The Alumni Association has planned a funfilled weekend for members and guests September 22 & 23 to the Cincinnati Bengals vs. Houston Oilers. The package includes: Motor Coach transportation from Wright State campus at approximately 9:00 A.M. Saturday, Sept. 22. Arrive in Cincinnati, check in at the Terrace Hilton Hotel and rest, shop, see a movie or take an optional free tour of the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History. Reconvene at the hotel for a hospitality suite beginning at 4:00 P.M., then travel over to a cocktail hour at the Playboy Club before dinner, dancing and entertainment. Next day enjoy the Bengals vs. Oilers game during the afternoon from some specially chosen box seats. Complete package costs less than $ For more information call The Second Annual Wright State Distance Race, a ten-mile race to benefit the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, will be held Sunday, September 30. Official starting on the two laps around the campus will be at 2:00 P.M. The race is open to all runners, with competitive classes formed based on sex and age groups. Awards will be given to the first three finishers over-all and first three over-all in each class. The pre-registration fee is $5.00 on or before September 21st, going up to $6.00 if you wait until the 22nd through the 30th. A free set of running shorts is being given to the first 300 entrants. Last year more than 300 people competed in the race and it earned close to $ for our Alumni Scholarship Fund. This year's goal, according to Chairman, Jim Brinkman, is to double both those numbers. Spectators as well as runners are encouraged!

The Travel Committee is recommending to the Board the following suggested trips in The Committee is still working on these trips and would appreciate your input. Ski Trip to Austria March 15-23, 1980 New York April 11-13, 1980 Reds Weekend Early Summer, 1980 Est.$ Est.$ Est.$ A FEW THOUGHTS FROM JERRY SUTTON Just what is the Wright State University Alumni Association? Is it just a loosely-knit organization the fabric of which only emerges during the Annual Dinner Dance and to solicit funds? The fact is the Association is a nonprofit corporation under the Ohio Revised Code. As such it is a corporation which is not formed for the pecuniary gain or profit of, and whose net earnings are not distributable to, its members, officers or other private persons. Does this mean that the Association cannot take money? No, only that any net income must be applied to the public good. Since these funds are for the public good the Internal Revenue Code exempts them from taxation and contributions are deductible on an individual's itemized return. As a corporate entity the Association acts through its Board of Directors. The twelve members of the Board of Directors act jointly to conduct the business of the Association and they are accountable for their actions to you, the members of the Association. If you are interested in the business of the Association I would suggest that you attend one of the bi-monthly regular meetings of the Board. IMPORTANT NOTICES The next meeting of the Wright State University Alumni Board of Directors is Saturday, September 15 at 9:30 A.M. in 155B of the University Center. This is an important planning meeting for You are encouraged to come and observe the proceedings. If there is a matter that you wish to bring before the Board, you must call either the President, Jim Mack ( ), or Director, Pat Moran ( ) and get on the agenda. Elections will soon be held to replace some of the present Board members. Nomination forms are in the mailing process. If you want to get into the Association at a decision-making level, this is the way to do it.

From a ledger-keeping standpoint, and in the eyes of those of us who help raise funds in other ways, it was an over-all success, and we thank them! Bob and Jerry and their committee are not as pleased with the results and are constantly working for new ways to make money for the Association. Any ideas? Any volunteers? ARTIST SERIES SPECIAL FoR ALUMNI The WSU Artist Series is sponsoring "Windom Plays Thurber" a delightful production about the wit and wisdom of the author and his captivating stories. The performance is October 12 at 8:00 P.M. It's free for Alumni Association members and their guests. Advance reservations are necessary as a limited number of tickets are available. If you are interested in a postperformance get-together with Mr. Windom, a brief reception will be held. Please call Pat Moran this week at if you are interested. About twenty alumni cast off at the Sailing Clinic held in July. From the two-person sunfish to the sixperson 21' sloop, the day was a breeze. Organized by sailing enthusiasts, Chuck and Kathy Haught, the clinic was just one of many social-athletic events the Athletic Committee sponsors. Advance notification to alumni has been a problem, but we're working on getting out flyers, letters and cards faster! If you are interested in this type of event call A repeat of this event is scheduled for Sunday, September 9th from 10:00 A.M. on at Eastwood Lake, and the cost is only $5.00 per couple. So come out and join us! ARE You INTERESTED IN GROUP INSURANCE? If you are, and you think the Alumni Association should be, please call Pat Moran at A round table discussion will be set up to discuss the pros and cons of the Association getting involved in a group insurance program and there are many questions to be answered. The contract would be competitively bid. There are some "level of participation" requirements. We need your input!
