Thank you, also, to the Edmonds Lions who dedicate one Saturday a month during the spring and summer to keeping the park in tip-top shape. Ed Soper, Sierra Park Path for the Blind chair, always seems to wear a smile when he volunteers at the park.
4 Food Bank Raffle Raises Over $1800 in September Sales Continue Throughout October The Edmonds Lions Club continued its annual Food Bank Raffle fundraiser with September donations of over $1000 at the Car Show, $313 from the Art Walk, and $ from IGA. That makes a total of a little over $3700 to date. Many thanks to Lions Judy Baker, Deanne Bilsborough, Charles Brady, Elmer Brunk, Brian Evans, Jim Forgey, Judy Forgey, Bobby Mills, Claudia Mills, Bob Moir, Carol Robinson, and Vern Woods for their participation. And they aren't through yet! The Club will wind down its annual Food Bank fundraiser on Saturday, October 8th, at IGA, and on Saturday, October 15th, at the Ferry Terminal. Winners of the drawing, to take place in November, will win one of 39 prizes donated by local merchants. One hundred percent of funds donated will be given to the Food Bank. Food Bank Raffle co-chairmen Jim Forgey and Vern Woods really appreciate all the help we have received from the Lions during this annual fund raising event. 6 Why?... Because Borrowed from September 2016 Busy B WHY? Why do men s clothes have buttons on the right while women s clothes have buttons on the left? Drawing from the United States Department of Defense. Columbus Day, a national holiday in many colonies in the Americas, officially celebrates the arrival of Christopher Columbus in and European discovery of the American continent on October 12, It became a federal holiday in the United States in 1937, but people have celebrated Columbus voyage since the Colonial period. BECAUSE: When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich. Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid s right! And that s where women s buttons have remained since. WHY do ships and aircraft use mayday as their call for help? BECAUSE: This comes from the French word m aidez meaning help me and is pronounced, phonetically, mayday Flag Days January 18.Martin Luther King Day February 15. Presidents Day May 30.
