ballroom. For more information, call Eastern's Admissions Office at or University Club Murder Mysteries. "Murder at the Hop," a unique theatre experience that encourages full audience participation, will take place in the University Union Rathskeller from 7 to 10 p.m. Cost is $7.50

"The Collegians" will perform Broadway, Pop and 60's Nostalgia at 7:30p.m. in the Dvorak Concert Hall of the Dounda Fine Arts Center. Admission is $ 1 for students, $2 for seniors and $3 for adults. It is sponsored by Eastern's Music Department. For more information, call Robert Hills at Concert Performer. lain Matthews, singer/songwriter and former member of the British folk group "Fairport Convention," will perform in the University Union Rathskeller. Performance begins at 9 p.m. Admission is $1 for students and $3 for the general public. For more information, call Jennifer Taylor at Tarble Chamber Music Series. The chamber series' second performance this year will feature University of Illinois professor Ray Sasaki, trumpet; with Jeanne Dayton Sasaki, piano; and the String Society Artists Quartet composed of Barbara Smith Hedlund, cello; Dorothy Martirano, violin; Philip Schalow, violin; and Anne Mischakoff Heiles, viola. The public is invited to the concert at 3 p.m. at the Tarble Arts Center.
